December 15, 20169 yr How does it seem that way? We needed another striker and we brought one in. We don't set up for two strikers and currently our starting striker is the best in the league so it's obvious he's not going to be dropped. I don't see tiredness in Costa's game either, he was still going full pelt last night in the closing stages nearly bagging a goal/penalty in the final minutes. Michy's time will come with injuries and suspensions, buying another striker would just mean they are sitting on the bench beside him too because Costa is un-droppable just now.
December 15, 20169 yr He's a good striker, we need him. When the first striker shows incredible form, top scorer in the league, then it should explain why Batshuayi doesn't play regularly. We're not in CL, no cups, only league. He should wait for his chance, he seems happy until now, next season we're going use him much more. Edited December 15, 20169 yr by IliyaKrostin
December 15, 20169 yr Michy better be ready, I fear the long awaited Costa yellow card is coming soon, maybe he will get one this weekend so he will have Boxing day off He will get his games, only reason he hasn't been is because we won 10/10 with Costa.
December 16, 20169 yr Surely Bats understands he can't expect to be starting when Costa is playing like this. Granted you would have thought Costa wouldn't have been eligible or healthy enough to play every match given his history with us but hopefully Michy is patient and understands more chances will come in the future if sticks around.

I will be very happy if he is willing to stick around. But I don't think there is anything bad in him getting 5 minutes game time towards the end of a match.

It's incredible how he rarely gets game time with his quality even in matches we are winning and Costa is obviously tired. I can see Conte trying to bring a new striker this January or at the end of the season. That's been the most puzzling part of the season so far. If it's level or we're up 1-0, ok I get it, leave Costa on for the full 90. But Hull, Leicester, Everton, didn't play a minute and 3 points were in the bag after an hour. I'm sure Costa doesn't want to come off early and at that point he didn't really need to either because of the lack of matches we were playing. Just seems to me it better for the team and a reward to Michy for training hard. (if he does) God forbid someone Agueros Costa in minute 82 of a 3-0 beating when he doesn't need to be on the pitch. Next season it's likely there will be minutes to go around.

December 17, 20169 yr I don't get why he isn't seeing minutes at the end of games either. Pat Nevin was talking about him on the Chels podcast this week and described him as one of the most promising strikers he'd ever seen. He needs to be getting some playtime, even if it's just 5-10m stretches.
December 17, 20169 yr Costa was only one match away from suspension or injury for Michy to get his chance. The moment has arrived! He'll be determined to impress the manager and teammates so this can only be a good thing for us even if Costa's a huge absentee in our Boxing Day fixture.
December 17, 20169 yr Surprisingly unconcerned about this. I think the lad will do us proud. Shame losing Kante as well though.
December 17, 20169 yr You know what's impressed me about Michy, he's barely played yet he hasn't complained. Now he has a chance to show what he can do.
December 17, 20169 yr What I afraid is that if he will fail to impress against Bournemouth and then he will get some critic comments on him. I really hope he will take this chance with both hands, but one game doesn't really describe what kind of player he is.
December 17, 20169 yr Here comes the opportunity he's been craving for, let's hope he stays calm and takes his chance.

All the time I have watched him play for us this season as a center forward, he struggles. But all those matches where he was brought into the game to play behind Costa, he always score or impress. So I won't judge him with the Bournemouth game since he is replacing Costa.

Batshuayi is a very good striker and as it was pointed out when joining us, he is use to playing up front on his own. He has hold up play, pace and can use both feet. He needs to be given starts before we judge him as a CF. Bristol Rovers, he scored 2, Leicester he did not score but overall was impressed by him. Really, he should be licking his lips coming up against this defence. Especially with the likes of Fabregas and Hazard creating chances for him.
December 18, 20169 yr I watched him for the development squad last month, and he scored a couple of screamers. I can't see him not finding the net tbh, it's his 1st opportunity and I think he has the quality to prove to the critics that we have an able replacement, should costa be unavailable for a period of time.
December 19, 20169 yr Last time he played a real game was against West ham in the cup month ago. I think he will be rusty, putting away chances at training ground is just not the same as playing real games. Cesc must play, hopefully Michy could get a few chances from Cesc's pin point through ball.

If we send him out on loan, we would literally have just one recognised striker for the whole season, which is nothing short of suicide for a team which is fighting for top4/title.
December 21, 20169 yr Loaning out Batshuayi would be equal to title challenge suicide. If Costa gets injured or gets suspended we would be left with only Solanke as our cover option. Hope Michy does well against Bournemouth, as he is only paying the price of Costa's superb form.
December 23, 20169 yr Be interesting to see how he goes against Bournemouth. Hopefully he'll do well, but he lacks Costa's all-round play and is more a pure poacher so we'll probably need to play Cesc somewhere to give him service. Bournemouth are more open than many sides around them, but I would expect them to be less so at Stamford Bridge. Personally, I'd shift to more of a 3-5-2, have Pedro and Batshuayi as the secondary and primary strikers, have Cesc in the hole with Chalobah and Matic offering a shield behind them. And no, I would not loan him. We have next to no cover then if Costa goes down. Edited December 23, 20169 yr by DaRick
