I've always said this. He's a lovely lad but he's never going to be one of the world's best because he doesn't have that desire, that killer instinct.

 

Look at Ronaldo - works his arse off in the gym to be the best he can be. 

Lampard - would stay after training and work on his finishing and becomes our greatest goalscorer.

Drogba - great striker, but decides to work on his free kicks for HOURS after training to get better.

 

Eden doesn't. He is one of the first off the training pitch and one of the first home because that's his character. It's not a surprise he struggled because he's simply not like that and you can't change your innate character in my opinion.

 

Good lad, massive natural talent but mentally lacking that something special.

The cynic in me wonders if certain players will start giving extra because of the upcoming Euros.

PS: Agree the massive contract was a mistake but that is what you get with all footballers. One good season & they start encouraging interest from other teams, it is ridiculous.

That first 45 minutes was his best this season. He was running at players, sprinting for return balls and he even tracked back tenaciously. I'm not sure if he's done that better this season.

 

Second-half he looked tired and some of his decision making was ponderous. His link-up play with Cesc was ungodly at times.

I think we saw this coming when he said he isnt worried about scoring and carrying a team like Ronaldo or Messi.

We will have agree to disagree then mate, I think he has played as well as that 1st half on a few occasions this year. Especially the the start of the season when confidence was still pretty high.

I agree with all of that except the performance thing. Maybe I'm forgetting some but he was looking happier playing today. Maybe it's because the pressure is off but like you say it can only be a good thing.

I forgot about that. I remember reading something from a Belgian sports writer where he said he believed hazard would never reach the highest level due to a lack of drive to be the very best.

He was among the top 5 in the world last year though, I would say that is the highest level. I would be happy if he could rediscover that form.

I was happy to see him scoring twice against Bournemouth. He should forget this season, everyone was disappointing this season. He's talented and one of our best players, we have to keep him in the next season and give him the chance to fix his errors from this season.

Wasn't any better than he has been this season today. Difference was he manged to score twice. Great for him though and great to see him on the sore sheet but way to premature to suggest everything is going to be back to PRE 2015 Hazard.

I think we all would. I agree he's top 5 most talented, or thereabouts, but he's not near that in terms of influence on a match. Which makes sense if you think he'll never realize his full potential

I still don't understand people (Barry) saying Hazard is a one season wonder. You've obviously just started following football or are blinded by hate for Hazard. At Lille he tore that league up and was wanted by every single club. Every season at Chelsea he's been fantastic getting into the team of the year every season. Yet you keep stating he's only had one great season..

Hazard not a one season wonder at all. I personally think his 2013-2014 season was his best at the club - he just didn't get POTY because of Suarez. Then player of the season last year. 

 

His first season with us and last season at Lille were hardly "bad" seasons either.
