April 19, 201412 yr the way hes been playing for the last 6 months, he'll get plenty of rest during the world cup I agree, if I were Scolari no way i'd be picking Oscar ahead of Willian or Coutinho.
April 19, 201412 yr I've got to be honest with Oscar. In my view he was our best player at the start of the season and was deservedly ahead of Mata in the pecking order. However, since Mata has left, Oscar's form has dropped off the cliff. Other than his two goals in the rout of Arsenal, I cannot think of another game in 2014 where Oscar has performed well. We could argue if Oscar is 'knackered' or 'overrated' until the cows come home but right now all that matters is that he's just not doing the business. On current form, there's no place for him in the first team. Willian has looked much sharper in the No. 10 role lately and I am inclined to persist with him down the middle for the rest of the season, with Schürrle, Salah and Hazard (when fit) adding the pace to the wings. I do believe that Oscar has a future at the club and can rediscover his previous form. I haven't lost total faith him yet, nor do I believe that he's overrated. He does need to be taken out of the firing line though.
April 19, 201412 yr Oscar has been physically and mentally shot since December. He won't get the break he needs this summer. Which means he'll have to be carefully managed most of next season. Personally I think we need another attacking midfielder to take the pressure off both Oscar and Hazard. Playing them twice a week has caught up with both of them.
April 19, 201412 yr Stop shooting. Stop dribbling. Pass the ball. Fanboy football gold here. Could of sworn I read something along these lines in the Willian thread.
April 19, 201412 yr Our strongest midfield currently is hazard willian shurrle, we need to give oscar the rest of the season off.
April 19, 201412 yr Maybe Thorgan can have a shot at deputizing. He is racking up the goals and assists in Belgium (I know, I know), still, might surprise a few.
April 19, 201412 yr Ramires is the weak link in the team. Just as someone else said... "I'm sick of expecting Ramires to mess up the attack..." He really has become very frustrating. Yeah to be honest I wouldn't be sad to see him go, he offers nothing besides legs and I am tired of him getting the ball. Every time he gets the ball I just give up, it's amazing that I actually count it as we have gave the ball away, I haven't felt like this about a player since Salomon Kalou.
April 19, 201412 yr Can we really be making excuses though? He is a professional footballer after all, we can't just keep saying well he is tired. Hazard plays a lot of games as well, more than anyone but look at the performances he puts in. Mata used to get burned out but he wasn't the fittest player around, Oscar is much fitter than Mata but from what I see of Oscar recently he just looks so bloody average on the ball. Maybe I'm just getting fed up because of the game, I feel kind of defeated, the worst has definitely came with Liverpool winning the league, I guess I'll just lay off the subject for a while when it comes to Oscar. But at the moment my opinion of him currently stands.
April 20, 201412 yr Just because your professional footballer doesn't mean you cant be tired or be out of form, he's a human being not a flipping robot. He always looks better playing for Brazil than he does for us even last season, so i wouldn't say Willian or Coutinho should play instead of him for Brazil. He does always look scruffy on the ball, he isn't good in tight spaces and never has his head up so i don't feel he will ever be that creative. He would be a good partner for Matic though.
April 20, 201412 yr Hes been very poor since Mata left bar Arsenal & Stoke at home, it always surprises me how he evades criticism, there always seems to be some excuse normally about age and tiredness, blah, blah. Edited April 20, 201412 yr by FLYMJ
April 20, 201412 yr Oscar's a good player but we can do better in this crucial position ... Ps. Whatever, ones thoughts are regarding Mata he certainly impressed more overall ...
April 20, 201412 yr Ever since Oscar started the 'Bale' heart shape celebration when he scored a goal, his form has dipped considerably. On a serious note, he's been pretty poor for the last 10 games or so, and deserves to be dropped. He is capable of so much more especially technically but he has since inherited Ramires's poor touches/passes and it's not funny at all. Maybe all the other Brazilians in the squad should be kept apart from Ramires.
April 20, 201412 yr When you say poor... we're talking by the extremely standards he set in his first season/start of this season/Brazil last two summers, not last-season-Torres poor. He's our third highest scorer this season, still does his shift defensively, only way he's lacking is the mental freshness in the final third. He's 22 years old, hasn't had a summer off since he was 19, I can't understand why he's become so many's go-to scapegoat. Because he was opted for over the offensive dynamo that was Mata seems to be the likely culprit.
April 20, 201412 yr He has performed superbly for Brazil this season and will 100% be a first choice in the World Cup as their NO10. The Premiership is the most frantic, unpredictable and toughest league in World Football. If you look at the time on the ball he has when playing for Brazil and the runs the likes of Fred and Neymar make, he is never rushed into a through ball and the instinct is there to pick a pass to create a goal. He also glides into position to score himself. Chelsea's midfield is often too congested and as mentioned Ramires is a headless and thoughtless chicken at times. When Oscar has to make a decision with us it is in a rush and he is tired looking because he is covering the mess Ramires puts us in. I believe Oscar will not start against Athletico, Luiz and Lampard will form the base and Willian will play the NO10 role and if Hazard is unfit Shurrle and Ramires will be either side. Things will improve for Oscar next season and someone with the class of Costa will make the runs and have the presence to feed off him. With Salah sure to start more games and he and Matic available in the Champions League I am sure the kid will get the rest he needs to perform more consistently at the hub of the Premiership battles. Those critising the lad are not being fair to him give the kid time.
April 20, 201412 yr He's got his eyes on Brazil. He doesn't want to get injured. A common problem before a world cup.
April 20, 201412 yr considering how excited I was going into thid season with mata, hazard, oscar, willian, de bruyne, and schurrle,we now look weaker and clueless in what was supposed to be the most exciting area of the pitch for us. Its difficult to not take into account the fact oscar has played 120 games in 2 years, but there is some not right with our attack. We seem to lack fluid link up play that 'mazacar' provided last year. I think emanalo and co assembled a squad for guardiola, but he chose bayern, and unstead of going for a manager with a similar style, the club went for mourinho, as they knew it would appease the fans after the rafa/rdm debacle. I think after the summer, mourinho will have a squad he feels more comfortable with, and the football will improve, although I dont think we will ever play the sort of passing game, that will make the critics go weak at the knees, which I personally find disappointing. On the flip side we will become a fantastic winning machine which im sure we will all love.

