Antonio Conte - Now Officially Manager

Featured Replies

When Jose arrived he went out and bought Paulo and Ricardo to ensure his defensive strategy was supported in the team.  I expect Conte to do something similar and bring in at least one defender who knows his methods to help implement them.  I think RA will spend money on at least two or three players, but do hope that promoting some of the youth - Traore, RLC, Brown, Solanki, Tomori, Miazga... - will also be prioritised.

Well he is definitly up against it now. Lets see if he can play with the big boys. Manchester is going to be crazy for the next few years.

In a way Pep and José starting at Manchester and the associated media circus could take some off the heat/pressure away from Conte, almost in the way that Pochettino flew under the radar at Spurs. Hopefully less pressure given the horror show we've just had, but at the same time, competition for top 4 will be incredible

Leicester City, Man City, Man Utd, Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool, Us, West Ham (!?). Should be an interesting season...

I feel that conte will get some heat form the media. He's pretty controversial manager but not as crazy as Jose.

I feel that Pep will have tough time at PL while Jose will be on fire this season - if he ends up at MU.

Spours will probably improve too so we need to be at our best from the start.

How long did it take Conte to win the rebuild and win the league with Juve? Was it one season rebuilding and then three straight titles?

Straight away. Juve ended 7th in 2010-11 season. Conte took over for 2011-12 season and won the league without losing a single game.

Arsenal are finally looking to spend about £100m this summer as well. If they get 3 quality players they will have a squad to rival the both the mancs.

I dont think spurs will come close to a 4th place. They will be fighting dippers and hammers for europa league places.

We are going to be the only unknown this season. We can end up in beither of those groups depending upon our transfers.

I would be happy with 4th. Anything above it and Conte will rise in my eyes. Also depends on the kind of signings we make.

Getting back into the top 4 within a season would be massive. Ideally, we'd want to contend for the title, but realistically I think aiming for a top 4 finish would be a good starting point for Conte and the club.

Even if he narrowly falls short of that aim at the end of the season we need to persist with him. This is going to be a long-rebuild and if Conte can get this basket case up to scratch in the space of the season he'll be highly regarded by everyone here.

Man to think we had everything last year. Best coach, league champions, great foundation to build on....... now we will be the silent outsiders. How the tables change in a year...... sigh

Quite glad that "up North" will be taking a lot of the media's attention.  Also, Jose will always love having a dig at Arsene, so that'll drag him into the madness too.  I think Conte will be very interesting.  WHo will he sign, who will he play, what formation, etc.  Exciting times.  Not sure what Spurs will be like next season

So many PL clubs, if you believe the press, are going to be spending huge sums of money, you just wonder who all the "world class" players are that are out there to sign ?

Agents and lawyers sound like the first batch of 'winners' to me ...

I think the key to the new season will be how well Conte manages with the playing resources we already have. Leicester and Atletico Madrid are the models to follow. Both have a manager who extracts more for the team than the sum of the individual parts. I hope Conte is cut from the same cloth, and it is encouraging that he seemed to be exactly that when he was at Juventus.

Does anyone know Conte's record in the "big" games? Obviously not quite the same in Italy as it is here but is he good when it comes to beating rivials?

I think to stand a chance against Pep, Jose, Klopp etc, he's going to manage the big games well.

Very very average to be honest.

Got knocked out by Napoli and Roma in the cup for two years running.

Also dont think he ever won the super cup, although he might have taken them lightly to be fair.

The big alarm bell is his debacle against galatasray in the CL. he failed to qualify from a group of Real, Juve, Gala and Copenhagen.

He also frequently lost to Milan, Inter, Roma in the league too.

We can pretty much assume that Chelsea will get only 3-6 points from available 18 in fixtures against United, City and liverpool. As guardiola, Jose and Klopp are all great at big games.

Pretty sure he went unbeaten in his first season? Therefore never losing to them that year.

In his second year in the league he lost to Roma once, Inter once, AC once and Sampdoria twice. In his third he lost to Fiorentina once and Napoli once.

Saying he 'lost frequently' to big teams is not true.

Given the managers that will be operating in the league from next season, I'd be delighted with a top 4 finish.

If we want to push on though, we have to have a good summer and get business done quickly like back in summer 2014. I'm hoping not just as a Chelsea fan but as an Irish man too, that Italy and Conte crash out of the Euros early doors and hes at Cobham ASAP to start working with the players and on his own transfer targets.

Context matters.

We are getting a downgrade from Jose, who seldom lost a big game to Conte who loses big games often. It's fair to describe his losses as "frequent".

Either way, we should not count on us doing well against Jose, guardiola and klopp. They are far better big game managers.

Context? Okay here is context.

We lost 9 games in the league games in half a year with Mourinho this year against big teams and small. Conte lost 7 league games in three years at Juve.

We are upgrading on a dated manager who seldom won a game towards the end and ripped the sole out of Chelsea.

Lol dated manager. Last year where he won at a canter has already become dated.
