July 18, 201412 yr If you honestly can't see how working with drogba would help lukaku then there is no hope for you. Edited July 18, 201412 yr by dkw
July 18, 201412 yr I honestly believe that Lukaku would benefit more from working with a properly trained specialist coach who is able to identify and improve on his strong and weak points that trying to emulate another player, but I'm funny like that.
July 18, 201412 yr Remember that if Drogba came back as a player, he would take up a non HG slot. Is he worth it at 36?
July 18, 201412 yr Whats better for a trainer than someone who has been there and done it all? Drogba would be a perfect trainer.
July 18, 201412 yr Not all great players can explain to others what made them so great. I also don't think it would necessarily help Lukaku, from day one he's been called the new Drogba, now it's time for him to forge his own name and career and not to try to be Drogba - they're not the same players.
July 18, 201412 yr Just because you have training with the player you're compared to does not mean you will turn out like them though. Drogba could give lots of advice and tips that could make Lukaku work harder, end of the day if he's good enough he'll be remembered for been Lukaku anyway. Now I know Di Santo didn't make it here but he once talked about the advice Drogba gave him on the pitch, when you have a chance whether you score it or miss it you work hard for the next chance. Its good advice and if he were to come here to work with the forwards I'm sure they'd all learn things from him. He also might be good to give Lukaku some maturity advice, Drogba spat his dummy out a fair few times and he learned from that, maybe he can give Lukaku advice on how to get on with things and not repeat his mistakes.
July 18, 201412 yr There's no doubt there are potential benefits but there are also potential "opposites of benefits"????? (mind blank, sorry!). Drogba is not proven as a coach at all and whilst I wouldn't be against him having a coaching role here I don't think people should automatically think it will benefit Lukaku. If Drogs is just capable of offering Lukaku some career advice surely he'd be willing to do that over a coffee or something?

Maybe it wouldn't benefit Lukaku but could benefit other players, Drogba worked harder than almost anyone during his time here and that kind of thing is invaluable. Lukaku been helped out by his hero would surely help his development. We're talking training etc so a chat over a coffee would not do that.
July 18, 201412 yr I dont think it matters anyway because the bottle job will leave this summer and probably go striaght to the media to tell everyone what he thinks of Chelsea. He cant hack it at a big club. He should go back to Everton because anyone above that is to much of a challenge for the coward.
July 18, 201412 yr And what would that achieve? "Didi, how did you score that volley against Everton?!" "I don't know, I jusr turned around and kicked it." great lessons 10/10 Good reasoning Syd...the same thing goes to managers right. What could he tell different? Go on boys win the game..no matter who says it really, right?

Think you may be right there, you can guarantee he'll slag us off when he does go
July 18, 201412 yr Without a shadow of a doubt! If he does it while he is contracted to us then you can bet your bottom dollar then he will do it when sold.
July 18, 201412 yr Without a shadow of a doubt! If he does it while he is contracted to us then you can bet your bottom dollar then he will do it when sold. No doubt, he's clearly one of those players that looks to blame others for his short comings, instead of looking at himself.
July 18, 201412 yr Good reasoning Syd...the same thing goes to managers right. What could he tell different? Go on boys win the game..no matter who says it really, right? If your best argument is to invent something totally stupid for Sydney to say so that you can ridicule it, then that's not much of an argument at all. July 18, 201412 yr Good reasoning Syd...the same thing goes to managers right. What could he tell different? Go on boys win the game..no matter who says it really, right? It is good reasoning. Just because Drogba was a great striker, it doesn't mean he'll be any good at teaching someone else to be as good as him. Just like great boxers don't always make great trainers.
July 18, 201412 yr Where has Lukaku called himself a complete striker? He was quoted in several newspapers on 09 June, do a search.
July 18, 201412 yr just to add to pros of having The Great DD returning as a Coach. He has already assisted our youth with his technique. Do you people remember when Borini went on load to Swansea City? Borini scored a great free kick & he confessed he learned the technique working with Drogba. If you forgot, let this video refresh your memories. I watched Côte d'Ivoire before & during the World Cup. Les Éléphants were stronger when #11 was playing. I only see upsides with this CFC Legend in our back room developing strategies for the opposition with Jose.
July 18, 201412 yr 10 mins to go in a game where we need a goal, even at 36 you just know Drogba could come on and make a huge difference
July 18, 201412 yr SkySports on the case reporting he is leaning towards coming home to team up with Mourinho in a player-coach role now.
July 18, 201412 yr Sky sources understand that moves are afoot to bring former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba back to Stamford Bridge next season, possibly in a player-coach role. Drogba, who is out of contract following a stint with Turkish side Galatasaray, reportedly has a lucrative two-year contract offer on the table from Italian champions Juventus. But the Ivorian, who scored 157 goals in 341 appearances for Chelsea, is said to be leaning towards returning to London to once again work under Jose Mourinho. The 34-year-old remains the only player in history to have scored in four FA Cup finals and is idolised by the club’s fans. Mourinho signed Drogba for £24m from Marseille in 2004 and together the pair won six major trophies including the Premier League in their first season, Chelsea’s first top-flight title in 50 years. Drogba went on to win another six trophies after Mourinho left the club in 2007, including the Champions League. Chelsea have already completed the signing of another striker in Diego Costa, who completed a £32m transfer from La Liga champions Atletico Madrid earlier this week. But Samuel Eto’o has already left the club following the expiry of his contract while another striker, Demba Ba, completed a £5m move to Besiktas on Friday. Romelu Lukakau, who spent last season on-loan at Everton, has been linked with a move away while Fernando Torres has failed to convince in a Chelsea shirt since his £50m move from Liverpool in 2011. http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11668/9386999/premier-league-didier-drogba-could-be-reunited-with-jose-mourinho-at-chelsea Edited July 18, 201412 yr by Bobbywoodhogan
July 18, 201412 yr Would say the Drog has more than earned the right to come back if he wants, just as Lamps was told he is welcome back whenever he wants however he wants I feel the Drog deserves the same. Would be better to be Costa, Lukaku and Drogba than Costa, Torres and Drogba though lol...

Would be better to be Costa, Lukaku and Drogba than Costa, Torres and Drogba though lol... Lampard wasn't offered a contract, he is welcome back but clearly not in a playing capacity. Not sure why drogba would be any different. He would also take up a foreign squad place, so that would be 2 including Schwarzer, that are being used for emergency options. Really can't see it happening, and hope it doesn't either, wouldn't be a very forward thinking move by the club.
July 18, 201412 yr What i like most about him returning as a coach/player, is he will be the influence in the dressing room. He is a big character, larger than life, and a big, big motivator. Remember how Luiz said before the CL final that Drogba gave him motivation words and he went out there with a fire in his belly. I think that is what would be awesome for the players in the squad.
