Van Ginkel to Chelsea

Featured Replies

He used to be promising as well before tearing his acl.

He flourishes in the dutch league, should be given a punt for at least a season and if he still can't do it then sell him to PSV.

The Dutch league's are very poor these days and you can see that with the free fall of the national side in recent years.

MvG done nothing of note when playing in the EPL, he looked a bang average midielder and hes not exacyly a youth player anymore. Tons of players look like world beaters in that league and struggle here just like that hoy Everton bought who was player of the year in Holland and looks mince here.

Danny Drinkwater is a far better footballer than MvG and that's coming from someone who doesn't really rate Danny.

The sooner we actually sell all these so called prospects and buy an actual top quality player the better. Mvg is never getting in this team its pointless loaning him out every season.

Has captained PSV to the Dutch league title.

In 27 league appearance this season he has 14 goals and 4 assists.... Question is, should we be thinking about giving him a chance back at Chelsea next season?

I can't help but think that given how underwhelming both Drinkwater and Bakayoko have been this season surely we could do a lot worse than cutting our loses with both and recalling Loftus-Cheek and van Ginkel and perhaps investing in someone like Vidal, who Munich are apparently willing to let go come the summer.

I mean, if captaining a team to a league title is reason enough to at least give a chance to someone on the loan army then... What's the point?

I guess it may depend if we sign Seri (who we've apparently made enquiries for). Drinkwater is homegrown and as underwhelming as Bakayoko has been he's still a #6, something perhaps the same can't be said about van Ginkel. Personally I'm not convinced van Ginkel is any better than Barkley (also homegrown), and if we sign Seri there may not be a place for him (or RLC)?

Would hope we offer van Ginkel to PSV for Lozano (i.e. player+cash)

Would touch Vidal, Bayern don’t usually let go of their players unless something is wrong somewhere. I do rate Van Ginkel and I think he should be given a chance, next season will be his last year so we are better off giving him a chance instead of taking a £5m fee, you just never know. If he isn’t up to scratch, we can always let him go in Jan for free.

Unfortunately, his injury ruined his chances of getting into the team. Never looked the same player once he came back. He's 25 now and we have the likes of RLC that would be better off with the chance.

Real shame as prior to that he was a very good player and looked like a future Lampard replacement, no doubt in my mind he would be featuring for us regularly if it wasn't for the ACL injury.

Has anyone watched him this season, first time in a while has played over 20 games in a season and is also club captain?

Yes.

Marco van Ginkel has undergone a procedure relating to the revision reconstruction of his anterior cruciate ligament and treatment of chondral damage in his knee. The expected recovery time is approximately eight months.

The whole season is a write off... Doesn't look like he's ever going to fully recover from the injury he had when he was with us. Shame because he's clearly a talented player.

Agree, you would think he might start to think about becoming a coach.

He’s not even close to being fit but has been registered in our Premier League squad.

Probably a safety net option if nothing else.

Isn’t he close to recovering from his injury? It will be interesting to see if he gets any game time. I doubt it.

Is he registered for Europa?

Not registered for Europe as far as I know.

He's about a month away from returning to training apparently so then you would imagine it would 3 to 4 weeks before he's got any sort of match fitness.

If he plays for us at all this season I would be extremely surprised.

Hasn't he been out injured for large parts of most seasons?

Yep, think this is his third knee injury now if i'm not mistaken.

This is also the same player that couldn't break into a struggling Milan side and got his loan cancelled by Stoke. Only ever managed to do it in the Dutch league.

It's an 8 month knee injury. Once he's back he's the perfect sub for Jorginho.

Sarri has already said Kovacic is Jorginho's backup. We'll never see Van Ginkel struggle for Chelsea thankfully.

I wouldn't say never. But it's extremely unlikely.

Great name though, Wulfert Cornelius van Ginkel
