You really can't see how this is a debate ?

 

We are talking about Petr Cech here, not some small time goalkeeper. Cech is still one of the best ( if not the best ) goalkeepers in the world, who very VERY rarely let's us down. This man has won us games and still wins us games to this day. He is very consistent for us and you can see that he has control of the penalty area and great communication with the defense. It's not exactly like he is getting worse either.

 

If Courtois wasn't so good himself, then there would be no debate on who should be number 1 goalkeeper.

Was this really in doubt? Of course he was going to stay and fight for his place.

....but from anyone reliable?  I mean Cech has said he's not going anywhere and Jose's said the same - it'll take someone impressive on Twitter to trump that!

^ I suspect one will be off. I'd prefer it to be Courtois personally. But there's no sense in having two #1 keepers, and also keeping on Schwarzer as a #3. That's three overseas berths occupied when they could be used by players who will actually play. Amazing how we're loaded with good keepers but have only one top striker.

Courtios has 2 years left on his deal right? If that is so, it is the same situation as Lukaku for me. As I said with him, sign a new deal or we should sell to avoid losing out on a decent transfer fee.

I like Courtois -- but it just feels wrong thinking about Chech in anyone else's kit.

Not even close. We could sell Lukaku because we bought a top striker. Top strikers can be bought every year almost. A top goalkeeper is very very hard to come by. We just can't sell Courtois and stick with Cech. Cech isn't getting any younger. Once Cech is gone or even more likely, hurt, then what? Courtois is the guy now. He will a top keeper for the next 15 years. The decision is an easy one to me.

Is an easy decision to make, if he signs a new deal. Or he can just go to wherever he pleases in 2 years on a free. We do not badly need him for the next 2 years, we need him for the next 12 or more to be the World Class GK that takes Cech's place as Cech did to Carlo 10 years ago.

Why would we sell Cech just to bring in another keeper?

That's utter rubbish

Cole, Lampard and Cech all gone in one summer would be too much to take.

Perhaps Diego Lopez would be content to play 2nd fiddle to Courtois IF Cech is on his way?

But the whole reason we would off load Cech or Courtois would be to release a foreign player as we currently have too many, we're not going to then sign another foreign goalkeeper.

Courtois is getting a lot of coverage from the club on social media and the club TV channel, I cant see him not being here when the new season starts.

It hurts to say it, but football is a very performance driven business, and if Courtois is likely to be one of the best goalkeepers for the next 10-15 years then we have to hold on to him and integrate him quickly.

 

Cech is a legend though, and his penalty saves on that night in Munich are forever.
