Apparently his agent has came out saying how disappointed mvg is at not making the bench vs burnley, and that they are awaiting a response from the club.

Hopefully just bs, because that would be ridiculous after 1 game. It also wouldn't bode well for his general happiness this season, as I think there will be plenty of games where he doesn't make the squad, especially with ramires now available.

 

I get the feeling he isn't willing to sit on anyone's bench.  I think, like Lukaku, he'd rather play for a weaker team and be nailed on than compete in a squad like ours.  Remember when we first signed him he supposedly had reservations about playing time and then he suffered that injury.

I wouldn't be against him going on loan to AC Milan, as long as he plays get's plenty of game time.

I think a loan to Milan would be great for his development, I just worry about our depth in midfield if that happens.

 

We'd just be left with Ramires and Mikel as back ups, and Mikel is only useful for about 3 games a season.

If he goes on loan, we could be left a bit light in midfield. Maybe chalobah or baker will step up. Neither of them are as developed as van ginkel though.

What happens if matic gets injured? We don't have a fernandinho or fernando type player to take his place in midfield, unlike city if they lost toure.

I agree, I think could possibly get more than 15 games. It sounds like his agent isn't giving him the best advice, if he wants to make it here, he should stay and fight for his place, if he goes out on loan, I can see him falling further down the pecking order when he returns.

With van ginkel edging closer to a loan to Milan, does anyone think we will see anybody come in to replace him, or will we give chalobah, ake, or baker, the chance to get some serious first team football.

There have been a few links with psg midfielder Adrian rabiot, who at the age of 19 wouldnt take up a foreign squad place. Not seen much of him personally, but he is being track by most of Europe, and from all accounts he is a very good prospect.

Not sure he is any better than van ginkel though, but with him being 2 years younger, he may be happier with being a squad player this year.

Cesc is someone who we are going to miss the most. We'll have to change how we play when he doesn't.

I think the squad situation will be sorted out in the goalkeeping department. If cech stays then Schwarzer won't be registered. If cech goes Schwarzer will be number 2 and an u21 will be 3rd choice.

Good to see him choosing us and backing himself, unlike some Kraken who shall remain Legendless. He has the option to choose a truly great name in European football and in real terms, I think he could nail himself on as 3rd choice for the pivot positions this year. I'd already out him above Mikel and I think he has the potential to be better than Ramires there.

The thing is that he is going to get game time here. We've got what, 5 players, 6 at a push to cover 2/3 positions for the whole year in a 2 or 3 man midfield.
