Next Chelsea Manager

  1. 1. Here are the current favorites with Conte included. Jody Morris is in there as he is the current youth team manager, and promoting from within seems to have worked for Barca, so why not us?!

Hyperbole to delegitimise a posters point is a bit cheap and does not work. Nobody said we want Neymar/Messi so your exaggerations are nothing but daft. People are just worried that we have seemingly no manager and don't look close to signing one any time soon. Thinking people should only start worrying about the club when your arbritary line for worrying is July is weird and not conducive to any form of conversation. By your measure we should just sit around and not comment at all because there is no news to comment on.

There was no hyperbole, I was quoting myself in a previous post.  It wasn't my "arbritary line for worrying" - you go ahead and worry all you like.  If we are in mid-July with no signing and no manager, then I will be a bit concerned, but please feel free to fret as soon as you like, based on nothing but your own pessimism.  I think we should  not, by default, adopt an anti-club stance,  just because there is nothing actually confirmed in May, which is what you and  several others are doing.  Like I said to the other person, no-one, not you, not me, not them, not everybody has any idea what negotiations are ongoing, what deals are being done and for what value, and so, in my opinion, anyone making negative comments about the progress or otherwise,  based on rumours in the press and twatter  feeds, needs to just settle down and be patient.  For the benefit of their own sense of well-being and their blood pressure.

But I'm neither your alternative therapist nor your doctor, so if you want to build up a head of steam with premature and unjustified outrage, go right ahead.  And that will be my last word on this.

And this is my point, exactly.

Amen, its beyond ridiculous how many posters we have in here who hate everything about the club, desperately overemphasising anything even slightly negative and comparing it against other teams in the most disparaging way possible.

This is so spot on. Personally, I try to not focus on who we are connected to and who our rivals are going after. It can be so tiresome trying to keep track of all the rumors that abound during this time of the year (especially trying to determine what rumor is legitimate and which ones are completely asinine). I try to have an open-mind about some of the players we bring in but the last few transfer windows haven't given the club much credit to work with. But the sky isn't always falling.

Given the lack of interest in buying some new quality players, selling Hazard and Courtois would be a disaster for this club.

How do you know there is a "lack of interest in buying some new quality players"?

Do  you also have the full and complete details of the Brexit negotiations and Roman Abramovich's dealings with the tax-man?

Fact is that if we wait too long no big name will want to join our squad.

But maybe the World Cup can help us it's an opportunity in itself cause some new kid might show up there and we can sign him, something like James to Real Madrid after the previous World Cup so fans shouldn't worry when it comes to that.

But no matter what it's very important to spend big on at least 1 new big name, otherwise Hazard and others might just leave us.

Mmm, I don't know, maybe observing last few transfer windows is going to give you a hint.

I don't think it's over the top at all if the last three summer windows have taught us anything.
The club have resorted to complete panic buys on deadline day in every one of them.

I think we are all in agreement last summer's window was not a good one, but the one before?

Kante, Alonso and Luiz proved themselves as very good signings in a title winning season. Certainly not bad returns for "panic buys".

It was just a shame Luiz had a huge falling out with the manager this season preventing him from having an impact. Although he wasn't the only player!

According to CalcioNapoli24, Chelsea have not made any formal offer to buy Sarri out of his contract, despite agreeing personal terms with the Coach last week.

It’s likely Chelsea will already have to pay current boss Antonio Conte a large sum to fire him early, so they don’t want to shell out twice for a tactician.

Morata, Rudiger, Emerson, Kante, Luiz, Alonso??

But oh yes, Luiz and Alonso are 'last minute panic buys' and other signings didn't pan out so it was intentional to not buy quality I guess

Maurizio Sarri risks sitting a year out, as it’s reported Chelsea have not offered to buy him out of his Napoli contract and the clause expires on Thursday.

The Coach was fired to make way for Carlo Ancelotti, but under Italian law the contract remains in place until either a termination is negotiated by mutual consent or someone pays the €8m release clause.

That release clause is due to expire on May 31, so after that there is the genuine risk Sarri could have to sit a year out and wait for his contract to reach its natural end before he can work for anyone else.

Although Napoli would continue to pay his wages during this year, it’s something President Aurelio De Laurentiis may well be prepared to do just to prove a point.

Zenit St Petersburg officially hired Sergey Semak today, so that option is off the table and only Chelsea remain.

Now Sarri’s lawyers are working to find a way out of his Napoli deal.

:face_palm:

No rush lads, no rush, everything is proceeding according to plan. The WC in a matter of weeks, Roman marooned in Israel and unable to puppet things, our own players in mutiny, Sarri in football contract purgatory. Conte sitting inside his luxurious house, spam in hand, waiting for his pay-off... all good.

ALL good...

And were getting relegated to the conference south, kicked out of Stamford Bridge and have to play home games at Plough Lane.

Point me some option number one out of this list.

I'm sorry, but "that was a different era" is a bit of a lazy catch-all dismissal of another's argument.  Football is forever changing.  Last May "was a different era"to this May because of the money spent by the Manc clubs and the points gap between first and fifth in the league.  Last November "was a different era" to now.  We were playing OK then.

I think you're deliberately being fictitious there. The transfer market has been a ticking time bomb ever since we paid £50m for Torres and transfers like Bale to Madrid and James to Madrid took it even further. It finally exploded with Neymar's transfer but it has been on this path for a long time.

Also, how is saying 03-2012 was a different era a catch-all dismissal? The proof is in the pudding. We had the same core through those 9 years and had to change it drastically in the 2 years or so after the CL win because that era was over.

But aye, I'm obviously not going to change your opinion, so it's fine. Carry on.

I honestly can't believe we're dragging our feet over an 8m release. We've wasted money like that on dross like Djilobodji and twice that amount on Baba Rahman but we suddenly can't pay it for a new manager?

Most teams are trying to get their transfer targets in already because they know players (who are playing in the World Cup) don't like to move while the tournament is on and as soon as the World Cup is over, pre-season and what not kicks off, and we haven't even gotten the first piece (manager) signed because of 8m.

Liverpool have signed Fabinho and upgraded their midfield barely a few days after the CL final. We would have haggled over the price with Monaco for weeks and probably ultimately lost the target. This is a far cry from how fast and precise our business (both small and big) used to be pre 2015. Not sure what has changed. We pulled this same stunt last season and ended up with Drinkwater, Zappacosta and Barkley. Something has to change.

It's especially puzzling because we've just signed the biggest sleeve sponsorship in the league and are in the process of signing another big deal later this summer but are haggling over....you know what? I'm done thinking about it. Whatever we end up with at the start of the season, so be it.

It's the new state of things. We've got a stadium to pay for, and we've lost out on the CL money. I can see us not making many signings this summer.

If we are dragging our heels over a fee like that don't expect a lot of action in the transfer window. We really do look to becoming like Arsenal were when they started with the Emirates stadium project.

then we will start playing are much vaunted youth players,  which is what everyone wants, right?  and I'm sure those same people won't mind that we won't win a trophy for a few years,  miss out on Champions League etc.

We can't do what Arsenal did and sell all the best ones after a few years, if we're to integrate youth we need to make smart decisions.

I will be heart broken if the deal falls through now. But whatever happens happens, I'm losing the enthusiasm for the sport with the way our club is run. This season was hard to follow with the losses to watford and bournemouth.

I can't imagine another season with Antonio moaning and a barely changed squad. But nothing we can do about it. I'll just sit back and watch how everything unfolds, be a witness for all the upcoming drama.

Don't need to make many signings, just the right few. Now, will that happen, I guess we will know in about 6-7 months
