Posted April 18, 201410 yr John Terry is said to be close to his new deal.... Cole and Lampard may also stay More here: http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11668/9271249/premier-league-john-terry-close-to-agreeing-new-chelsea-deal
April 18, 201410 yr But according to some sources he'll have to play for 37p because we don't value him, obviously.
April 18, 201410 yr The 33-year-old has reportedly been offered a new deal by the West London club but on half his current wage. Holland rejected any suggestions of tension between player and club and also revealed that the Blues are also looking to seal new deals for long-serving duo Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard. I'm surprised at that, I was under the impression JT had a top earner clause in his contract (although this may have been pre-Hazard/Torres), he'd be a champ if he accepts it though. Obviously he's not going to starve or anything but yet another example of our captain putting the club first. I'm unsure how I feel about Lamps and Cole getting new deals, both have been well below standard for a couple of seasons now.

Think this might be the new reality (short term or otherwise) of FFP and wage caps. Really deserves the captains armband if it pans out as true.
April 19, 201410 yr Bizarre if we want to renew Ash's contract. I expect we'll keep on JT, hopefully he'll take a pay cut too.
April 19, 201410 yr This doesn't read like the usual tabloid bollocks so I'm inclined to believe it. I'm glad that we seem to be trying to keep Terry on but it doesn't seem right to make him to sign on the cheap (well, not really cheap but relatively speaking). He's the club captain and one of our best players and should be valued as such. I don't think he'll leave the club until he retires, but if he does reject the new contract then he'll have my full support.

And what about all the money he has already made out of this club and our supporters ? I love JT and would die by his side, but he's a multi multi multi millionaire, considering that, if he really loves the club he would play for nothing, we all would, wouldn't we ?

And the club has stood by him through thick and thin.

Apparently he's in quite abit of debt

Your point seems to be that football players are highly paid and wealthy, which is a different issue. My point is that the best players should make the most money and I don't understand how you could argue with that. edit- by the way, I don't work for free and I wouldn't expect anybody else too either. Well said Coco. And the club has stood by him through thick and thin. How very selfless of the club. Terry could have joined pretty much any other team in Europe if he wanted to, and there's still plenty of teams that would snap him up. Edited April 19, 201410 yr by bluedave
April 19, 201410 yr One the best players of the season for us. The contract should be a no brainer. We need him for everything. For captaining, for leadering for legending. But seriously we'd be a bunch of imbecils to not give it to him basically.

Its a simplistic view to say we would play for nothing as fans, if it was your career then you wouldn't, no matter how much you loved the club. Players who have been at clubs for many years have been well paid, but cases of them taking huge paycuts or even playing for free can be counted on one hand I would guess. What terry brings to the squad can be measured way beyond what he brings on the pitch. April 19, 201410 yr Personally I think its a bit disappointing that there club are looking to cut his pay. His contributions on the pitch haven't been on the decline and he has been absolutely incredible this season. So at the very least he should be earning the same pay. I (along with everything other true fan of this club) really value John Terrys commitment to the Blues. Wouldn't have had his name set printed on the back of shirts otherwise. He is one of the finest examples of when homegrown talent does good.
April 19, 201410 yr I would rather Lamps be kept on as a back up player whilst he gets his badges to be honest. His performances haven't been great lately and I can't see them improving either. I would hate to see him fade like this.
April 20, 201410 yr Hope Lamps stays too. His presence at the club is important. For me it all depends if a contract extension will hinder a younger players progression. Earlier in the season when Lampard was getting the nod undeservedly in my opinion the excuse given from some was that Van Ginkel's injury neccessitated it. So why is he not being picked now?he should be quite fresh should'nt he? he's had an injury, on the odd occasion he starts he hardly ever finishes the game, and plenty of chelsea supporters across various forums have declared this season as not being one of his finest! the sentimental selections have come to an end it seems. Maybe his prescence at the club is important, but not as a starter in my opinion.
April 20, 201410 yr JT is a must. Yes, I agree that his weekly wage should be cut with performance related bonuses increasing but it all hinges on how Jose sees him playing next season. If he's not a nailed on starter then he can't be captain. But that's a whole other question...

But that's a whole other question... whether he starts or not, John Terry should always be the club captain IMO. and after this season, i can't see him not being a regular next season anyway
May 4, 201410 yr Either he's completely shattered from what happened on-pitch or he knows that was his last game at Stamford Bridge.
May 4, 201410 yr Either he's completely shattered from what happened on-pitch or he knows that was his last game at Stamford Bridge. I think he was just disappointed with the result. There is no way we can let Terry go, he is one of our players of the season. Also with the home grown rule we can't afford to not have him.
