Van Ginkel to Chelsea

Featured Replies

Watched the derby last night, he seemed decent enough but didn't really stand out IMO. Probably due to Inter dominating the middle of the park for most of the game.

Good to see him getting game time in any case.

All sounding positive, and I'd imagine he'll be given a pre-season with us.

Hope it works out for him, he's one of a number of players on loan you have to think just might make it. This could be a summer where we find a few squad-strengthening options are already contracted to CFC.

With RLC in contention I think it would be best for every party if Van Ginkel was sold. He is neither a ready Prem player nor 18 yr old. Haven't seen any game from Milan but somehow I feel he is not there yet.

He's been very unfortunate with injuries. Maybe he needs a run out with a premier league side -- I think a loan out to a mid table club would be ideal. Needs to get first team football, and overcome his injuries.

Watched only a little of Milan, but he had about 11-12 90 minutes in a row. I know Milan don't have a very string squad, but they seem to rate him high enough to make him undroppable for that many games.

Just to see what Milan supporters themselves, I had a little look on one of their English forums and the view seems to be equal in terms of wanting to buy him or not (maybe 55-45 in Van Ginkek's favour). I think earlier on it was a case of him being solid and unspectacular, but the last couple of games he has improved.

From his Vitesse days, he is a player who can get goals from midfield as well as having a solid enough midfield game. I was expecting to turn into something like a Lampard for us in a few years after buying him (or in the very least, a Tiago). His goal against Roma the other day was a little similar to what you'd see from Lampard. Ghosting into the area unnoticed and knocking it in from a striker's position with a bit of good movement.

It seems like Milan as a club want to keep him, whatever their fans think.

He has a contract until 2018 so there's no reason to sell him now when he's still recovering from an injury. What he needs is a season of solid playing-time and he seems to be on track to get that at Milan so I'd be inclined to keep him there and reassess next summer.

As others have said though, RLC's emergence does take up a spot in the squad and he's going to have to do exceptionally well to get back in contention here. His best bet is probably having a good season where he plays every week and getting a move elsewhere, but I certainly wish him the best because he seems like a really great lad and was extremely unlucky with his injury coming when it did.

Matic

Mikel

Ramires

RLC

Fabregas

Oscar

These are the 6 we have currently for three positions, if you count Ake as a left back. From those two, I'm tempted to think Mikel or Ramires could be replaced, but the no one else gives what Ramires does in terms of his workhouse style (unless you count Willian), and Mikel is the most natural deputy for Matic out of the lot.

If he could have a good, strong season in the prem (or even elsewhere), maybe he could get a look in the season after.

Still young. Don't see the need to rush with him.

Van Ginkel looks a tidy player, but he is way too injury prone and should be moved on.

Isn't being injury prone usually about recurrent soft tissue issues? His injuries haven't been that exactly have they? They've been the result of bad tackles or unfortunate movements so I don't think he's injury-prone.

Strange because when he signed, he was challenging for a first team spot prior to his ALC injury. Now he looks like dropped down tnethe pecking order.

It seems like Newcastle want to bring him on loan. It would be a good test for him in PL.

Agree that a Premier League loan would be good but Newcastle are a wreck and you can bet that the loan signings would be the first to be marginalised should things start to go belly up again this coming season.

Might not be the most productive environment for him.

Newcastle has just fired their manager, so I wouldn't be too eager to ship any player there until we know who's going to be at the helm

It's the worst kept secret that Steve McLaren is going there.

Decent manager, has a pretty good record of working with young players too.

But it's Newcastle and they're a shambles of a club and so I'd be pretty wary of any of our players going there.

They're well and truly in the sh^te then, Mclaren is absolutely dire.

He could possibly beat out Reus or Griezmann for best hair in professional football.

On a side note, I have always liked this kid and think he would eventually be a great addition to this first team squad.
