Thibaut Courtois

Featured Replies

Should of chucked Cabalerro in goal for penalties that seems to be his forte.

I thought so too. Maybe Conte doesn't know the strength of our players yet. I thought we were about to play extra time when he left Courtois on the field after full time.

Actually I think Courtois must have insisted on taking one of the first five penalty kicks.

Probably did but my personal opinion is that the coaching staff should have told him no.

As I say, it's just my feelings on it but I don't think your goalkeeper should be one of the first 5 takers in a shoot out.

Conte said Thibaut is one of the best takers of penalties in the team. That information is enough for me. Just missed this time.

I will hold my breath if he is allowed to take a penalty kick in a Champions league match.
FFS, he is the only one the whole team rely on in a shootout to save their blushes yet Coutois himself has a different ambition.

I don't get Courtois sometimes. He's one of the best 3 keepers on the planet, but sometimes he just seems to refuse to command his area and just hovers on the line. Drives me crazy.

This is a makeshift line today, something he is not comfortable with. Also the tussle with Luiz shouting at him? misunderstanding.  Courtois was just caught with a goal a few minutes and is unsteady. Ditto for Luiz and Rudiger. Hence both holding ground expecting the other to get the ball.

It's not a new thing though, he does it when we're not playing particularly well. It seems like it might be a confidence issue, which is weird considering the high pressure he played under at Atletico and then us. I'm just really hoping its something that can be knocked out of his game. If things aren't going great, that's the exact time we need him to step up and take control of his box.

The goalkeeper is not equal to the striker. If you make e miss, but score a goal later or earlier, its ok. Thibaut makes great saves and concedes stupid goals. With almost the same frequency. That's not reliable, sorry.

In Atletico, he has a monster cohesive defensive line in front of him. Even Peter Cech after he started for Arsenal lookedshaky pretty often behind their defensive line. But I do agree with your assessment that we want Tibo to step up and take control of his box. I do hope that this is something he learns and soon.

It's basically the only big flaw I see in him. If he can command better, I think he'll become the No. 1 in the world. He has ridiculous amounts of talent.

A couple times today, most notably wih Luiz, courtois didn't attack the ball.  Luiz is literally begging him to come get it and he wouldn't leave his line...forced a corner I think.

courtois needs to be a big boy and start commanding the box.  It's his, he owns it and he just has to have more bravado back there.  He doesn't seem like that type of person but he needs to get on with it otherwise he can never become top top class, because it's the one thing he lacks and it's a big one.  As far as shot stoppers though, he's certainly one of the best.

One of the top goalkeepers in the world at the moment, but he doesn't hold a candle to Cech in his prime.

Regarding him being one of the best in the world at the mo it says more about the standard of football today as opposed to 10+ years ago really, scary to think how many world class players were jammed into a bunch of teams back in the day, not many top top players in the game now :/

Thought he should have done better on the first goal today. Contract talks hindering business in hand perhaps?

I agree, can't help but think a Cech in his prime or even a De Gea or Lloris would have got to that to at least stop it going in.

Maybe being a bit harsh as it was right in the corner but just what my take on it was. I also thought he could have came out and cleared through everything for their third as the ball seemed to be in the air a long time.

Granted I did watch this yesterday night when I was tired and probably still raging and have been doing my best to forget everything other than Moratas performance since.

i still think he's a top class keeper but I just wish he could iron out one or two things and I think he'd be the best in the world!

De Gea makes more mistake's than Courtois, you just don't hear about them because it doesn't fit the narrative. Quite easily the most overrated keeper of the modern era.

I don't understand where this Top 3, one of the best GK's talk is all about. For me he is a liability. A GK who can't control his area doesn't deserve to be in top 10 GK's, let alone top 3. It isnt as if he is saving us day in and day out either. He is just average, that's all.

Lol, one of the best?

That's funny bro. The biggest teams in the world will rather have Him over Courtois any day. I think you are just trying to console yourself because we are stuck with Courtois and we cant get someone better for now except we are willing to pay crazy money.
