Dare I say ivanovic played well

He did but I would say he was against Carroll much of the game. That suited him. Ivan is never lacking against strength and a physical presence.

Put him up against pace and movement and it is a different story.

I don't like to put a downer on him because he is a true Chelsea legend for me, but we need a younger, more technically accomplished, pacy right back IMO.

Just little digs here and there, saying we always get in the refs face, Costa's tackle was a straight red, basically saying Costa was showing his nasty side throughout the game. Costa was tame today, we have seen far worse from him and far worse from the likes of Rooney who always get's away with it.

Basically were on trouble because our defence is old and we need signings. Oh and costa won't be here end if August and without hazard were screwed. West ham on the other hand are full of positives and will do well. The c**t.

For me, Very good start. Happy enough but same deficiencies as last year. Not killing opponents off.

 

Kante - Amazing first 15 minutes, swept up everything whilst they were on top. Quiet afterwards but kept it simple and did his destroyer job when required. Matic was solid if unspectacular.

 

Oscar - Would the real Oscar please stand up... I mean get on your feet... I mean STOP DIVING. Offered very little going forwards bar a few decent through balls. With Kante and Matic, you dont need his extra legs in there and Fabregas's quality would have made a real difference here. 

 

Costa - Touch of a rapist, second touch was invariably a tackle. Too often ran at too many players with the ball barely under control. Is not a playmaker, or the type to bring others into play yet drifted out wide. Good goal though.

 

Ivan - After 5 years of playing RB, you'd have thought he'd learnt how to cross. Apparently not.

 

Willian & Hazard. Impressed, both of them. Needed a confident inform striker to play off but otherwise worked well.

 

Rest of the defence, assured and solid, as always. Will struggle if we lose Cahill or Terry, but whilst they are fit they will do a job.

We may have only won 2-1, but we still won against a good team and dominated the game. I take some of your points, but I think you are being a bit harsh. Every player put a good shift in.

That aside I do agree with you about Costa, 95% of the game he was poor. But how many of the worlds best strikers do nothing all game and then score the decisive goal.

Seen a few of the comments on here and it's strange how we all see different things. I saw very little to be pessimistic about. I would have liked more goals but i don't think you can ask much more. 

 

Yes this was possession football but we were aggressive and positive throughout the game. For me Matic offers very little and Costa spends too much time running with the ball and losing it rather than working between the posts. But our defence was tighter throughout. I love Kante already, he looks like he has been with us for years. Its the best i have seen Oscar play in, well forever. Hazard was pulling them about everywhere. We brought on Michy and played two up top for how long? We scored, Pedro should have had another, and Costa fluffed an overload trying to get a penalty. What's to be negative about on day one?

 

Positive, aggressive football from fit footballers. More of the same please and once they tune in to each other a bit more the goals will come.

 

Both of Conte's new signings are already integrated into the side and have affected the play.

I don't get the guys saying osca wasnt good? Osca was brilliant today challenged for every ball and assisted attack. Hazard was brilliant. Please stop winging people - this is the best I've seen Chelsea in a long time. Those thinking United were more solid, you are joking. United were slow and played against Bourne. Let's see how they do when they meet the tougher guys like west Ham. This was a good performance from a hard working Chelsea. Be happy wet got three points and look forward to Watford
