Watching that re-run is great. It is like a watered down version of the 1970 Leeds cup final! More games like that and the punters would happily pay the prices and I'll say again, credit to Clattenburg for letting the game flow and handling the players (and coaching teams) well which couldn't be easy in that atmosphere with so much going on. If we had lost I would be gutted but knowing we finished off their dreams, I could watch that again & again.

 

What a shame Clattenburg wasn't in a similar mood to "let the game flow" when he sent off two of our players against United at the Bridge a few years back (for much lesser offences than those he let pass last night).

He's there to enforce the rules of the game, not to just on a whim let blatant fouls go unpunished because he's feeling in a lenient mood. His refereeing arguably made things worse, because it made the Spurs players think they could get away with ever more violent conduct and led to things boiling over completely at the end.

So where's the consistency in officiating? Compare Jamie Vardy's very tame red card against West Ham the other week. He wouldn't have even conceded a free kick last night.

Yeah, it is the inconsistency that we all hate and get frustrated by. All I know is that was by FAR the best game I have watched all season and it's just a shame there aren't more like that.

That's really my point. I don't mind a game being officiated like that, just so long as it's every game and every referee, and we can go to Anfield next week, kick everything above grass and expect similar lenient treatment.

 If Diego had behaved like those animals just imagine the uproar, it will be interesting to see the punishments. Walker flicking snot at Diego, what a repulsive little man, Essien would have loved to have played against him.

Fantastic spirit in the second half, and I reall yhope we see more of that.  Ivan, for as woeful as his performance, at least looked bothered for the whole 90.  Eden, just a class act, and if this is him fit and happy then i hope that we keep him fit and happy at Stamford Bridge next season.

 

Interestingly, for me, was the difference that the commentators portrayed the Spurs player's actions as opposed to say Costa.

 

To a person, they have at least said that the eye gouging should be dealt with and that Dembele has likely played his last game of the season.  However, Rose and Dier and Walker all got off pretty lightly.  Maybe a "oooh that was high and late, and I've seen those be red in the past."  But that was it.  No constant replays whatsoever.  Then Lamela's "stamp" *he trod on his hand, certainly) I hear one commentator say "if you stay on teh ground, then that's to be expected!"  However, when Costa stood on Skyrtel (was it him?) they were replaying ad-nauseum and you even had J Redknaap going on about "if I was Man City I'd be right on the pone to the FA tomorrow..."

Then you've also got Rose pushing folk about at the end, including shoving a 69 (nice) year old Hidink to the ground!  I can only think they are getting away with it because they aren't foreign?

I wonder if the F.A will do the right thing for once. Dembele and Lamela are surely banned, and if Walker did flick snot, some say blood ( haven't actually seen it to be honest ), then he is surely going to get a ban too. Rose is another that shouldn't get away with it, his recklessness caused a 70 year old man to fall over which could have caused him serious injury.

 

Dembele should be looking at a ban longer than 3 games in my opinion. I personally think Dembele should get a 5 game ban at least. And if Walker did flick snot / blood at Costa then that should be treated like Suarez biting Ivanovic. He should get a 7-10 game ban for that, it's disgusting. Rose should also receive a 3 game ban for shoving Hiddink over.

 

The F.A are absolute sh*te though, they will probably only ban Dembele for 3 games and charge both clubs for failing to control their players, even though our players weren't the ones out of control.

I was properly gutted last evening but, even with the distance provided by just a day, it's clear we lost the plot after half time. Someone needed to say "calm down and defend your lead" to our lads but they were fired up and couldn't be held. It was as bad as Palace v LFC in that sense. The spirit was a refreshing change as we haven't always had it, but it has to be controlled. It leaves a bad taste to think of the melee in the tunnel and Guus being knocked over. No matter what happened, it feels like a slightly shoddy end to a pretty great season.

Being gutted aside, it was good to see CFC making an impressive fightback and Claudio and LCFC winning the title. It still feels unreal...

Not one player seemed to keep their head and lead  by example. 

It's all very well having a young & upcoming team, but irrelevant of who that team may be, it's at these times when you need 2 or 3 older, experienced players to calm things down when everyone appears to lose the plot!.

That's well put. It was as if the confidence gained this season was brittle when put to a final test. The media have hyped Spurs for the past month as being cool under pressure but the players felt the pressure and didn't cope. The group of players had to have fight about them but they took unhealthy aggression onto the pitch, particularly after half time. Perhaps, despite what Poch must have said (calm down!) the players felt assertion had worked and produced two goals?

You lose a title over a season so last night was only do or die because of our variable performances this year.

is anything being said/done about his coming on the field during a player scuffle? IMHO that was totally bush league - I thought I was watching a London Derby, but it turned out to be a Hockey match - that match was a great advertisement for the the NHL

As much as it pains me, credit must go to Tottenham for building the hungry young squad that they have and they will surely be there or thereabouts next season. By contrast, most of our first XI should all be wondering about their futures. Some of our players simply look past it (Ivanovic), some haven't clicked (Pedro), and for quite a few, I just don't know what they contribute any longer.

Where has that fight been all season? The club has got a lot of work to do.

I think many will to some extent agree with this. I doubt if it will ever be our way to build a very young team an American two seasons to get to the right level but there is no doubt we need to rebuild.

Just watching athletico and seeming how well Luiz plays for them and even Torres shows how much we've let slip through our fingers the past few seasons and how we need to pick up in attitude.

Our last title was with the benefit of hindsight won at huge cost.

Glad we showed some fight, despite how poor we were for the first half of the game. There's nothing worse than losing to them at home and assisting in the title chase at the same time. Hazard finally started to play, with 4 games to go in the season.
