Exaggeration of the day goes to:

Iago Aspas says his former Liverpool team-mate Luis Suárez has been “treated like a murderer” by Fifa after the Uruguayan bit Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup.

They are treating Luis like a murderer and not like a footballer,” he said. “There are murderers who pay less [for what they have done]. Not to let him be presented [by Barcelona], to train or to enter the stadium is too much.”

Strange signing that; wasn't he a midfielder that was converted to a LB that now plays as a CB? Bet he is very comfortable with the ball at his feet, IMO they could have signed better CBs for around that amount.

Considering they've been linked heavily with Jan Vertonghen, yes I'll agree it's an odd one especially as there's a good chance they'll be banned from signing anyone for the next three transfer windows.

Although the fact they've been able to invest £100m odd so far since the ban was suspended makes a mockery of it all anyway.

Last time i checked, murderers got jail time. Sometimes people need to think before they speak.

Like who? Prices are so inflated nowadays.

This Rodriguez signing surely pushes Di Maria or Isco out. Their profligacy is hilarious. Surely we should be feeding on the scraps.

I think we should be keeping a close eye on Real players at all times.  If this does push Di Maria into the open market, we'd be foolish not to consider it.  Remember a few seasons ago they changed managers and the new manager got rid of all the Dutch players the previous one had brought in?  Think those guys (Sneijder, Huntelaar, and Van Der Vaart?) all available for decent sums if I recall correctly.

How the f**k does a murderer get less than an 3-4 month ban of football? Even in Colombia murderers get more than that.

Off my head; Papadopolous, Benatia, Doria, Nastatic (City just bought Mangala?), Chiellini, Vertoghen + Koscielny (maybe around £25m) & Marquinhos (PSG need to sell). If their ban is enforced and Mathieu is their CB signing surely they are screwed. With their gung-Ho style, Champions league games will leave them exposed.

Are Chevvy in a spot of trouble?

PArt of General Motors and yes they're in financial trouble.  Had to receive big money grants from teh Government to stay afloat

Suppose they're banking on the association with one of the biggest clubs in the world, a bit like Adidas are, to help raise their own profile, and boost their own performance.

Not sure how well that one would go down

Fair play to James Rodriguez, during his presentation at Real a fan ran onto the pitch and hugged him before getting manhandled by security; James picks the lad up, gives him the football he was playing with and walks him back to the stand.

Seems to be a really likeable bloke.

Looks like Man City have bitten off more than they can chew with their Australian venture. I would not be surprised to see them pull the plug in a few years.

City came in, took over Melbourne (after being rejected by the present sky blue club, Sydney FC) and expected the fans and administration to shower them with adulation like the idiots in the sports media here.

They then proceeded to use Melbourne City as an incubator for New York City FC. First, David Villa was signed, and allowed to be loaned on a short-term basis to Melbourne City before being whisked off to America. Seems that Frank Lampard was to follow suit however....

The other A-League clubs and Football Federation Australia have rejected City's request for an exception for Lampard. The A-League, like the lower leagues in England, have limits on short-term loans. Each club is only allowed one short-term loan per season outside of injury replacements.

Yes, Manchester City thought they could waltz in and walk over and do as they please however the other clubs have told them in no uncertain terms where to go. As a result, they are stuck with the uncomfortable situation of having to put Lampard on ice somewhere until 2015. Today they revealed they are targeting Robert Koren as the club's marquee player which means the Lampard deal may be quashed.

In other news, Manchester City have signed Nissan as a sponsor for the "City Football Group" or whatever they call themselves. Too bad for them; the A-League's major sponsor is Hyundai and they will likely reject a competitor's advertising.  :laugh2:  :laugh2:

Let's all LOL at Man City

Yeah i'm sure City will shut down an entire football team because they couldn't get Frank Lampard to play there for 3 months.

Manchester United lined up in a 3-4-1-2 formation in their first pre-season match under van Gaal last night with Valencia and Shaw deployed in the wide midfield/wingback roles.

Interesting formation but we've seen it before first hand new managers coming in with grand ideas about formations and free flowing movement of players and then it just not working in the pace of the Premier League.

The three starting centre backs were Smalling, Jones, Evans.... Surely they're going to sign at least one new defender those three are stinking up the team with averageness.

Is anyone going to watch Real and Barcelona's pre-season games? I might give Barcelona a watch just to see how they set up, and how Suarez plays with Messi and Neymar; it could be very interesting.

Suarez is banned... He can't even go near the ground let alone have a friendly kick about.

He's buggered off back to Uruguay to avoid the media attention in Spain.

Let's just hope they keep winning big in pre season. VG then thinks they are great....then hopefully they get destroyed in the league. That would be just lovely.

Whatever Gaal had tried last night it worked. I mean 7 zip against LA is not that bad.

MLS football is pathetic though. So poor.

Remember Scolari blowing teams away early doors for us then having no idea how to fix it when it goes wrong. Let's hope this happens to Utd :)

van Gaal is no mug, I'm sure he already knows which areas he intends to strengthen.

Woodward is talking a good game again like he did last summer making bold claims such as United can break the world record transfer fee if they wanted blagh blagh blagh but we heard all this last summer and then they signed Fellaini for more than the cost of his release clause.... Given they can't offer European football you'll excuse me for remaining slightly cynical about their transfer targets right now.

Just under a month to go before the season starts you'd think they'd like to get a move on with any major targets or they could find themselves playing catch up before the season's even got going.

Zola,

I don't doubt LA or MLS is not in the same league as United. However, let's be honest here. United are the biggest club in England and are buying players soon. Money is no object. They are willing to pay whatever it takes to get players. Gaal is not an idiot as Moyes was. I don't think anyone of us should underestimate Gaal ability to buy top players and challenge for top places in the next season. At least, I feel that way.
