Given Pochettino is apparently a disciplinarian and a hard trainer I shudder to think how many games we will have the 3 of them available for. Probably be lucky to get 10 games combined out of them.

Kante is technically a free agent now.

I hope he's thanked for his services and let go. We've been burned before by relying on Kante only for him to be injured for most of the season so for me it's time to move on and replace him with someone who we can depend on. Perhaps a bit harsh that as Kante obviously been fantastic for us but for me the wise move would be to replace him with Caicedo.

So you mean the top PL teams & European giants are not queuing to sign him? Anything other than a 1yr pay as you play offer with an option then we are mugs. He is not going to stay fit.

Even if he's injured for half the season, he's still worth keeping for the performances he puts in when he does play. Absolutely no reason to let him go unless he wants to leave. Give him a wage cut and another year. We are already very thin in midfield as it is if all the players rumoured to leave actually do leave.

So let's say we buy Caicedo and he and Enzo forms a great partnership in the pivot. Do we still shoehorn Kante into the side on the few occassions he's fit? For me absolutely not because that could potentially disrupt the Caicedo/Enzo partnership and you would just know that sooner rather than later Kante would break down again. It's time to move on from him.

If Kante is fit, especially if it's a big game, he starts. He is a better player than Caicedo.

As a club I think we should move on from depending on Kante. It's hurt us before going into a season hoping Kante would stay fit and therefore not replacing him. Last time that happened was last season when he was on a very special rehab program and everyone was hoping he was over his injuries but that obviously was not the case.

Based on what? I haven't been following his contract negations closely to be honest, is there something I missed? 

I think we both agree on the same thing. I'm not suggesting we depend on Kante, he will be squad player with his fitness managed carefully so he's available for the big games.

I don't understand the difference between having Kante, Caicedo and Enzo to kante, Kova, jorgi or even kante, cesc and matic. You need at least 3 players for 2 slot. This is just standard practice. 

In term of Kante being shoehorned, it was because Kante was our best midfielder and it was not even close. It is that simple. If Kante is just some good player or jogavic are some kindmonster midfielders, no manager will bother with Kante. Heck, just look at Hazard. 

But no matter how you spin it, you need at least three player in midfield. Kante being one of them is not a problem. 

The only reason why we should not resign Kante comes down to his salary demand. Kante will demand high salary and deservedly so, he is that good. But I am not sure paying such high salary for player who will miss many games is wise.

Think he turned down a performance related contract earlier this year.

Wasn’t the sticky point that he wanted to retain his £250k/w, & was demanding a 3-4yr contract.

More of a case there are no top clubs interested. He isn’t a 35yr old Benzema or a 38yr old Ronaldo, if he could stay fit he can still play a part for an European club. I think he is a 32yr old with a body of a 35yr+ footballer due to his injuries. His injury record is scary, and anyone demanding the club retains him because of the odd game he might be fit for needs to give their head a wobble.

It's not deservedly so when he can barely play. Availablity is an underrated ability and this season we've paid him about £18 million for 9 games which is just ridiculous.

You're not wrong there ... I remember my state of incredulity when Frank Lampard finally missed a game after that incredible 164 league game continuity streak. They don't make them like that any more ! 

Give him a two year contract.

Best midfielder at the club but there has to be a performance related wage.

Absolute madness to free him if he wants to stay 

 

I know hes been injured a fair amount last couple of season... But when he plays he is worth three midfielders. Even with the onset of age he's still worth two midfielders. Made Pogo look world class. Makes us a totally different proposition when he plays. 

Can't for the life of me think why we would want to ship out our only truely world class player who has delivered everywhere he's been. sign him up please.
