December 24, 201510 yr It does sound like mental exhaustion. We've all worked for a demanding manager and felt how exhausting it is and the pressure they put on. I can understand why they would be exhausted. Going forward, do you think Jose will change his style? Will he have learnt from this? I don't think he will change anything in his approach with his next set of players. He has a remarkable track record of success with it after all. Maybe he will be a bit more cautious with his comments in the media, although I think he just can't help himself in that regard. Flawed genius ... as most of them are ...
December 26, 201510 yr "Choices were made by me. By me. Not by them." "Everyone says it is Mourinho's fault but it is not his fault because I made the decision. I went to his office to ask if I could go. He was the first one to say: ‘Good luck.' I signed the deal with Everton at 11 o'clock and the first text message I got on my old BlackBerry was from Mourinho saying: ‘Good luck, do your best and I will see you next season.' He was the first. Nobody knows that and that is why for me he gets immense respect." "It is really sad he has to go. He is a great character and a great man. Even though there were words said in the media, I never looked at it because I know what he did and not a lot of managers would do that." -Romelu Lukaku Also goes on to say we were 'mad' to sack him. Hopefully this puts the 'Jose sold Lukaku' talk to bed.
December 26, 201510 yr Even if he had sold Lukaku, who could've blamed him? Lukaku didn't perform and yet he demanded playing time. Also, up until this season the same people who blame Jose for 'selling' Lukaku were praising him for an amazing deal. It's ridiculous.
December 26, 201510 yr He left because we signed Eto'o. Who wanted Eto'o? But it must be that evil Emenalo who's intent on destroying our club
December 26, 201510 yr He left because we signed Eto'o. Who wanted Eto'o? But it must be that evil Emenalo who's intent on destroying our club Eto'o was our best striker that season. No problems there. You're right about Emenalo though.
December 26, 201510 yr Eto'o was our best striker that season. No problems there. Yes you're correct about that. The stats from the 2013-2014 season show the total EPL appearances and goals and in brackets it includes all competitions. Appearances also constitutes starting as a sub as well and coming on later in the match. Torres - 28 games, 5 goals (41 games, 11 goals) Eto'o - 21 games, 9 goals (34 games, 12 goals) Ba - 19 games, 5 goals (29 games, 8 goals) Edited December 26, 201510 yr by Jezz

Hopefully this puts the 'Jose sold Lukaku' talk to bed. What's interesting here is that it took Lukaku a long time to get to the form he's in right now, even at Everton. Jose always said that he needs to apply himself because all the talent notwithstanding even the best have to work hard for success on this level. Maybe Lukaku finally followed his advice and now all of a sudden he realises that Jose was right? That would explain why he's suddenly so sympathetic to him.

Also, up until this season the same people who blame Jose for 'selling' Lukaku were praising him for an amazing deal. It's ridiculous. The problem is though its not as if we have replaced Lukaku with much better strikers. I don't look at Costa and think he is on another level to Lukaku and he is 6 years older.
December 27, 201510 yr The problem is though its not as if we have replaced Lukaku with much better strikers. I don't look at Costa and think he is on another level to Lukaku and he is 6 years older. Would would you rather have on the team, Lukaku in his best form or Costa in his best form?
December 27, 201510 yr Id take Lukaku. He can single-handedly change a game on his day. Unplayable if he's got it going. In the Hazard thread we were speaking about players taking the game by the scruff of the neck. I think Lukaku does. Whereas Costas most effective self still relies on teammates

Which is sad as he could have easily have done the job that Eto'o did.
December 27, 201510 yr I guess Jose signing Eto'o was the writing on the wall for Rom. Which is sad as he could have easily have done the job that Eto'o did. In defence of Ba, I'm pretty sure very few of his appearances were starts compared to the other two. Number of minutes played might have been a better reflection, but yes, I realise the purpose here isn't to compare the three as much as it is to illustrate they were were all pretty average. On Lukaku, I think it was a consensus amongst Everton fans that he was underwhelming for them last season, and the arguments about playing for a pressure-bearing title-contending side seem to have disappeared now that he's scoring and Costa isn't.
December 27, 201510 yr No individual player, including Lukaku, would have changed the disaster that this season has been so far.
December 27, 201510 yr The disaster of a season has been self inflicted and caused by Mourinho. We may have not been first or second but 100% Jose's petulant actions and decision making were a massive detriment to this club. It really grinds my gears how he somewhat thought he was bigger than the club and some of our fans will just lap up anything he says. Every week I read stupid excuse after stupid excuse which was highly embarasssing only for his worshipers to say he was on a mastemind trick taking pressure of the team. Next week same rubbish performance and same outburst. Ive also seen some so called Chelsea fans wishing him luck in his new job hoping that he succeeds, sticks to fingers up at the club and makes us regret sacking him. Imo that is a foolish and dis loyal outlook. If he goes to Utd he is the enemy it is as simple as that.
December 27, 201510 yr Sunday times says he's been offered the madrid job with immediate effect. If true, goodluck to him.
December 27, 201510 yr Sunday times says he's been offered the madrid job with immediate effect. If true, goodluck to him. Well he would love to upset Rafa I am sure, his family seem settled in London so not sure if that will play in to it. Think he has unfinished business in Madrid personally. And with Iker moved on and Ronaldo roomed to be off to PSG then maybe the timing is right.
December 27, 201510 yr Would would you rather have on the team, Lukaku in his best form or Costa in his best form? I would actually take Lukaku.
December 27, 201510 yr Sunday times says he's been offered the madrid job with immediate effect. If true, goodluck to him. Would be rather amusing if FSW lost his job when two of his last three games were 8-0 and 10-2 scorelines

And with Iker moved on and Ronaldo roomed to be off to PSG then maybe the timing is right. Spot on. I think he's family would remain in London though.
December 27, 201510 yr Would be rather amusing if FSW lost his job when two of his last three games were 8-0 and 10-2 scorelines Haha. Wouldn't be surprised if he gets sacked, never seen a more fickle lot than the madrid board.
December 27, 201510 yr Much rather Madrid, then Manchester, of course. Is that in his best interest though, a club likely to give him similar treatment to what he received here?
