Van Ginkel to Chelsea

Feel bad for the kid, btu at least he has age and time on his side.  It's not like he needs to be rushed back in

The only thing i can find on line is that its suspected.. But have to say when I tore mine there was No way I could put weight on it, had to have an ambulance come And get me. So the fact he actually went back out thinking he might run it of gives me hope... that or he is one hard bar steward

Yep, it seems his agent has confirmed it. If that's the case that's his season done.

Such a shame for the lad, gutted for him. Awful.

Many professional athletes have such strong leg muscles that they can walk on a torn ACL without a limp.  Their muscles will compensate to a certain extent. There have been a few American Football players that have looked almost normal walking just minutes after tearing their ACL.  Once they try to move side to side the knee gives out. That's probably why he tried to go back out and then gave up. The muscles can only support a certain amount of use before the knee gives out.

Hopefully he hasn't torn it but it sure looked bad.

I remember when Joe Cole did his cruciate ligament in the first time, he carried on playing for a while, then he went down in agony. Van Ginkel should have just gone off as soon as he twisted his knee, he may have done more damage by playing on.

Everybody repairs differently.... at the minute it looks bad, but he is very young..... he could be back before the season ends if all goes well.

Not having much luck with our young midfielders are we....what a terrible start to his chelsea career, barely played, in losing cause against Basle in first start and now this

If he had broken into the 1st team, he would have had a very good chance of going to the world cup with Holland. Not anymore.

Such a shame for him, and all of a sudden we look a bit light in central midfield.

Yes but Luiz, Oscar and KDB can do a job there.

None of them are really central midfielders though.  Luiz is a bit of a mystery, Oscar has been nailed on as our No.10 by Jose, and KDB hasn't featured there once.  I'm told he played there in Germany, but to what extent?  Jose seems to see him as a winger.  Our CM really needs some love in coming transfer windows, and Chalobah needs to make the step up as soon as possible.  I dread meeting City and watching Toure boss us around for the third year running.

Spot on. It's painful to watch Touré boss us so easily.

Wonder how we'll do against City -- 6 games last season (including friendlies though) and we didn't win one!

True, but with Luiz and Oscar you are taking them out of their best positions and it would be a risk putting KdB there IMO.

But anyway, that's just a side issue. Can't imagine how bad MvG is feeling at the moment. Poor poor lad.

F*cks sake. Out for 9 months according to the Guardian. McEachran's still around? Or do we recall Chalobah in January?

Both of their loans are until January.

Gutted for MVG....he's a talented lad, and I think he had hopes of making the Dutch WC squad (though I think he would have struggled to do that considering he was unlikely to be a first XI regular with us)

Hope his recovery goes well.

I said this before but in my opinion as long as he didn't tear his cartilage or meniscus he should be able to get the ACL reconstruction surgery and be just fine in 7-9 months. If he had torn his articular cartilage or his meniscus his knee would never be the same since the meniscus cannot regrow, and cartilage cannot regrow exactly the way it was.

This looks like a job for.....

SUPER ESS!!!

Gutted for MvG, was looking forward to what he had to offer, I would assume that Chalobah will be kept around when his loan expires in January.

Until then we need the goal scoring marvel that is John Obi Mikel to maintain his blistering form....

6-9 months says SSN actually.

Modern surgery makes the healing relatively fast. In the 70's they had to do it with open surgery which takes forever to heal and repairing the ligaments was closer to whichcraft rather than practicing medicine.

just look at ice hockey legend Bobby Orr's knee. They say he could have gone on for 5 more years with modern practice. He was condifered a 'guinea pig' for these surgeries...

We have Essien, Mikel, Ramie and Lamps. Luiz has also played there. I think thats plenty of cover. I dobut MvG would have played that many games for us anyway. Carling cup, early FA cup games maybe but thats about it. I feel bad for the kid but it wont effect us that much.

Because we have a lot of lightweight forwards,
