No it won't count...he needs to have been at the club to qualify as club trained, or in the country to count as homegrown....being in Spain negates it completely.

don't know if anyone saw courtois' latest quotes on twitter (@chelseatransfergossips). but surely based on those comments, he's Chelsea bound next season. seems as though he's been assured a starting role here next season. Cech is a great person but we are beginning to see it that he isn't at the same level as we knew he was. courtois could just be okay.

That's how I used to understand it but when you read the attached it details how a player qualifies to be counted as home grown. The when you read down through the document you will see the likes of Lukaka and indeed Courtois were registered as under 21 year olds in our squads

That's because they were under 21....

Only players over that age bracket need to be registered. So Courtois will need to be registered now, and he won't qualify as home grown because he's spent no time in England. Lukaku who we bought at 18, has spent 3 years in England, so I think he will count as home grown (but not club).

That's my understanding, but I suppose I could be wrong.

Yep again as I understood in the past but

1) When a player goes on loan his contract is still registered with his parent club at the home association. Is it the registered contract they refer to when they talk about being registered as opposed to a competion registration?

2) The qualification rules in the CL & EPL are broadly the same however in the CL there is an additional requirement. On top of the home grown thing a number of players that qualify as such have must have been at the club for 36 months continuous( not on loan) between the ages of 15 & 21. Neither Courtois or Lukaka qualify by virtue of being out on loan. Nor incidentally did Ryan Bertrand. Ake on the other hand will.

3) Why would you list players under 21 players who are out on loan and clearly cant play for you on a list of players unless they are still registered for you? Why even waste the ink unless there is a reason or benefit in so doing?

Straw clutching maybe but I genuinely cant get my head round this home grown player thing. I thought I understood it but keep coming back to the question why list under 21 players? It clearly states that you list on the document those under 21 year olds registered at theclub

Looking at the FAs own rules it sort of leads me to believe a player out on loan is still counted as registered with his parent club and by virtue of that the home association.Indeed I know for a fact that loan players remain on the payroll of the parent club throughout the period of their loan.

I'd be very surprised if that's how it works, seeing as though he hasn't been at the club at all...but I guess we'll have to see.

Really hope we make him sign a new contract BEFORE we replace Cech with him.

The absolute worst case scenario is that we ditch Cech for him, then he ditches us for Real Madrid when his contract expires in 2016.

Thibaut Courtois has revealed his future was clear until he faced parent club Chelsea in the Champions League semi-final.

The Belgian shot-stopper has been a Chelsea player since the summer of 2011 but has yet to play for the club, instead spending three seasons on loan with La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid.

Having developed into one of the finest goalkeepers in the world during that time, Jose Mourinho is under pressure to make a decision on his future. He can either send him out on loan again and keep Petr Cech as his first choice or bring Courtois back to Stamford Bridge and sacrifice Cech.

It is still unclear where Courtois will be next season but, according to the player, that is down to the fact he played against the Blues in the Champions League final.

Speaking to La Dernière Heure, the 22-year-old revealed: "My future seemed clear. But then, we clashed in the Champions League and it changed everything."

Courtois was allowed to play against his parent club in the Champions League semi-final, which Atletico went on to win.

The goalkeeper has just two years to run on his current Chelsea contract and could put the Blues under pressure if he allows it to run into it's final 12 months.

He has been linked with a move to both Barcelona and Chelsea this season as well as being linked with a permanent switch to Atletico with Diego Costa moving to Chelsea in exchange.

Another source has him saying..

"And yes, Mourinho called me before the [final League] game against Barcelona.

What we talked about stays between us. I have a two-year contract with Chelsea, so in principle I will be there for training, then we’ll talk.

This isn’t the time to think about a transfer. There’s a World Cup at stake.”

That last bit sounds worrying. :(

Atletico have just signed a new keeper, Moya from Getafe.

Courtois's replacement then?

That is interesting.

Who is Ateltico's number 2 goalkeeper, any idea if he is still there?

some bum who hardly ever plays

Just wondered if he was still under contract or had maybe left on a free... It's hard to know how much to read into this Moya signing.

Apparently he suffered a pretty bad knee injury this season so would sound a bit of a gamble for a replacement first choice.

Don't they still have Sergio Asenjo as well? I know they loaned him out this season but I don't know whether they're bringing him back or not. I seem to remember him being fairly decent, although obviously not a patch on Courtois.

Edit: also I heard they were linked with Keylor Navas? I assume that is no longer happening if they're getting Moya.

I cant believe my eyes, I went from reading rumours Cech is being transfer listed , thought I'd jump on the Shed End forum to see fans outraged and find there's a poll with majority of fans preferring Courtois and casually dismissing Cech.

Cech is a far more professional keeper. He's easily got a gd couple of years left at the top level. This is literally upsetting me from loosing Mata to Super Frank, Ashley Cole? and possibly Cech. Good professional, experienced role models who cared about the club. I cant say the same for some of our other first team players.

Cech has about 3 more years at the top (if that) and Courtois could have about 13 years and with them both currently being around the same ability I think it's a no brainer that Courtois is our number one next season. If we sold Courtois now and kept Cech, in 2 or 3 years we will be looking for another goalkeeper while Courtois will be the best goalie in the world elsewhere. It's sad that our old guard are going but we have to move on.

Absolutely agree!

Cech is nowhere near appreciated enough on here at times. Shocking!

I've been in the Courtois camp for a long time, but I'm starting to sway back to Cech again. At least for the coming season. I don't think I could cope with losing Lampard, Cole and Cech all in one summer.

From the Express:

Chelsea ready to SELL Petr Cech as they look to welcome Thibaut Courtois back

CHELSEA boss Jose Mourinho will make Blues legend Petr Cech available for transfer in a bid to tempt Atletico Madrid loan star Thibaut Courtois back to Stamford Bridge.

Cech, 32, has been a key player since joining Chelsea from Rennes in 2004, making 479 appearances for the west London outfit, and is a target for oil-rich Ligue 1 champions Paris St-Germain.

However, his time at the Bridge could be up as Mourinho looks to work Courtois into his first-team plans, and with the 22-year-old Belgian demanding nothing less than regular action, reports claim Cech is ready to be sacrificed as the Special One ushers in a new era.

Chelsea have already seen Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole and Samuel Eto'o depart on free transfers, and Mourinho has no intention of easing up on his ruthless decision-making as he looks to challenge Manchester City for their Premier League title.

The Blues are set to make a number of big-name signings this summer, including Barcelona's Cesc Fabregas and Atletico pair Diego Costa and Filipe Luis, but Diego Simeone is keen to keep hold of Courtois after a move for Estudiantes keeper Geronimo Rulli fell through.

Courtois himself has openly expressed a desire to stay with the La Liga outfit, but Mourinho is willing to prove how much he wants the shotstopper by sanctioning Cech's departure to the French giants, who have also recently tied up a £40million move for David Luiz.

Personally I think Cech's injury is going to have a big say in whether Courtois comes back next season, I'm not sure Mourinho would want to go into the new season with his #1 injured and may make Courtois first choice if Cech isn't fit.

Ironically that's how Cech got his chance when Cudicini was injured at the start of the season that Cech signed.
