Just digging back through the start of this thread and seeing how the opinions changed and evolved as the rumour turned into a reality and I just found this bit of Mystic Meggism.

Didn't see the point of him after Jose got rid of Mata but it seems Cesc is a different animal. Mata is more of an AM but his main asset is to open up defences with a accurate passes as well so in that perspective they are there to do the same job. Cesc controls the pace of the game better.

True, and he does tackle, something we rarely saw from Mata. I haven't seen him taking up his former club in any interviews, unlike Torres ( which pissed me off more than his lack of goals)

I'd actually agree with that. Goes missing but as for matic he's unreal. To be fair cecs was better today then against utd and city. If he was injuries in anyway he shouldn't have been playing its a long season

Fabregas has been absolute class for us I think he's allowed a few off games.

Don't forget aswell he set up the match killer for Costa against Arsenal and also took the corner that led to the goal yesterday. Hardly call him a big game bottler

Well he played well against Arsenal who are a better team than the dippers so there goes your theory.

Clearly below par in this game and now we know why. Injured. That is a risk. Our attack lacks direction and focus when fab is not running the show. It's not just the passes and assists but also the running with the ball when he wants to.

They also showed him at fault for one of Everton's goals earlier in the season, and I remember Gary Neville doing a piece on his lack of defensive capabilities on Monday Night Football a while back. Could be a problem.

 

Can't fault him for his attacking play and assists this season but his lack of defensive discipline could hurt us.

Well, not everyone can be great defensively for the team. Sometimes the defenders need to stop the goals, we can't just blame the midfielders ever time we concede a goal.

 

We also need to remember that this is the first time Fabregas has played for a side like Chelsea, he's used to playing for sides who love to pass the ball to death. Mourinho knew what he was getting when he bought Fabregas.

 

I don't think Fabregas is the problem, i just don't think the defense is defending well enough for 90 minutes.

To be honest, as long as he keeps getting us 3 points against smaller sides, I'm still happier than last season.

I agree, and it's not like he is useless at the defensive side of the game. I have seen him put in some decent tackles for us and win us the ball back.

Tigh mucle tear apperantly, Chelsea doctors just waiting for the Spanish doctors to look at him as well before making it official. He will most likely loose our games against West Brom, Schalke and Sunderland.

 

A bit worried about ultra defensive teams when Fabregas is not playing, but I still can't see us loosing any points against these sides.

Not too worried about West Brom at home, despite last year, and Schalke. Would like him back for Sunderland away.

So we drop him and bring Mikel in to add defensive stability. how long until the comments come about Mikel not providing enough going forward? Horses for courses, can't have it all. I'd rather have Fabregas in the team, as we are going to be on the front foot the majority of the time against most teams, and he can help us win games, rather than Mikel who helps us to not lose them.

 

I'd rather have Ramires or move Oscar into midfield than play Mikel there
