August 5, 20187 yr He was awful. Not more awful, just the usual awful. I have no idea what he's supposed to be doing, and neither does he.

Without even getting into ability, the contrast in work rate between the 2 was unbeleivable. Aguero constantly pressing, always making runs. Morata standing up top waiting for things to happen. I always got told if you are having a bad game, just make sure you run yourself into the ground. Morata doesn't have that attitude. I hate watching Aguero play. For so long we wouldn't pay Atletico's price, then City did and he's been banging them in against us ever since.
August 5, 20187 yr I have no idea how Sarri is supposed to utilize him. Sarri plays his football on the floor with close control. Morata has no close control abilities and his best assett is his heading.
August 5, 20187 yr I watched the game from up in the gods on the halfway line so had a good overall view of the way the game went. I cannot remember a player ever having less touches in a game, all he did was jog over to one side...... then jog over to the other. The amount of times he was overtaken by someone from the left and right to press their back four was embarrassing. Despite the lack of service he did nothing to help himself, he was just... Pitiful.

As was the whole team. We can't blame him for a really poor performance from the whole team. From the tactics to the lack of intensity by every single player bar CHO.
August 6, 20187 yr I am confident Michy will end up as our no.1 striker. He looks to be much more suited to Sarri's style of play. Morata, even if he wants a move away, needs to show other clubs why they should want him lol. If you're a club looking for a striker, does Morata really like like a tempting option? I hope a switch flicks in his head and all of a sudden he plays out of his skin by the start of next season, but it's increasingly frustrating to see how little impact he is having. Agreed, but then again why buy an Aguero or a Pogba when we can buy two Drinkwater and Bakayoko’s instead? Come on now Spiller, you know it makes sense
August 6, 20187 yr We bought Fabregas and Costa for something like £60m. I think people forget just how inflated the market is in 2018. Any fringe world class (if that) player is going for £70-80m. The market is becoming a joke. If we were to buy Costa and Fabregas in today's market they would be double those amounts combined. Liverpool have probably made the best bargain so far with Salah. It's always the risk you take though, you can't always be 100% certain that a player will become top class at the club, even if they're doing well in another country.

Aguero to chelsea was all setup nicely. He scored 2 against us in the champions league, (and everyone know how we like to sign players that have scored against us. Then it all looked set we would pay his £40m buy out clause. We then ended up with torres for £50m I January, which meant the aguero deal was dead in the water. I think that decision has cost us at least 1 league title in the following years.
August 6, 20187 yr Aguero is certainly one striker I'd like to have seen play for us ... another from recent times would be Carlos Tevez. Aguero's strike rate in league games in England is actually better than Jimmy Greaves !!! Edited August 6, 20187 yr by Sexyfootball
August 6, 20187 yr It's becoming clearer with every game that this is a real problem. Nobody would have blamed him for not scoring yesterday, he had little to no service let's be honest. But he hardly looked like he broke sweat. I would like to have seen him charging round the pitch like a headless chicken; making runs, dropping into midfield, hell even committing a few nasty fouls and generally imposing himself on the game in any way possible. I'm sorry, but he just looks like a massive limp prick at the spear of our attack, and it's painful to watch. Opponents must rub their hands together when they see Morata is starting for us; they just know it's going to be light work to keep him quiet. I was guilty of wanting to keep faith with Torres for longer than most on here. In hindsight, the club should have cut their losses with that one 2 years before they eventually did. Right now, I would take any offer for Moarata and throw money at any striker that Sarri thinks he could use. I think the situation is that bad, that pretty much anything would be better than starting with Morata up top next season. I am at the point that I even think Michy, or a fired up and hard working Abraham would be better choice to start games for us. The negative and defeated persona of Morata must get in the heads of the other players and just stinks out the entire dressing room. He's a passenger and I think everyone with eyes can see that at the moment. I really hate to write a player off, and it's not like me to be honest, but I can only see this going one way and I think it would be better for all involved to cut our losses and roll the dice in order to try and salvage our season.
August 6, 20187 yr So how many chances are we realistically meant to give Morata? He offered absolutely nothing yesterday. Is fine saying he got no service but he didn't try to bring himself into the game, didn't come deep looking for the ball to try and get on it and influence the game. He just milled about doing little to nothing in isolation. He's never going to be a striker that grabs a game by the scruff of the neck and does absolutely anything he can to try and force something to happen. As it stands right now, if we don't sign someone new, Michy has a real chance to make himself first choice if Sarri is willing to give him game time because Morata just looks so impotent right now.
August 6, 20187 yr Author Michy will get his chance, just needs to make sure he takes it. Abraham needs to play too, these two have the best chance of improving amongst our strikers, but only if they play, this is the problem, the £70m white elephant.
August 6, 20187 yr I'd rather see Tammy given a chance over Morata. At least he shows some passion and desire.

Best post I've seen in a while on this thread. I think he's a good player and I wanted him here, but he hasn't been good enough. As for Torres however you cannot use that example for everything, Morata has shown more quality than Torres ever did at Chelsea. Despite what some people think on here (the comments about Torres have been odd, it's almost as if it wasn't the same Torres we had to put up with for years). It's only preseason but Morata is showing no threat when the going gets tough, that's a problem, Costa always had his head in the game even when he went overboard. Even when we played awful and he wanted to leave he still scored in the F.A. Cup Final, he still wanted to score goals, we aren't getting this from Morata. Some strikers do require more assistance than others, when they get that assistance they'll score goals, Lukaku is one of them, he can't rely on a team that doesn't give him service. We'll wait and see what happens, the reality is that he's going to be here for another season, we need to accept that. If he has another bad season then I'm all for selling him and getting a replacement. As for now though I'm going to keep the faith that he can develop his game here. But it's hard enough when we already need better players in certain positions, if Hazard doesn't play we are screwed. Once again we are going into the season with no good players to play around him.
August 7, 20187 yr So - knowing what we know about Sarri's ability to improve players and fit them into his system - the question, I imagine, that is on everyone's mind - can Morata play in goal?

It wasn't about the fee, we agreed that with them. It was down to aguero massive wage demand at the time, it was double our highest earners.
August 8, 20187 yr It feels more and more that our season may be defined by morata’s confidence. He really needs to get off to a good start
August 8, 20187 yr All rumours of a new striker seem to be fading. And with such a big outlay on Kepa, I doubt if we have enough in this window's budget to finance another marquee name without selling a 'starting eleven' player. Plus, time is fast running out. We will be stuck with Morata, at least until January, it seems. He better fire.
