That was a terrible embarassing game. Portugal are a disgrace and Iran got fed up and copied their antics. I hope Portugal get humiliated next game.

Ronaldo should have been sent off. Looked like an elbow but the only things the ref can give there are no foul or a red. A yellow was bottling it big time.

Both penalties were dubious (although we've seen a handball like that given already in the tournament so Iran's was possibly slightly more legitimate.

The problem with VAR and penalty decisions is that in asking a referee to review, he is basically being told that five other officials sat in a studio, think he has got it wrong. It would take a brave referee on the pitch to not just folllow suit and agree with them.

Man we were so close ffs........Iran showed they are not to be messed with. Could just as well have gone through but hey as Scolari always said: this is football. Really not fond of this Portugal team......what a silly goal Morroco gave away at the end.....if not Portugal was heading out.

It was, tho don't think it was a Red, the Iranian was trying to obstruct him yet agree some refs might have given a Red.

Hope Uruguay put them out.

Which is even more more worrying seeing as 5 officials think the ref has made a CLEAR and OBVIOUS error for decisions that aren't CLEAR and OBVIOUS.

This World Cup hasn't been a great advert for VAR has it? Yes it has resulted in some incorrect decisions being overturned but at times (like tonight's Iran-Portugal game) it's a farce. All that time wasted and then coming to the wrong decision.

There's no way a penalty should have been given for handball at the end. And as for Ronaldo, personally I hate seeing players sent off for soft sh*t like that, but that's a situation where the ref either says no foul or gives a red card. What has he actually given the yellow card for?

Portugal v Uruguay is going to be absolute torture for anyone who sits through it. I'd bank on extra time and pens in that one.

Sent off...

Behave yourself ffs. The wee Iranian went down like Pepe holding his face as if he was elbowed...it was a brush with the arm

Embarassing really

How pique got away without a red is a disgrace, but then to not even book him goes beyond ineptitude.

I reckon Internet would broke had Iran scored that last minute goal and knocked Portugal out, and it came down to Ronaldo missed that penalty, f* Hell Football.

FIFA has to restrict the number of times VARs get used, now the players just go up in arms appealing like it's a cricket game. Restrict to 1 successful VAR review from each team a game, and referee get 1 review per game ( right or wrong). We can't just VAR every incident, every instance of ball hit hand looked intentional when playing it slow motion. Defenders really need to tie their hands up behind back to avoid getting hand balled

In the current format it is ruining games and some of the decisions made are not even the right ones so really what has it solved?

If football is to become stop start like other sports the game is a bogey.

Does it really take 5 men behind a screen and also a match official to look over these things for a few minutes? Also re the penalty to Iran last night the referee was in a perfect position and saw what happened and didn't give it...then doubt was cast in his head with the guys behind the screen. He took a good 2-3 minutes watching it over and over again and somehow went against his original correct decision.

Last night was a great example of how VAR is contradicting the laws of the game. When a handball is called to VAR, the handball will be seen in slow motion, this takes away a huge piece of evidence for the referee, was it accidental or not, if you show it in slow mo you will get a totally different picture. The ref's initial decision, his gut instinct, was correct, then VAR persuaded him otherwise.

I would like  to see all VAR replays played at full speed with no slow mo's for the ref to see at all.

We really are in danger of all this technology turning football into a complete farce.

Everyone welcomed goal-line technology. As long is something is 100% accurate, how can it be a bad thing. Now there are no arguments - you check and the ball was over the line or it wasn't. But as soon as you start reviewing things that aren't black & white, it gets messy. We all know, you could play footage back 3 - 4 times and one person could have a different opinion to another. Surely in that case is it's best to stick with the refs decision - ref's decision being FINAL.

Imagine if the WC Final was settled by another ridiculous VAR incident. It's sh*t.

That's it really.

If the ball hits a hand then it's a penalty going by the slow mo replays of VAR. What about the players natural position, speed of the ball hitting player etc. These are all important variables when looking at these things.

Everything looks 100* worse when you slow it down

Nahh VAR is doing excatly as planned.....they are on purpose making it look horrible in order to get rid of it. You honestly think VAR should be this f**king difficult to handle?
