"Mourinho wants Courtois for No 1 - Duncan Castles and Paul Rowan

JOSE MOURINHO wants to make Thibaut Courtois his starting goalkeeper at Chelsea next season. The decision to bring the Belgium international back from a three-year loan spell at Atletico Madrid where he helped to eliminate his parent club from the Champions League last week would effectively end Petr Cechs decade-long run as Chelsea number one.

Mourinho is also considering cashing in on Oscar, the Brazil playmaker, who he implied has conserved for the World Cup energy that should have been directed to Chelseas cause. The managers willingness to sacrifice two key players forms part of a plan to create a squad with greater potential to win major silverware.

Chelseas commitment to meeting Uefas Financial Fair Play regulations means that Mourinho must raise much of the revenue and create room on the wage bill for new signings by moving valuable players out. With at least one striker he remains confident of securing Atletico striker Diego Costa a central defender and a left-back on his recruitment list, the Chelsea manager is prepared to make tough choices in his restructuring.

With just two seasons remaining on the contract Chelsea tied Courtois to when acquiring him in 2011, Mourinho believes that the 21-year-old will be lost to the London club if he is not brought back to the Premier League club this summer. Courtois long-term value is higher than that of Cech and his salary lower than the 31-year-old, who would also command a significant transfer fee.

Mourinho, who last week criticised Courtois fellow Belgium international Eden Hazard as "not the kind of player to sacrifice himself for the team", has also had strong words for Oscar. "From August to November or December, he was fantastic," Mourinho said. "After that, he was going down. Some of [the causes] are from the personal side of the man, not the player. He arrived in the crucial moment of the season in a down. Injuries, couldnt train, was trying to make the game but didnt . . . I can imagine, in a couple of weeks, he will be in a high and during the World Cup he will be in a high. There are things you cant resolve."

He chose to highlight the importance of two other midfielders to the clubs future success. " If next season we have, for example, a number nine who we decide deserves to be first-choice", he said, "plus the stability that [Nemanja] Matic can give by being always available and by Ramires not picking up suspensions, then hopefully we can have more stability.""

If we did sell Oscar which I find very doubtful, it would just show that Jose was wrong in selling Mata and instilling all his faith in Oscar as the #10.

can't see Oscar going anywhere. Courtois being number one would be great for our future, but it would be such a shame to see big Pete leave. a true club legend, perfect professional and despite what some say he is still one of the best keepers in the world. i disagree with many who say he was never the same after his injury, just watch how he won us the champs league in 2012.

Cech should stay Chelsea. .coach courtois to become better goal keeper ...He has been great asset

Why would Cech do that if indeed Courtois would come back? Cech has enough to offer a top club, and he will want to play, not to coach.

To be blunt Cech cannot coach Courtios anything he doesn't know already. In fact as much as I love Big Pete and respect all he has done for Chelsea he has NEVER performed to the consistent standards Courtios has since he turned Genk's season around by himself.

:face_palm:

Ignoring the first part, no one is going to believe that you watched Genk week in week out.

We can't afford to lose such a talented player like Courtois, he can be our goalie for at least 12 years. You have to take some tough decisions and sentimentality has no place in football, you have to do whats better for the team. I love Cech with all my heart but we can't let Courtois go as if we do we will have to start looking for a new goalie 3-4 years, its very unlikely that goalies of similar standard to Courtois will be available for a reasonable price.

This article is surely rendered clueless from the point we are after another central defender!

Terry

Cahill

Luiz

Ivanovic

Kalas

Zouma

Ake

Christiansen

Omerou

Chalobah

Best defence in the league, hardly lacking quality, depth, or potential.

Stim I took a break from work and toured Europe around the time Courtios first broke into the Genk side. Living in hostels I came across many football fans in Europe and settled in Brussels for six months. I saw a lot of his early games and the reason I am so behind him is the fact Genk fans to this day count him as a legend, a player who by himself kept clean sheets to win their first title for years. I was delighted when we signed him and thought he was good enough to start for us and not Athletico. I must admit I have not seen him so much at Athletico but follow him on u tube. The facts are, Genk have been nowhere since he left and Athletico stand on the verge of something thought impossible and MOM performances continue to consistently outshine outfield players which is unprecedented for a goalkeeper. He is without question a match winner between the sticks and I am a million per cent certain it will allow us to be more adventurios next season. Courtios, Cahill, Matic and Costa will be the best spine in Europe let alone the Premiership.

Swap Cech for Costa maybe?

That would work for me. Never easy to see Petr leave but he's won everything for us. And he'd move to a great team. I dont see this deal happening but it would make sense...

Did you see our champions league run in 2012? Or our back to back league titles in mourinho's first spell. If there's anything cech has been it's consistent. He's waned a little in recent years in my opinion, but he's still one of the top 5 goalkeepers in football.

anyone notice big pete clean sheet levelled by szczesny? let's hope arse concede at last match so our big pete can get his golden glove. golden glove isn't for one who concede 5 or 6 in a single match.
