Tammy Abraham

Eh? He as good as got an assist for our winner with the way he dragged Ruben Dias out of position to allow Kai Havertz space.

Not to mention his goal against Real Madrid, quality assist against Atletico.

I think Werner was an effective player this season and some of the criticism he gets (bar his finishing) is over the top.

However, he undoubtedly had a very poor FA cup final and a mediocre CL final.  I don’t think we can give him too much credit for doing his job as a striker which is making runs. That’s reminds me of the excuses we’d hear about Torres when he’d go on his regular 10+ game goal droughts.

Because the "excuses" for Torres were just that, the version we got wasn't even a top flight flight level. And I'm sorry but I simply don't agree with making runs being a simple basic, I mean literally running yes but to make the right runs at the right time to gain an advantage in our attack is anything but "easy" and requires very quick thinking, especially when the defender you're trying to outsmart is an elite level one like Ruben Dias.

If you look at our results and especially performance comparison with and without Timo (under Tuchel) starting the sample size is too big to be a coincidence. Is he an elite creator? No, is he ever going to be a cool as ice finisher? No but his pace and movement causes absolute nightmares for defenses, the former aspect of his game alone forces teams to drop their lines deeper and with it probably contributes to our improved defense.

Mount's assist, Werner couldn't run anywhere else but towards the left side anyway, had he ran towards Kai or had he came deep towards Mount in that counter it would have been amazingly stupid for his part...

@Gol15 No problem, mate! I was the one kinda off-topic so no wonder you got it mixed up.

I do think we all have to be careful so this doesn't become another Jorginho x Kante x Kovacic never ending debacle.

Werner and Tammy both bring different things to our side and so far in terms of team play I like better what I see when Werner is on, even with his personal failings which I'm hoping he'll improve (especially that bloody first touch).

If/When Tammy improves his main weaknesses like aerial play, holding up the ball, being a bully/nuisance to the defenders in general instead of being frustrated by them, then I can see him getting that 1st spot, even if we have to adapt tactics/players again. But so far it seems Tuchel doesn't see enough to put him there or it could be he's not improving because he's not getting regular football here. Either way I will trust Tuchel on this one, both because he's proved to be a capable manager and he does have confidence in young players if they're good enough.

It's hard debating without actual games happening... Come quickly season!

Great idea, sell the only senior striker we currently have.

Seems clear to me we are actively trying to sell him as even an article about us signing a defender ends about Tammy being available for sale.

The club probably see the problem with that, too.

Then again the rumour may not be true.

Or we've agreed terms with a replacement striker already, who's going to wear the #9 shirt. Poor bugger.

Selling before having a replacement lined up and ready to sign is something we have been doing for a while now. It's such a risky policy and can put us in a position where we end up panicking and buying players like Drinkwater.

Maybe we do have a replacement lined up that we just haven't been made aware of.

How many of us discussed the possibility of signing Koundé prior to a few hours ago?

I hope for our sake that we do.

If i was a betting man (Which occasionally i am) Chelsea even proposing the idea of selling TA, now OG has also gone, leads to me to surmise, something nearly concrete is in the offing, we aint that stupid?
We have panic bought before, but we did have alternatives, Maybe TT knows Werner is going to smash it this season....

Where? Haven't really seen it.

Starting today against Bournemouth so good chance to impress for Abraham. Only pre-season but for him it's an important opportunity.

Fluked everyone under Lampard initially; juju wore off and now he looks like he’s found his level. That isn’t Champions of Europe level; like Bambi on ice. To top it all off, his work rate and effort was always gonna be his ultimate nail in the coffin. You can get away with being turnip if you work your bollocks off, he doesn’t. Ship him off to another team; as a player, he’s lazy and forgettable.

Tammy is not good enough,as far as I'm concerned if we don't bring in a striker who knows how to score we will be lucky to make top 4 this season.

I stand by saying Broja has a lot to offer us.

He does, however he’s starting his career playing in the most difficult league in the world. It’s a hell of a burden to front a team which is essentially expected to be winning the title this year. That’s the reality. If Chelsea do not sign a world class number 9 I am putting it on the line, it’s a top 4 struggle and Tuchel won’t be here for 22/23.

If we struggle for top four then that will mean Tuchel isn't any better than Lampard (domestically), infact it would make him worse.

Comfortable top four has to be minimum requirement and I think it will happen.

I really thought our players underachieved at times last season. The Champions League was pretty much faultless, but in the domestic competitions, I thought the players didn't reach the highs they should have reached. This group shouldn't have been involved in a top 4 scrap. We should at minimum have pulled away like United did and we should never have allowed Liverpool to catch back up and overtake us.

I agree with people who are saying that Abraham isn’t good enough to be the main striker, he quite clearly isn’t.

But with Giroud gone, is it really a good idea to sell Abraham? Unless we sign a striker.

With a new striker, we’d have the new man as main striker, Werner back up, then Broja. There’s also Havertz if needed, it’s a great variety to play with tactically.

I don’t think there is any room for Abraham sadly, Tuchel clearly doesn’t rate him.

Agreed. Us, United, City and pool should be locks for the top 4

Pretty sure Tammy wont go until late in the transfer window, if he's leaving at all. If Arsenal is anywhere close to reach an agreement with us, I doubt he'd still play in pre-season games. Why train a player who's destined to leave? Ideally, even if the big name striker is coming, we need 2-3 in the reserve to manage the schedule this season.

That's it in a nutshell for me. We can be faily certainly that, even with no Giroud and no signings up top so far, Tammy would be behind Kai, Timo, Pulisic and Mount in being used as the central striker (or rather false 9) and that is without considering Broja.

For both Tammy's sake and our own to get the best fee possible I hope he moves on soon.

Fair to ask that, especially with Baka being (rightly) exiled.

However when you see that he has also been using, in not order in particular, JCS, Maziaga, Baker, Gallagher, RLC, Barkley, Ugbo, Sterling, Baba Rahmen, Zappacosta and Drinkwater, most of if not every single one of them have little to no chance of being anything more than Emersons if that this season, you could also say Tammy's minutes and usage means nothing.

My hope is Chalobah and Broja are kept around, but they could well be lumped in with that group too.
