It's not just pace, what about all the times yesterday when he was allowing crosses to come in because he doesn't get close enough to the crosser, and when it does get crossed he turns sideways all the time, I thought the idea was to try and block the cross in the first place, it's literally like he is allowing the cross so that they don't try sprinting round him.

 

Yeah he put in a pretty poor performance across the board, was beaten at the near post by Kompany for their second, and gave the ball away for Fernandinho's goal as well.

 

I'm hoping it's just pre-season rust; if Bran the man is genuinely in irreversible decline we've lost a big, big presence in our defence.

Has anyone considered that maybe Azpilicueta is a better LB than RB?

I know it's counter intuitive considering his right footed. But it's quite possible that his well suited to defending narrow on the left side of defence against opposition right midfielders/wingers.

I'm not saying for a moment he can't play RB. Just that it's possible the role his is now may suit him better.

He was doing the same things he's doing now at RB when he played there so I don't agree with this.

His lack of pace is now even more telling than previous season's. Its sad but we need to upgrade. 

He is a fan favourite and Jose's favourite,he won't be dropped.He has been terrible against Swansea and City,i can't really blame him since he is clearly a center back.Also switching Azpilicueta to RB won't happen since Baba Rahman will probably need time to settle.Saying this all teams will target our RB since it is clearly the weakness in our defense.We will probably go all out on Stones to freshen up the defense.Sad part is that the entire team is not gelling,on the good part it's only two games into the season and still plenty of time to turn things around.With Jose having the media battles and with our medical team isn't helping.

Another poor performance. I'm afraid that this season he will lose his spot in the starting line as RB.

Ivanovic is playing really poorly. Every player that gets him one on one seems to have the beating of him.

what is with the backing off with hands behind his back?! also he left fabregas to defend his position a couple of times. i dunno what is going on with him. 

  We haven't had a RB since Dave moved to the left.....get used to it Jose' isn't going to be dropping Ivan anytime soon.  Perhaps next week he will partner Cahill in the middle, Dave moves to the right and new boy Baba starts on the left...

He's one of Jose's favourites, and one of my favourites, but at the moment he has sawdust for brains.

 

That moment in the first half when he kicked the ball out of play, in a dangerous area, when Pedro went down, was inexcusable. Jose was raging on the touchline and rightly so. It could have led to a goal. Pedro wasn't hurt he jumped straight back up and he wasn't even fouled, and besides, if Ivanovic wants to kick it out, make sure the ball ends up up the other end. Schoolboy and embarrassing.

 

He switched off for their first as well, caught totally napping and it's becoming a habit.

I know Mourinho has his favorites but he's not scared to drop them. Just ask A.Cole, Cech, Lampard....

 

I really can't see Ivanovic starting in  our next game. He's been absolutely shocking in all 3 games this season.  

Ivanovic will not be dropped from his right-back position.  I'm afraid this is Mourinho not being objective here and it will ultimately cost the club points and places in the table.

Wondering how many goals we will concede this season coming from the right side when Ivan is playing.....I would imagine quite a large % .  I really can't understand why Jose' is being so blind to the fact that Ivan is tits when we are against a team that presses and has speed....and what is with the arms behind the back nonsense..same as Matic today when they score their first..

Love Ivo, but it is what it is. Most goals against us are coming from his side. He is very strong but against someone really fast; he got beaten most of the time now.

Also he can't cross for @&, he mess up many good counter attacks since the season started.
