Alvaro Morata

Featured Replies

I have always been supporting that Morata stays another season and I rate him a lot. My worry is the look in his face. I'm not sure whether on Wednesday he was exhausted after his wife gave birth to twins, as I expect him to pull his shift with the kids and help his wife, or if his confidence is down again, but the look in his face was that of a defeated person. I personally think that he is much better than what he is offering at Chelsea since January, but his confidence is shot to pieces and I'm not sure if he can recover that here at Chelsea.

On the bright side, he only fell once (that I remember) when tackled on Wednesday, so he is obviously improving that aspect. Let's hope he's learnt not to fall at the slightest contact (though I have to admit that other times, like the non-given penalty against Norwich (I think it was) that led him to being sent off, referees have been quite harsh with him).

Higuain confirmed in a press conference today that Sarri wanted him. The club did not however and that's why he ended up at Milan.

So clearly Sarri were/are looking for upgrades in the striker departement. Doesn't sound like anyone of top quality will be purchased though.
Disaster waiting to happen if you ask me. Morata isn't good enough and neither are Michy or anyone else at the club.

Need to get Drogs back coaching him, his one touch finishing was superb at times....oh and Zola will help, he wasn't to shabby in front of goal.

I don't think any coaching could help. It's like i said a few days ago, he's probably putting these chances away for fun in training, but when it comes to times when it actually matters, he losses his confidence. Morata has a mental block that he can't seem to shake, it's something the very top players don't have a problem with.

The club are right.

Yeah starting of with not getting the players the manager wanted worked wonders last time. And we need a better striker, of that there should be no doubt.

Any excuse to get rid of that cursed number should be taken.

This, ladies and gentlemen and everybody in between, is the long awaited moment that Morata turns a corner! I'm thinking 24 goals in the league, 4 in the cups and 8 in Europe. Conservative estimate of course.

If we can keep teeing Morata up with enough chances then hopefully he will turn the corner and come good.

Most people would probably swap him with Harry Kane in a heart beat, and yet Morata's conversion rate is not actually much worse than Harry's ... Kane converts about 1 in 6 (last season 30 PL goals from 184 shots on goal), and he is a "goal a game" striker because he does actually get enough chances to score that goal in every game.

Morata was 1 in 7 (11 goals from 79 goal attempts), plus 6 assists (Kane had 2).

If we'd played more attacking football, then I dare say Alvaro would have had sufficient chances to get to that benchmark of 20 PL goals.

Kane actually missed more "big chances" than Morata ... 18 to 17.

(Stats from official Premier League web site).

This is my hope as well. I know its preseason, but the amount of chances he is getting is encouraging. Especially once Hazard gets back and gets into the flow of things, Morata should have plenty of opportunities to make amends or prove that he isn't worth it

Sarri might want a whole host of players, it doesn't mean we should go out and buy all of them. Higuain would have cost us a lot, more than Milan got him for, because they sold Juve Bonucci. There are many many reasons why Higuain didn't make financial sense. His age, his weight, the fact he's clearly on the decline, the fact Juve want to sell him in the first place, the fact he has zero PL experience, etc etc.

Edit: If he's going on the cheap, fine, but he wasn't.

I'm tired of the club not supporting the coach. The coach knows what kind of players that would take the team to the next level. I'd rather go with whoever Sarri wants than so mediocre club signing that we overpay for anyways.

Higuain is fit as a fiddle right now, Sarri knows him, fits the system to a tee and 50 million euros is not a ton of money anymore in this new market.

And for me that could be the difference between top 4 and being out of it. And not making that will cost us a lot more than Higuain.

I see where you're coming from but Sarri may know Higuain, and Pepe Reina, and Jorginho and everybody else. Why can't he get to know new players? Why does he need Rugani when we've got Christensen etc? For my money, unless these players are clear upgrades, or the financials make sense, the club are right to stay within their parameters.

Did Sarri know Higuain before he worked with him? Did he know Rugani? Did he know Vecino? We've bought Jorginho for him. He doesn't need to bring in all his old players.

Interesting to give up the #9 for the #29 ... maybe that will ease his mental burden a touch and spark him into life ?

29 apparently because that's the day his twins were born ... :)

Perhaps they'll give #9 to Tammy now ?
