You see players emerge like this regularly, like Vlahovic at Fiorentina. I'm not saying we should have signed Vlahovic, but it's these types of players we should be looking out for, not players like Lukaku who we know has huge weaknesses and is clearly not suited to how we want to play. I completely agree that eventually you need to ask them to do more. I am not sure about Vahlovic at all. We need our st to be able to do everything. He need to keep the ball, link up, get assist and also score (fans also want him to press hard).
January 27, 20224 yr We relied on Tammy to score in his first PL season after he managed to bang in 25 in the Championship and in the first half of that season under Lampard he scored 11 goals in 18 games played and had 3 assists as well which was great. Then he fell off after being overplayed and finally got injured because of it in the second half of February, which slowed down his season significantly. Tammy at that age, around 22 years old was comparable to G.Jesus and Rashford, specially if we consider that he became the first option without prior experience and exposure in the highest level, G.Jesus and Rashford had the time to grow in their respective squads but Tammy scoring for us as soon as possible was a must for us. Then last season before Lampard got sacked he scored 6 goals in less than 10 starts and then Tuchel didn't even play him 2 full games in total if we look at his minutes and nobody managed to score more than 6 goals in the league despite the fact that some attackers had a lot more minutes than Tammy. Our rivals show more patience for their strikers and work with them more but then again they have more stable managers as well, Even if we look at Firmino, he scored only once 15 goals in the PL and that was in his 3rd season while Tammy did it while being younger and in his first season.

If the player in question does all of the 4 to the level Hazard did then they can by all means have a pressing exemption and the system tweaked accordingly.

If any player can do all 4, they can just stand still during the defensive phase and I wouldn't hold anything against him

The problem is It is so difficult to find such player and most of the time they are already a superstar.

March 8, 20224 yr Seeing more and more just how moronic it was to sell him, loan Borja and end up stuck with one striker, who cant be arsed....brilliant planning.

Its nothing to do with form, its the fact we went in to the season with only 1 striker, and allowed a proven goalscorer in Tammy to leave, while also allowing a great young prospect to go out on loan. We handicapped ourselves in the striker position going all in on Lukaku, who most people recognised was a gamble, had Werner in reserve who cant score and possibly playing others out of position. A ridiculous mistake.

A ridiculous mistake. With hindsight, our choices may have been wrong, but Abraham would not have been my number one choice as anointed saviour in our set-up. Chances are he would have struggled as well. Sometimes players are just more suitable in one league, but not another. Mind you, I'm delighted for him he's doing well. I'm curious how he adapts to ltalian day to day life. Edited March 9, 20224 yr by Valerie
March 9, 20224 yr It will be interesting to see if Tammy still gets an England call up and if so how he plays for England.
March 20, 20224 yr Scored twice so far in the Rome derby, absolute cracking 2nd goal, go Tammy...... 'Tammy tre punti'
March 21, 20224 yr The Roma Derby, Sarri vs Mourinho. Tammy delivers, the first a freak goal that hits the crossbar and falls on to his pelvic region and deflects in, the 2nd a decent move and he gets onto a cross and tucks it away nicely. Not sure with our VAR and Tammy's long limbs whether they would have conspired to find an offside if it was here. He had a good chance for a third yet completely mish*t it. Roma did score a third from a decent shot by Pellegrini.
