Chelsea fined £375,000 for failing to control players against Tottenham

Featured Replies

You saw blue shirts there pushing and shoving. I did. We've done it before. Hence the fine. I think it is pretty simple.

Pushing and shoving after terrible tackles or provocation, I saw nothing that doesn't happen in many games that goes completely unpunished. But you were the one who thought 6 match ban for dembele was ok because it was against Costa so I suppose we shouldn't be surprised by your strange logic once again.

Going back at the last incident, before Spurs, they might have said to the club: Next time this happens, ANYTHING happens, you will get a hefty fine. Do you understand? We understand, sorry.

Any chance of that?

Bit like the no tolerance policy in school. A bully beats the sh*t out of you and you both get expelled

You don't think players went overboard in that game?!? They did, we did. It could be described as ugly.

And don't turn your back to Costa and what he does. He is the common nominator to most 'incidents' happening in our games. He is not playing, usually no incidents.

Our lads reacted. They did and not in a small way either. Look at Willian, look at Costa. You don't need to do that.

Of course we didn't go bloody overboard, we were being booted all over the pitch. It's very odd how you seem happy to point at costa being the instigator so the opposition should be treated lenuently yet not happy to say Tottenham were the instigators against us so we should be treat leniently.

It's for the group tussles which occurred, the yellow cards were treated separately.

Starting or retaliating, the end result is the same thing which is a failure to control players no matter how justified it may be. Our players weren't entirely innocent either, Fabregas was the instigator of the huge brawl at the end by all accounts.

Your right, we should just have accepted the kicking we were getting, that would have been great.

Hmmm... 375k is what we got. Could have lived without it.

Personally I loved the heat in the game. One of bright spots in our season that game. A proper derby. However it is against the rules. You break them, you get fined. I'm 100% sure we are told to control our players.

Say what you will about Jose, he would have been yelling from the rooftops about every single Spurs foul, and pointed out all the times we've been punished for similar or lesser offences. If you don't stand up to the FA, they just take the p*ss even more.

I really am struggling to make sense of this, perhaps someone can enlighten me ?

How on earth has a referee who totally failed to control this game been deemed fit to referee the Uefa Champions League Final and the FA Cup Final ?

We had 3 players yellow carded, Spurs had 9 yellow cards and were extremely lucky not to have had up to 5 players red carded, but we get the higher fine, can anyone explain that ?  I don't accept the fact it's we have 'previous' because so do Spurs, but they have all been dealt with and both teams were fined accordingly at the time, that should have been the end of the matter.

How on earth Pochetino has gone unpunished for not only leaving the technicl area, but also running onto the pitch and manhandling one of our players is anyones guess. The whole thing stinks and I really wish the club would appeal the decision.

Big part of the reason why the FA don't like us  ...  we're reaping what he sowed...

Agree, would rather our players showed some fight and didn't take any cr*p than fear risking a fine, screw the F.A, I wouldn't let their heafty fines take the heart out of the game.

Funny that Ferguson's years of haranguing officials and the FA hasn't backfired on United since he left.

The fine is big, for both clubs. But if the clubs are told to control themselves beforehand and they have agreed to do so the penalty is right. Ref didn't handle the game well but every player knows if you start to push and shove you might get fined. No one has to do it even if your opponent kicks you.

So that means every club should get fined in almost every game then. There is pushing and shoving going on all of the time.

If they are told specifically to control themselves.

So clubs only need to control their players if they are specifically told to? Otherwise they are free not to control them?

You sound like the FA wriggling around to justify inconsistent and illogical punishments.

i think there is a difference between a bit of pushing and shoving and the several brawls that occurred during this game. Especially the one at the end of the match.

  • 1 month later...

Fine has been reduced to £290,000 for us and £175,000 for Tottenham. Both are reductions of roughly 22%. Outrageous that our reduced fine is still almost 30% higher than Spurs' original fine.

Not to mention, there has never has been and never will be punishment for Lamela's hand trampling and Walker's snot throwing.

I'm still upset about that game. Above all I'm upset at Clattenburg.
