Juan Cuadrado to Chelsea .... Done!

Featured Replies

Everyone here seems to assume that Reus will/would be a hit on the right, but I've never even seen him play there. I've asked four different BVB fans on the internet since we were first linked with him and they all said he is vastly less effective on the right for them.

If nothing else, at least Cuadrado will be on his comfortable side while adjusting to the squad/league.

I think Willian was a similar case if I remember correctly. But people still flamed him after just 6 months in a new league and new position.

Salah looks like hes leaving,

This chap was good in the WC had a few excellent moments imo

Its only Romans money and hes got a lot of it

In Jose I trust.

could be just another made up rumor as well.

Whether we sign him or not, this is a really poor way to approach this or any future transfers. We've got FFP to worry about, and this affects the club entirely.

He doesn't even look very good in youtube compilations, and they are supposed to show the best of players. I'm not feeling this transfer at all.

Think of him as Yuri Zhirkov, otherwise known as the Russian Ronaldinho. A left-wingback who can play forward as a winger or a left back. I'm not really sure if this is what we need right now though.

Wow, only heard about this today and it's looking quite likely.

I must admit I've never heard of him, if he's an upgrade on Willian/Schurrle then go for it.

Reus will 99% never happen, he can pick where he wants and while we think we are an attractive destination (we are) there are other clubs that top us.

Had a few chats with people I know that follow serie a quite closely and they all rave about him. He would have moved to a bigger club sooner if he was a bit more prolific in front of goal. That's his main downside, pluses are his pace and crossing tho

He was, and I have no idea why he was never given credit for the switch. Schuerrle has been much less successful in doing the same.

Wait, what?

I don't agree with him implying that Cuadrado is better than Reus but I understand what he is saying.

It's very hard for a winger to impress in Serie A. The league just doesn't allow it due to it's style of play/defending. You have to be pretty good to stand out and despite what people think of Gervinho during his time in England, he's a pretty good player. His problem was finishing, which seems to have improved now, not passing, dribbling, work rate, etc.

Cuadrado would be an upgrade on Salah at least. If we can get 12 million for Salah and use that to pay half the Cuadrado fee then it might be a decent bit of business.

Yeah he is nothing like Zhirkov. You got that the wrong way around. Hes an attacking midfielder who plays mainly on the right or as a 10, who due to his work ethic and the fact that Fiorentina has f**k all in that position can play as a wingback in a pinch.

Yeah, that one confused me too. Serie A is terrible now, easily way below the quality of the other 3 big leagues. Gervinho is one of the best players in it for gods sake.

Italian league may not be a good league but it's well known for being more defensively orientated as opposed to other leagues which would make it harder for flair players to stand out. Reus stands out in a league that isn't defensive orientated but also has poorer quality teams.

Hopefully if this deal does happen then it is Salah going and not Schurrle.

You still sense Schurrle has something to offer Chelsea but just needs to regain some form and fitness.

Short of a mystical transformation I don't see Salah ever looking like a player who has much to offer the team let alone challenge for a first team place.

Could end up with two players for both wings capable of contributing significantly.

you should try and get in touch with the board mate, I'm sure they haven't considered your point at all...

This is the perfect scenario

We haven't had a natural right winger in God knows how long. I would prefer a left footer to add some balance with all our right footed AMs, which is why I would have liked to see Salah given more chances, but his technique is so bad he'll probably never be good enough. As for Cuadrado, initial thought was, overrated after a good world cup, but I'm slowly starting to like the idea of seeing him on the right here.

I know this really doesn't mean much but Bayern, Barca and Utd wouldnt have all be in for someone who is "not that good" last summer.

Mohamed Salah got more positive feedback on signing than Cuadrado and that was based on him scoring against us!  Although it was nice to see the Scousers crying because he chose us

Is he left footed?

No. He's very much right footed. I know I said I prefer a left footed winger, but I actually like our right winger being right footed. Provides some width to balance out Hazard cutting in on the left side. What I would like though is a left footed option to provide some variety, ideally someone who's also comfortable playing wide on the left, a cheaper version of Bale I guess.

No it wasnt. It was based on him being a talented footballer, costing 1/3 of the rumoured price it would take to get Cuadrado while being considerably younger at just 21 years of age when we signed him. This "We only signed him because he scored against us" really needs to stop.

I think he meant the Salah signing was well received on the forum because of his performance against us.

Despite knowing next to nothing about him, I am more than happy to gamble and see Salah go for him. He's bound to be better.
