Where is this idea that Baba is perfect for wingback coming from? I swear every fullback who's shady defensively but has attacking quality is just as assumed as an ideal wingback.

Hehe... I think o should rephrase that.

Wingback is perfect for Baba. That's actually what I was thinking tbh.

In any cases, isn't that kind of how it is.

A very attacking full back who is familiar with defending and has a defender's instinct still from having played Played in the deeper position.

Wingbacks...they would be very good attacking players and decent/passable defensively for the most part. Someone who's both excellent in both defensive and attacking output... Well that would be ideal but not easy to find...

Their main role would be to support attack aggressively. But also to cover the defencive positions behind them more suitably than a winger.

Isn't that the point of a wingback more or less?

Aaaah whadduiknow anyways...! ?

RICARDO PAREIRA btw...

He's quite two footed as well. Always handy.

Edit:

It's Balotelli banging the goals in that clip .. Thought just occurred, maybe not a bad shout for third striker.

There is a big difference between what is expected going forward at full back compared to wing back. At full back there isn't any serious expectation's to be part of the buildup, overlapping the winger and creating explosive inroads/moment's is the main task. At wing back you are expected to be a key part of the build up play and have the patience to do the mundane stuff like keep thing's ticking over, something Alonso does very well.

By all accounts Conte is not a happy camper......but I can't believe the Board the are that stupid....are they, getting shot of all these players? Leaving signings this late in the game seems rather odd?    understanding that negotiations take time and there are a lot of variables...apart from money, I am still hopeful that the club are near to signing at least 2 or 3 players in the next couple of weeks or we might be up sh*t creek without a paddle and possibly a manager if he walks.

You would think the board would have the mourinho catastrophic season in mind. It was only a couple of year's ago

It's crazy

While that transfer window was a catastrophe, the problem that season was Jose. There is no way the transfer window can be blamed for us fighting relegation going into the new year.

I thnk our priorities in the window right now would be like this - LWB>CM>STR/RWB.
We can play hazard or pedro as false nine if we need to, for rwb we have azpi as backup but for cm and lwb we hav no one but youth. For CM fourth spot a youth player might be OK, but I doubt Conte would want to entrust a youth player to fill in in Alonso's absence.
Really hope we get a LWB before the season started and a CM before the window closes.

Drinkwater aint that bad to be honest

Was going to say the same. Would be an okay signing. Will cover our HG quota and we already know that him and Kante can play together and have good chemistry.

Drinkwater would do a job for us as a fourth CM. Cost though will probably be prohibitive, I wouldn't expect change from 40m.

If we spunked 40 million on Danny Drinkpints that would be Andy Carroll to Liverpool level robbery

Drinkwater and Kante was the title winning comb 2 seasons ago, so he's not that bad of a player. Having said that, don't think he's an upgrade, and he's not at the age where he's happy to play the backup role.

Let's hope we have a couple of players lined up already, needless to say we need depth

Drinkwater and Kante were IN a shock title winning side two years ago, against all the odds, and he is that bad a player.  He is at his level now.

If we sign Drinkwater, this would indicate to me and to the rest of the clubs, that we are not seriously looking to challenge in the CL. I was hoping that we would purchase some real WC players where required i.e wingbacks and another decent CM.

Not seen a figure published but I reckon around £25m

That's a steal and a bit unrealistic to me unless Real really wants to offload him.

I'd bite off their hand before Juve does if that price is real

Lots of talk about Lamina leaving Juve, I imagine this is the level of CM we are going to end up getting as back up, so I am surprised we are not in the fray.

Personally wouldn't mind him or Tom Davies if thats still an option
