Said this ages ago but someone here said he can’t be taught that finish chances. 

I can remember Ian Wright working with Defoe & you could see improvements in his game

Looks like the real fans were right eh? Misses loads to score a few. What is it 2 or 3 only with his feet? Not good enough really is it.

Since Batman is not trusted sign a new number 1 and put morata as the back up. Not good enough to start.

Big surprise. Batman is a good finisher. Not good enough for conte though. Baka is though. Seem strange to anyone else. Bet llorente would have played more.

Sad to see the performance today. Now I'm worried. A striker that does not believe in himsef is useless. I think he need the competition he had with Bat. Bring in a real good striker in January to compete with him. He for sure got the speed and clever placement of a quality striker.

He does everything right...except shooting....he can't do that.

Shame really, it's a rather important trait for a striker.

Why does he always shoot straight at the keeper? Surely it can't be that hard to place the ball? The few times he tries to place the ball he shanks it wide.  Really frustrating! We will win feck all with finishing like that.

Dont think people are writing him off, just that while he may do 99% of things right (positioning, running the channels, running behind the defenders, timing of the run, closing down), his finishing is downright atrocious. If this was a one-off then fans would not be in such an uproar, but for a main striker, his finishing is just welll... 

We NEED a better 2nd striker (someone who has a good all round game and goal scoring ability - someone like Werner or Belotti). Who can come in and release the pressure off morata. 

Looks like he is thinking too much about his hot wife and bonking her all the time rather than finishing easy one on one bench the guy for two or three matches let Michy start can't be worse than him.

the thing is if we want a second great striker, the fee will be 80 million £ minimum !!!

It could be that he's just never before had the pressure of being the main man and the number of games he's been playing...

Another striker Conte trusts to take some of the responsibility is crucial at this point, by the looks of it. 

The problem is who...? Who's available right now that is a realistic option.

Seems all the good ones cost 80-90+ million these days...

And there's this Boakye guy. At least he'd play the last one as it would probably be one of 'his signings'.

 

Vardy been mentioned but very very unlikely he'd be let go. And he'll cost huge for a player that old.

He's a good predatory finisher, not too much all round game though and not really up to Chelsea levels. (Another one who scores more with his head than his feet :| )

Injuries taken their toll, not near the same player plus still dodgy fitness and durability.

I do think once he starts converting chances he will continue to do so. He just needs to put a few chances in a row away, and I think the confidence will be brimming.

The guy just needs to improve on finishing with his feet, especially on 1 v 1's. When you are the main striker of a club like ours you have to finish those kinds of chances. 

He's doing everything right, except finishing. I think it's more to do with a psychological factor, a striker has to be cool headed and confident in order to put away chances regularly. I think when he messed up his first 1v1 early in the match it kept playing in his head and by the time he wasted the one at the very end his self belief was completely shattered.

The thing is, he's capable of scoring some outstanding goals and yet time and again he fails to put away the ones any quality striker should. I don't think he was a guaranteed first choice and go-to scorer before joining Chelsea so that's a new role for him with an added pressure of delivering goals on a regular basis. I don't know if I'd posted this earlier but it is worth watching again, for those who have doubts about his technical skill.

Can't recall the last time I cried out loud during a game and everytime it involved the same player! Just lost for  words - really poor finishing. Can only hope they work on it and he improves but you can see why Real Madrid let him go.

 

He was frustrating last night, but it was just one of those days. On another day he’d score 2.

I think it's easy to suggest bats would be the better choice right now but when I was at the Bournemouth game I honestly thought he was pretty bad, he never got himself in the positions Morata did last night. It's likely that Michy would've scored from that position last night because he does not miss as often it seems, except, I don't think he would've been able to have made the same runs. Both players could learn from each other and I hope they do.

Poor game from Alvaro but on the plus side, at least he is getting into those positions in the first place. Missing three/four great chances against anyone in the league is frustrating but especially against Le Arse makes it even more so.

I hope he puts in the extra effort on the training ground to improve his finishing and more importantly that we stick with him.... if his decision making and finishing improves, we will have a world class striker in my opinion.
