James Rodriguez

It's a shame we couldn't keep the Oscar deal under the radar, as Real will be asking for a crazy fee knowing we just received 60m.

If James asks to be sold, then Real Madrid might not be in a position to ask for something absolutely astronomical. If we get 60 million for Oscar, it might just be enough to get James. Yes, I know 60 million is pretty insane money, but if selling just one player would cover the fee, then it would probably be well worth it.

not gonna lie, i rarely watch james play.

how good is he?

what are his strengths and weaknesses?

would he be another ozil and put in mediocre effort?

My favorite player in the world, if we do sign him I'm changing back to my James profile picture.

On how good he is, he is the best number 10 in the world imo. Decent out wide.

His strengths and weaknesses all revolve around the same thing really, he is extremely direct (Hence why he's generally at the top of stats like key passes, etc despite not playing often for Madrid). Great when it pays off which to be fair is the majority of the times but painful when it doesn't. Shouldn't be a problem for a counter attacking team like this though.

He works very hard off the ball so no danger of him putting in minimal effort.

Makalele was a real Madrid reject, I would have been more than happy to have broken our transfer record on him.

Good point. Just can't stand that club is all.

I personally would love to have James here.. Quality player, would help out a ton by being able to play out wide or in the middle

Is there no reason we cant sign 2 world class players? I'd prefer Sanchez but if James is available, give them £60m and be done with it in January, then spend the money we'll get from the new Nike deal in the summer to get Verratti.

chelsea and any of the top English sides have serious money thanks to the TV deal and their sponsorship deals, we can easily afford 2 world class players in one window if we wanted.

James has same strenghts as Frankie. Great shot and great range of passing. Pace is a problem for him which is even a bigger minus in the Prem but he is very smart.

Doesn't strike me as a Conte player which makes me believe we are not even after him but who knows.

If the price was right, 60m tops, I'd take him.

Hes a better player right now than Willian and Pedro and can still improve under the right conditions, either that or he could do a Di Maria and look average leaving Real.

At least with him you would hope he would perform to his best since he's used to the league (Unless it's Torres!!)

All comes down to who Conte thinks fits in best and if those players actually want to come here.

that, and also he would fit the RW position better than James

yeah you can change it back, but this time in a chelsea shirt

also, cheers for that description, sounds like something we been lacking for a good while. by the sounds of that he could link up well with hazard and costa, you think?

is he an improvement on willian and pedro? yes, probably. he's very much a ball to feet player though so if we are looking for a player who can run in behind then there are better potential options if we are about to spend a record fee on a player.

I don't think he's world class though- he's extremely talented but he has it all to do to prove he belongs in that company.

the best no.10 in the world doesn't watch 120 minutes of a champions league final from the bench. he is far from that at the moment.

he's done it in france and in portugal but I'd say he's disappointed in spain and lets face it, they bought him on the back of a few games in the summer of 2014.

I think it would be a fairly risky transfer. no doubting his ability though.

£75m for an RM bench warmer? Granted he is a talent but at that price and moving to a pacier and more physical league, am not sure on this one.

Maybe a loan with an option to buy but even that probably unlikely.

I see him as a luxury player of sorts, a bit like Ozil who will shine on a sunny day against a Watford but when the chips are down against a top 4 side I could see him making minimal impact.

He is a better footballer than Pedro and Willian, no question but the way we play we require our wide men to get up and down the flanks which isn't a trait Rodriguez possesses. In a Mata role he'd be sublime and no doubt better than the special Juan in that role but it's a role we don't play with anymore.

I'd much rather a Sanchez sort who would slot right into our way of playing.

That being said I'd still take him.

Ideally, it would be better to get James on loan till summer with an option to buy. Not sure if Madrid will agree though.

There's no doubt he's a major talent but I wonder if he's mentally strong enough to make it here. He was an absolute beast for Colombia in the WC'14 and looked pretty good early on for Real. For whatever reason Zidane doesn't rate him but that doesn't mean he's not good enough to play for us, because he clearly is.

Ultimately it's up to Conte to make a choice. I'll trust his judgment.

Daily Mail also on the case now. They think James is allowed to leave and that Jorge Mendes is now brokering a deal. Rodriguez prefers us apparently.

Sorry to change the subject, but did someone question Pedro's pace??

Yes, I was starting to think it was only me who thought he was very quick.

If we get him fine, but I'm not keen on breaking our transfer record for some Madrid reject.

Yeah, that Barca reject at Arsenal is awful.

Really hope we don't get him. A really terrible waste of money.

You're kidding? He has the best goal/assist to game ratio in La Liga and he has a tremendous left foot which would excel on the right of the 3 where he can also play. Brilliant player.
