July 9, 201412 yr Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Mario Pasalic from Hajduk Split. Pasalic is a 19-year-old attack-minded midfielder, who has represented Croatia at Under-21 level and was named in his country’s 30-man provisional World Cup squad. Upon completing his transfer, Pasalic said: ‘I am very happy because I am now a Chelsea player. I am very impressed by the training ground and I must thank everybody at Hajduk. This is now a new start in my career. ‘I am a central midfielder, my favourite player is Frank Lampard, and so I am very happy to be a Chelsea player.’ The German-born youngster enjoyed a fine first full season in senior football during 2013/14, scoring 11 times in 36 appearances in all competitions and helping his side to third place in the Croatian league. He made his first team debut late in the previous season. He will join Jose Mourinho’s squad for its first pre-season training session this afternoon.
July 9, 201412 yr Another kid who will never wear our jersey. I know its a financial strategy by the club, but its kinda annoying,
July 9, 201412 yr sorry but who really cares about these boys signing for us...we won`t see them in the first team ...they`ll just disappear like to rest of them.
July 9, 201412 yr Welcome lad!! No idea who he is but I rather enjoy we make our dealings quiet like this. He'll probably go to Vitesse as well.
July 9, 201412 yr Why are you lot getting upset? He should make our club a few quid in a couple of seasons and that money will be spent on bigger stars.
July 9, 201412 yr This may be part of our way of tackling financial fair play getting these cheap young players, and selling them on for a small profit after a few years but who knows he may turn out good. I certainly don't mind us doing this. Welcome to the club, and good luck to him (he will certainly need it!).
July 9, 201412 yr Its up to him now. If he does really well in pre season who knows but if doesnt then he will be loaned out.
July 9, 201412 yr Its up to him now. If he does really well in pre season who knows but if doesnt then he will be loaned out. Exactly, who knows, looks like Courtois is about to join back up with us after 3 seasons out on loan, maybe he'll be the loanee that kickstarts. something here.
July 9, 201412 yr The way I see it with young players is, if he is good enough mentally, physically and tactically he will break through. If not we will sell for a minor, or major profit and move on to the next promising talent. This gives extra money in the budget to buy established players when required. One of these days we will hit a superstar, this is the logical way to do it cheaply. It is certainly nothing to complain about, the club is quite clearly investing in youth and we will strike a major hit one day. Until then its business as usual.
July 9, 201412 yr Whats even the point? None that I can see. We fritter away tens of millions on players such as this, the vast majority of whom will never be good enough to play for us. The money could be much more sensibly spent on a first team player who will improve us right now.
July 9, 201412 yr They are trained, given a chance... and sold for profit if not good enough for the first team. I dont see the problem really Edited July 9, 201412 yr by Zola
July 9, 201412 yr Buy low, sell high! Young players are like stocks now. I don't think it's a particularly big earner, even big profits like de bruyne, only really make up the losses on the likes of di Santo.

The money could be much more sensibly spent on a first team player who will improve us right now. Consequence of FFP. We're under pressure to increase our revenues and because of our (relatively) small stadium we have to look elsewhere to make money. We recruit promising youth talent, develop them into better players and if really good they'll go into our first team if their not more often than not they're sold for a profit which counts in favour. De Bruyne is probably the best example, bought for £7m and sold 2 years later for £11m profit.
July 9, 201412 yr This was confirmed around 5 months ago I guess and he was loaned back for the rest of the season. http://www.theshedend.com/topic/25258-who-in-the-blue-hell-is-mario-pasalic/?hl=pasalic Edited July 9, 201412 yr by footballoholic

It doesn't seem to me to be a very effective or reliable way of making money, if that is the purpose of it.
July 9, 201412 yr They are trained, given a chance... and sold for profit if not good enough for the first team. I dont see the problem really Only problem is the expenditure starts mounting and impacts our spending on first team players due to FFP. Zouma was 12 million and is rumoured to be going out on loan again, it just seems like excessive spending for players that cant get near our first team, to the detriment of the budget for "big name" players.