Willian is the oldest and he's what, 25? We have no center mid and no striker. How can we win anything with no CM and no striker? If you combined Lampard, Luiz, and Ramires, all into one player, that would be the player we need! Right?

I said we look weaker in attack than we did on paper at the start of the summer, yes we need a striker, and centre mid, although maybe a more attack minded manager would have made it work. I think after mourinho brings in 2/3 in the summer he will have a team he feels are good enough.
April 20, 201412 yr Its difficult to not take into account the fact oscar has played 120 games in 2 years... You'd think he'd be a better player after that much practice, but he seems to have got worse! The two things I will say in his defence is that he can hold his own despite his physical appearance and he has a decent free kick on him.

Athletic and quick like ramires, strong like luiz and calm on the ball, excellent decision-making and passing like lampard. We just need to clone matic and play them alongside each other and we're sorted. Or sign Yaya...

We have really missed Lampard's goals from midfield this season. Did Luiz even score one goal?
April 20, 201412 yr He has been a shadow of himself lately which is frustrating as hell to see as he oozes talent

How we play doesn't really bother me so much, i just want to see a team that creates chances and has control of the game. When we are struggling to break down teams i always feel like we are never really in control of the game, even when we have all of the possession.
April 20, 201412 yr But Oscar better technically, his passing is better than Ramires. Heather Mills' passing is better than Ramires' even when she's got her leg off.
April 21, 201412 yr I definitely do feel like our tactics are sometimes too rigid for him. With Brazil's fluid, dynamic system, electric full backs, and link-up play with Neymar, Oscar is magic--he'll be the star this world cup. I do wish that we'd play with a little bit more freedom, while tracking back is nice, we've got quality players at our disposal, we've seen what Willian and Salah can provide--maybe they could provide even more given some more freedom to operate, this team has the potential to play really good football.
