Oscar - Little Diamond

Featured Replies

I think Coutinho is actually very similar to Oscar. He has a few good games, and then goes missing for a bunch of games. I think Coutinho is quite overrated.

Agreed he is a bit overrated but he is more creative and skilful than Oscar.

I thought Oscar was good as well. He lost the ball often cause he was being very direct, didn't quite work as well today but he still managed to get himself into dangerous positions and create problems.

Pedro, imo, was far worse. Starting to get worried that we've signed yet another dud winger.

Really? Couldn't disagree more to be honest.

I thought Pedro was good on and off the ball.

His work rate when we lose possession is more "willian" than "hazard" and he is up and down that wing at pace all game, something perhaps you only appreciate if you watch the game at the stadium as opposed to watching on TV.

His delivery into the box is also quality more often than not; could and should have had an assist yesterday after that crisp cross into the box which unfortunately Costa was unable to convert.

I also like the fact he has a good shot on him and isn't afraid to unleash it- something I think we have really suffered from since Lampard left- far too often we seem to try and pass it into the net Arsenal style these days.

I think has he come into the team last year we would be talking about many more assists and be pleased with the addition of him to our squad however this year we are a mess and its going to be hard to any player to really shine, especially one in their first season in the Premiership.

I would not agree he was worse than Oscar though who, once again, just didn't do enough and, ultimately, cost us the 3 points as unfortunate as it was.

When I first started posting here I got slaughtered for saying Oscar isn't good enough. Oh how times have changed.

Good player on his day, but it's a shame it's almost never his day.

He was great defensively but non existent going forward and I think that's why he was taken off.

Don't get me wrong I like him as a player and was one of the ones who wanted us to sign him because of the qualites you just mentioned. I'm probably being a bit harsh given the circumstances but I would still expect a player of his quality and experience to be performing well. Not outstanding but to perform better than he has so far.

So sick of this moron, can't wait to finally see the back of him which will be soon I hope.

I understand that he was dire yesterday, but why is he a moron please? Because he slipped taking the penalty? I hate that hesitation he does with his penalties as much as the next person, but 'moron' and a few other words that have been bandied about are a little extreme.

Coutinho's impact on games can fairly be described as ephemeral. And he contributes about 1% of what Oscar does off the ball.

Coutinho's impact comes in brief yet spectacular moments before he goes back to contributing nothing. He's the ultimate Match of the Day player*, whereas Oscar, while not always the most penetrative of players on the ball always contributes something positive to the team, at the very least his excellent ability and commitment to press.

I suppose it makes sense that someone who is dismissing Oscar's abilities and performance yesterday based solely on a missed penalty (which was due to a slip no less) would rate Coutinho. I hope those who are of that persuasion are giving Matic the same level of vitriol for being equally responsible for us dropping points yesterday - certainly Matic is far more deserving of being called a 'moron' for his bad moment.

*I can't help but feel I stole that line from somewhere but for the life of me I can't remember where.

I would argue he contributed more going forward than Oscar, albeit a "distinction with a difference" in the sense that neither scored or created a goal.

I would agree we should be demanding more but it's been a disaster of a season and it's all relative. Bar Willian, none of the attacking players have delivered and this is epitomised by the fact Eden Hazard hasn't scored a goal yet and we are half way through the season.

I maintain that had he been introduced to a team that was clicking he would have proved his worth with more in the way of statistics; as with Willian in previous seasons his overall game is such that if he were to ad more goals/assists he would be a complete player at both end of the pitch. There is still a clear gulf in what he contributes going forward than the likes of Cuadrado and Salah etc.

I don't believe his inclusion in the starting 11 is not one that needs to be urgently addressed however I am not convinced the same can be said of Oscar in the number 10 role.

so frustrating because when he's on fire he's absolutely brilliant. he is just way too inconsistent at the moment. i want him to improve, but if he keeps us these kind of performances we'll be forced to sell him.

Really I've never seen it. Even when he plays at his best he still just looks like a good player nothing more nothing less.

What was he meant to do? The entire team was struggling going forward and when he was on the ball there were no options in forward positions. A really odd game to judge an attacking player on given how we set up.

Well I would expect a so-called international to be able to pass to a teammate standing just a few yards away...he either missed the target or fell to the floor moaning he was fouled

Footballers do lose the ball sometimes. Especially when there are very few options to pass to.

I know I won't convince you to change your mind about him but I do think it's massively unfair to have a go at him given the type of match it was.

Think he's finished as a Chelsea player. This was supposed to be his breakout season but he's been exposed. Just not cut out for the Premiership. Too fragile physically and looks average technically. For a Brazil no. 10 we sure got a dud one.

Will likely do okay in Italy where the pace of play and fewer games will suit him.

If Juventus still want him as a makeweight in a possible Pogba deal we should bite their hand off.
