July 31, 201411 yr Spurs signed Dier for £4m-£5m. Bloody fantastic deal. That's is pretty good coup. Homegrown aswell.
August 1, 201411 yr manure to sign vidal http://metro.co.uk/2014/07/31/arturo-vidal-passes-medical-tests-with-manchester-united-ahead-of-transfer-4816232/ sh*t Why are you worried ? we have a pretty damn good midfield ourselves. Even if they do sign Vidal our midfield will still be better.
August 1, 201411 yr Who the hell is Dier? According to Goal, he is the next John Terry..............a bit early to be comparing him to JT i think. Also, the young John Terry was already a world class defender. Edited August 1, 201411 yr by Scott Harris
August 1, 201411 yr Ah right - haven't been interested enough to follow their pre-season. I assumed it was to pander to American audiences who don't understand draws! Sorry, need to chime in here Beerqueen.. there is a reason why there are European brands sponsering European clubs to Play a tournament in the US. And that is money! With FFP in place and even before that these top clubs and others like Villa, Celtic, Valencia (and the list goes on) and that is because the sport is the fastest growing one in the US. And since the US has the most affluent sports culture than any other country says why they all come. It is all about clubs getting noticed in this environment with the idea that they are simply advertising their club. I grew up in NY and now live in Denver and I can guarantee you at 9am East coast time, 7am here in Denver, and more than likely 6am on the west coast bars/pubs are filled with people (ex pats and Americans) watching the English Premier League. I have spent many a mornings on a Saturday drinking Carlsberg pints at 8am and eating an English breakfast belly up to the bar at a Chelsea establishment for that matter. I am certainly sure there are plenty of places like Nevada Smith's in Manhattan which are packed wall to wall it people well before noon. It is your and other's attitudes that think that only the English are dedicated enough to watch the Premier League and can have a say. That elitist attitude is exactly why you do f**k all in any major tournament. And for the record here in Denver, I was at the Three Lions pub packed so much that people were on the sidewalks watching Italy beat England in the last Euro. And this is certainly not a small pub where maybe 30 heads can sit comfortably. Try well over 300 people! Ya see we spend good money to pay for cable packages, to travel abroad, to wake up at the wee hours of dawn to watch the matches live, to spending money on kits, kids gear, and/or whatever to provide an enormous revenue stream to English clubs. In fact I know people who spent well over $150 to see United play Roma here in Denver just last week in as you said a meaningless match. Do you do that when it actually counts during the season? Clubs line up to play here because it is a budding market one that is tired of American sports with their commercials and star players in and out of prison. We spend a sh*tload to see it and enjoy it just as much as your apparently privileged ass. That is why they come here and play B squads and charge the same if not more than what you pay to see the real thing. And yes we certainly know what a draw is...
August 1, 201411 yr That's is pretty good coup. Homegrown aswell. Doesn't count as homegrown. According to Goal, he is the next John Terry..............a bit early to be comparing him to JT i think. Also, the young John Terry was already a world class defender. He's nothing liike JT, typical Goal.com.
August 1, 201411 yr I'll believe those claims when Patrick Collins launches a spiteful vendetta against him.
August 1, 201411 yr Someone posted this comment on the Daily Mail's website about Steven Gerrard's slip. Couldn't have put it better myself. Craig, Sheffield, a day ago Can people stop calling what happened vs Chelsea a 'slip'? It wasn't a slip. A slip implies Gerrard was somehow unlucky. Anyone can slip. No. It was a miscontroll of the ball. He only slipped trying to make up for his mistake. He came into defense to receive the ball, took his eye off it and let it roll under his foot. It's there for everyone to see. It was a piece of bad technique that was the problem, not the slip. Let's call it 'Gerrard's miscontrol' because that's what it was. Article: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2709987/Steven-Gerrard-opens-worst-three-months-life-Liverpool-captain-reflects-Chelsea-slip-England-failure.html#article-2709987 Not just someone, Craig from Sheffield! Very glad to hear it though.
August 1, 201411 yr Doesn't count as homegrown. He's nothing liike JT, typical Goal.com. I thought with him being English he would still be classed as homegrown? Bit strange if an England international has to be registered as a foreign player. Not as much of a coup as I thought, still looks pretty promising though especially at that price.

To be homegrown you have to be training/playing in England for 3 years between 15 and 21. He's been in Portugal since he was 10 and is now 20, he's not eligible. On a somewhat related note though he is free to play for either Portugal or England, will be interesting to see who he picks should be be good enough for either. Can't go wrong really, he won't be starting any time soon though. Edited August 1, 201411 yr by Remodez

August 1, 201411 yr Real Madrid's plans to renovate the Santiago Bernabeu have been suspended by the Spanish High Court amid an investigation by the European Commission into alleged corruption. http://www.goal.com/en-za/news/4680/spain/2014/08/01/4997797/court-suspends-madrids-bernabeu-project The club's spectacular plans for the renovation of their stadium have been brought to a halt amid an investigation by the European Commission into alleged "illegal public help" {C}Real Madrid's plans to renovate the Santiago Bernabeu have been suspended by the Spanish High Court amid an investigation by the European Commission into alleged corruption.Madrid unveiled their proposals for the spectacular stadium in January, with the all-new Bernabeu to include a shopping centre complex and a hotel in an area to cover 12,250 metres adjacent to the ground - almost half of which is currently unoccupied land and would be given to the club as part of the agreement. In order to approve those plans, Madrid's government approved changes to the city's General Urbanisation Plan from 2011.However, the European Commission has opened an investigation into possible "illegal public assistance" by part of the government towards the club.A group of ecologists have also filed an official complaint claiming that Madrid reneged on a previous agreement to build an underground car park and a walkway giving access to the stadium in 1991."The club never fulfilled its part and ended up owing the government €2.8 million," a statement from the action group Ecologistas en Accion AEDENAT read. The Spanish High Court have decided that the European investigation means there are sufficient grounds to bring a halt to the €400m project.Madrid have 10 days to lodge an official appeal against the decision. Wouldn't have happened in Franco's day.
