Ive seen even Butland and Pope's names being brought up during talk of potential upgrades, and that's before we mention many fans in the past have called for him to be dropped for Begovic then Caballero everytime he has a so so spell.

He gets a pretty tough ride here. He isn't perfect by any stretch, but he is an elite goalkeeper. Having seen Allison a few more times against Liverpool and for Brazil, I would rather keep Courtois.

June 29, 20188 yr I think part of the stick he gets is because much of the media wildly overrates Courtious, rating him as one of the top three keepers in the world. There was a time when he did look like he had the potential to be next great keeper but he failed to progress. Indeed, IMHO he was a better keeper 5 years ago than he is now. Good keeper, but he has too many flaws now to be classed as great.

Not a great but there are a handful of keepers that are an upgrade over him.

June 29, 20188 yr 10 minutes ago, Argo said: What are these many flaws he has out of interest? I can only think of 3 none of which are actually pertinent to his goal keeping ability though but her goes: he isn't particularly media savvy (occasionally says thing that may upset part of the fan base), he is gangly which means his movement doesn't look very agile He actually tries to save the ball in the most efficient way possible unlike other keepers he won't try and make reasonably simple saves look like worldies (cough cough De Gea) He does have a few areas (that he does seem to be working on) which he could improve distribution, command of his area and communication but I wouldn't call any of these flaws of his game and imo he is better at all 3 than the supposed best keeper in the league (De Gea)

For a guy of his size he's not that great when he's facing one on ones. His judgement of angles on his near post have let him down numerous times. However, I do admit I am comparing him to the pre head injury Cech. All round, he is nowhere near that level.
June 29, 20188 yr who do you guys rate more between alisson and courtois? I personally see them as being similar quality... I'd be happy to keep thibaut if he commits long term but I also wouldn't mind selling him if he's desperate to leave and bring in alisson. I just hope we don't end up losing thibaut and not getting alisson because the other "available" goalkeepers aren't that amazing

I just hope we don't end up losing thibaut and not getting alisson because the other "available" goalkeepers aren't that amazing Courtois. Knows the club, great at plucking balls out the air whilst being above average at every other goalkeeping skill. His saves usually end up in him having the ball if he can help it. Weak at distribution though. From what I saw of Alisson, his saves are more of those clutch, last ditch ones that goes back into play. He also likes the ball at his feet which is a nice trait to have but could also lead to something like the Neuer gaffe the other day.
June 30, 20188 yr If we manage to get Alisson in place of Courtois with cost under 20M, I'd say we done a pretty good job. Courtois couldn't pass the ball, although that's not a top priority for GK, we really need to improve our ability to play it out from the back.
June 30, 20188 yr Lots of rumours swirling about Courtois leaving this summer. Apparently the club are willing to sell because he’s in the final year of his contract and discussions over a renewal aren’t progressing. So sell now, get a fee and use the money for a decent replacement.
June 30, 20188 yr He has a good world cup until now, if he wants to leave then Real Madrid will probably go for him. We must demand a good offer.
June 30, 20188 yr His comments about his kids yesterday gave it away for me. He's going to go back to Madrid this summer. Not a lot of time to find a replacement. I don't think we will give Roma what they want for Allison.
June 30, 20188 yr Allison looks dodgy AF on his "best" youtube complications. Saves look awkward and often go back into the danger area.
June 30, 20188 yr Wouldn’t surprise me if a deal is already lined by Real. He has had plenty of opportunity to sign a new deal and he hasn’t so I think we can say that he’s off. Just a matter of the club getting a good replacement. I don’t mind too much. I don’t think the fans have ever really taken to him and while he has his qualities, he is a relic in goal keeping terms. Most of the modern top coaches wouldn’t have him in his team because he can’t play with his feet. My only concern would be how this effects Hazards contract renewal. Edited June 30, 20188 yr by JM7

Apologies for quoting myself but tonight there were yet more examples of the faults he has. Some ridiculously poor handling that almost cost a goal and yet again he was beaten on his near post.
