June 9, 201412 yr You lot are mental. You couldnt ask for a better 2nd or 3rd choice striker. He can still do a job but more importantly he would be a leader in the dressing room. I think those of you who dont want him back because his last kick won us the CL are mad. Nothing can take that away from him or us. He is a free transfer also. If we are to be getting rid of our current strikers then its a good thing to bring in someone who knows the club and the league as back up. People are 'mad' for having an opinion which differs from yourself? Get over yourself.
June 9, 201412 yr The problem is i dont think Lukaku will man up and face the challengeI hate it when I agree with you.Obviously we only get press snippets and quotes (some genuine, some twisted) but it always seems he wants to leave because he can't be bothered to fight for his place. Perhaps he's seen players like Sturridge and Ba get no where and Torres being favoured despite his form, but it just seems like he doesn't want to fight, he wanted to be a started guaranteed whatever. Perhaps doing him a great disservice, but just calling it as I see it.

June 14, 201412 yr Lukaku doesn't want to fight for his spot? Seems a harsh judgement for a lad who hasn't been given a chance to fight for that spot. But hey, why would we want an young ambitious striker who is hungry for success? I mean we had that in Sturridge and clearly we are better off without him, he only got 21 goals and 7 assists in 29 starts in his first full season with another BPL team challenging for the title.....and so what if Lukaku has been even better on loan? So what that Lukaku out scored every single Chelsea player last season? So what if his goal tally reflects that of all 3 other Chelsea strikers combined? If he isn't willing to ride the bench and earn a pay packet, aka fight for his spot just like Torres and Ba, we clearly don't need him. Get rid of the hassle and let someone else deal with his bags of goals every season, we don't need that either. Just cant wait for another rival to pick up one of our "not good enough strikers even though they never got the chance they deserved through their performances" and watch said striker come 2nd top scorer in the league next season. he has left Chelsea twice, at his request apparently, on loan to go prove his worth in less talented teams, against the exact same oppositions as his talent loaded parent club, when he could easily of stayed and made just as much money with little to no expectations. Can someone please explain to me how this describes someone not up to a challenge? Edited June 14, 201412 yr by Barry Bridges

July 14, 201412 yr Makes no sense to me, we saw when we played Galatasaray that Drogba isn't the same power house any more and why would he be at 36? We've got Lukaku on the books already so why not give him the chance rather than the short termism because this time next year we're only going to be looking for another striker again.
July 14, 201412 yr Lukaku isn't fit to lace Drogba's boots even at 36. I think DD could still offer us something.
July 14, 201412 yr One of the greats of this club but really 2nd or 3rd striker option are we that desperate and there is absolutely not one striker out there in the world that can't come in as a 2nd and 3rd option that we cannot afford? Come back as a coach in some capacity or as a personal coach / trainer for Lukaku but as a player sat on the bench, don't think so. Let's remember him the player he was.
July 14, 201412 yr The main thing about having Didier back is he'd be great for the other strikers, training with someone like him can only help. Would love him back, plus can always bring him on against Arsenal if we need a goal

July 14, 201412 yr if the idea is to get DD to sort Lukaku out then I think that's fair enough but I really can't see DD getting any game time unless aliens have abducted everyone else
July 14, 201412 yr One injury to Costa and suddenly you're relying on Drogba to lead the line for the title challenge which he isn't capable of any more. It carries risks signing someone of Didier's age to be back up... Not sold on this idea at all.

If he ever wants to get his coaching badges, we could offer him a learning spot, in view of what he has meant for the club. But please, no mucking about just because we haven't got a decent or proven (in the PL) goal scorer on our books.
July 14, 201412 yr Its too early for him to come back as a coach. Hes at least another couple of years. And as for back up striker, what is the point. He's lost his edge.
July 14, 201412 yr Drogba returning as a player is not something I would be a fan of at all. At 36, I don't know how this could be seen as anything but a backwards move even if his role was only intended as a limited one. AS much as I get frustrated with Lukaku and think he has a lot to learn I still think we should be focussing on getting him back with the squad and fighting for a place, selling him the dream in the process if needs be, i.e. him and Costa are the main men, the future. By bringing Drogba back at 36 and selling Lukaku (if we did indeed do this of course) this would be a rather peculiar thing to do and I can't really see any long term positives. He will hang up his boots for good after the season and we will be worse than we were at the start of the season. Also, I just don't really want to ruin the legendry way in which he signed off from the club. Edited July 14, 201412 yr by mclovin83

July 14, 201412 yr I don't see what realistic options the club will have if Lukaku decides to leave and Ba as well. Maybe a cheap, average striker as a back up choice? No other club in their right mind will take Torres so he's here to stay until his contract is up. So back to my original point, what are realistic choices for second choice striker? It can't be a big name like Cavani, Falcao, Benzema etc, unless Mourinho is planning to play with two forwards. I would be happy with Ba as second choice but it seems like he wants to be a starter. Even at 36 I would take Drogba over Torres because he is reliable and wouldn't fall over the ball like a 3 year old. Torres' demand to be first choice in 2012 essentially forced Drogba out of the club and forced Sturridge out 6 months later. Who knows how Drogba/Sturridge, Hazard, Oscar, and Mata would have played together? If he does come back as a short term solution then I welcome it. Edited July 14, 201412 yr by cfc88
July 14, 201412 yr I think we need to credit Mourinho with being one of the best coaches in world football and surely on that basis he has a bit more about him than going back and signing a 36 year old way past his best. Has to be yet another complete non-story.
July 14, 201412 yr People are delusional for thinking that bringing back Drogba to play would be a good idea. Cmon people!
