“Sometimes I go home, put the game on and think: ‘How can I miss that?’ It affects you; it also affects you to know your career also depends on the opinion of journalists, fans, directors, and sometimes they’re not really qualified to judge. In my position, what matters is goals. ‘Did he score? No? Una mierda de partido [a sh*t game].’ They don’t know the movement, everything you’ve done. Your life can change in a moment, depending if the ball goes in. In a week, I went from people shouting, ‘Leave Madrid!’ to scoring against Sporting and then, ‘Hey, saviour!’ You can’t think you’re God when you score an important goal or the worst player around when its going badly.”

He has missed 6 gilt edge chances in the last 2 games. I am at the stage of dreading him getting another chance with his feet. Anytime he has anytime to think he seems to be petrified.

Sorry state of affairs when our 1st choice striker is probably the least clinical shot taker on our team.

Who would want him to have another 1 on 1 in the next game?

Who would trust him to take a penalty?

Who would have confidence in him digging us out of a hole in a champions league knock out game?

I like a lot about his play, but I really don't have any confidence in his mentality. Wasn't their talk about his mentality and mental strength before he joined us? Seem to remember something about Buffon having to give him some pep talks.

Just seems mentally fragile. And that is not something we can carry in a first choice striker at this level.

Not sure he can put this right on the training pitch. Replicating a big game atmosphere on a 1v1 situation is near on impossible. This is something he has to play his way out of,  hopefully he'll continue to make the runs and the goals will eventually follow. The part of his game he can do something about is his going to ground very easy, he has put doubt in the mind of the referee and now not getting could he is due. My own thoughts are we have probably signed a very good number two striker who ultimately doesn't have the mentality to shoulder the burden of being the main provider.

Let's hope Conte speaks to him about this.

If he has a nerve problem when having time to make decisions then instil in him a robotic finish, one toucb hit low.

Football365.com had a funny quote on Alsonso:

He turned up as a poacher to give Chelsea their lead. The suspicion is that Chelsea’s Spanish left-back is a better finisher than their Spanish striker.

I think he need the competition he had with Bat. Bring in a real good striker in January to compete with him.

This is the problem for me. We put all our eggs in one basket. We overspent on an unproven striker and didn't buy anyone else, just in case.

Don't tell me Michy was meant to be our second choice striker, Conte had him for a whole season last year, if he didn't rate him why is he still here ? It really is an appalling situation.

How can you enter into such a season with so much football to play, as Champions of England, with one unproven striker and another you don't rate ??

The only way out of this is to either play Michy and give him the same opportunity and time frame to impress as Morata has had. Leave Morata on the bench to contemplate his future and work harder.

Or buy in new stock.

The sad thing about last night is we seen the best of Morata.....up until it mattered most, the finish. His movement off the ball into space is a dream for players that are looking to pass into space for those runs but his finishing is Sunday League level at best. He could and SHOULD have had back to back hat ticks with the chances hes had in the last two games.

I hate saying it but if that was Harry Kane last night we'd have won by 4 or 5 goals. I still have faith in him, just about but he has to start scoring some of those chances hes making for himself, if he scores in a run of 3 or 4 games on the spin, he wont stop scoring, its going to be all about confidence with Morata and he needs to score ASAP. Lacazette missed some sitters too last night but his chances came from luck not good movement or runs in behind.

He did have three really clear chances . night and didn't take any of them. Disappointing. However I rate him and think that he has done well so far for us. Yes, he could have scored a few more. He does have age on his side and I think he will improve

That is an awful stat. He needs competition but I feel he is mentally fragile. Come summer if we sign another big name forward say a Belotti/Aubameyang, I reckon it will affect his performances negatively.

I dont think we would be feeling like this were it  a less important game or less important times of the match.

Its the fact that two of the misses were for the opening and winning goal respectively, plus against Arsenal, who we have struggled against lately.

Certainly for me I had never been wound up by a strikers performance more than last night. Even in the Torres and Ba days. Doesnt mean I rate him lower than those, probably that I know he shouldnt be missing those.

Needs to play and score in the next two games.

Competition is very important in top level sport. Morata knows he is getting the nod every game he's available, because the manager just doesn'#t trust Batshayui. If we had another striker breathing down his neck for that starting spot, that's when top players either sink or swim.

but, but, but.  Salah is the latest "World's Best Ever Player EVER" and should never have been sold!

Let's hope for everyone's sake he keeps making those runs and take shots on goal, last thing we want is a striker 'scared' to shoot. Let's hope Azpi puts in that cross again and get Morata back on everyone's good list.

My god i was screaming at him earlier, especially after that one in the 93rd. But after time to reflect you gotta think. He had a bad game in front of goal, but how many times do you see strikers go missing and do nothing, they wont get the same flack as morata has received, at least he got in the position to make those chances, thats positive, next time he just needs to make the finish, which we know he is very capable of. Those who are disgracing him now are the sort to change their opinion based on one game, he finishes those chances today and makes a hat trick the same guys are saying he's the worlds best number 9. My opinion has not changed after that game, he was the third best striker in the league before and he is also the third best after.

24 goals and 6 assists this season though. Double the amount of Morata.

Batshuayi should've come on last night, but moving forward id stick with morata, and let him try and play though this. He is still pretty in experienced even though he is 24 and played in some massive games. Has he ever played consistently enough to be under this sort of pressure where he is expected to produce weekly?

We've invested a lot of money in him, and I think he has shown enough quality to stick by him.

He may always be a striker that misses a few, but he looks like the sort that will always get chances aswell, and like Salah is showing this season, if you are scoring alot, the misses are quickly forgotten.

We knew he wasn't the finished article when we signed him, He is the least polished striker we have had leading the line since drogba came in 04, and morata doesn't have a supporting cast like drogba had that season.

As a (once) fellow striker i can only sympathise with him, he does bring more than goals to the table, his hold up play and linking play is top notch, but his confidence in 1 on 1s is only going to get worse, he needs to beg borrow or steal videos of the Tremendousl Thierry Henry, probably the best 1 on 1 finisher i have seen, even Eden is far superior, maybe be like shearer and just put your laces through it, he rally does have everything to be up there with Kane, But.........

Wev'e played 19 teams in the EPL so far, and Morata has only scored with is favoured right foot against 2 teams, Stoke (3) and WBA (1).

Left foot one goal (tap in).
