Next Chelsea Manager

Who would be your choice as Chelsea manager going into next season? 213 members have voted

  1. 1. Here are the current favorites with Conte included. Jody Morris is in there as he is the current youth team manager, and promoting from within seems to have worked for Barca, so why not us?!

Strange statement, being a fan gives us the right to not be happy with mediocrity. Just because we have no control over it, doesn't mean it doesn't affect us.

Again, somebody has used this word "Mediocrity" to describe the club. Fans of clubs below us must be almost suicidal! I wonder how many of you lot were around when we really were sh*t!

Zenit St Petersburg, who were apparently rivaling Chelsea for Sarri's signature, have appointed Sergei Semak as their new manager.

It's almost as if they believe that Sarri is no longer available.... I wonder why?

The delay is just posturing by the club. His clause expires tomorrow and it’s a question of who blinks first. I’m sure by tomorrow, the club and Napoli will strike a deal.

Napoli will be in a stronger position come tomorrow.
Right now we know they'll have to let him go for £7 million.

After tomorrow ADL can demand however much he wants.

Selling Matic to United for the price of 1 Danny Drinkwater was a bit of a gem too.

Honestly, certain people should be lucky they still have a job. Most people would be sacked on the spot for wasting that much money.

Well it was Bakayoko for Matic and Drinkwater panic buy in January window. But somehow after this season has ended with Man utd not winning sh*t and Matic turning 30, it's guaranteed that Jose will spend a lot again, while if we miss out in this transfer window we will be fighting for top 8.

The most successful English team in the last decade who spent close to £250m last year on transfers for their manager misses out on a Champions league place. That is quite mediocre. Or is finishing 5th our aim?

Your point about the other fans being suicidal (poor taste to make light of it) is strange too as other clubs clearly have different targets. Would Swansea fans have had the target to finish top 4? Absolutely not.

I wasn't around when we were sh*t as i wouldn't have been born but just because we were sh*t in the past doesn't mean we should accept being sh*t now.

I mean if we miss out this transfer window getting top 4 would be wishful thinking, specially if Hazard doesn't see anyone new coming to help him out he will be gone as well as possibly Courtois.

Ah fair enough.

Obviously sarcasm is lost on you, so in the future I'll try to be straight to the point so you understand me. On the issue of mediocrity, I feel like I could argue with a few of you until I'm blue in the face, and still you would tell me I'm wrong.

So my last word on the subject is this: Our club is one of the top 6 clubs in this country, and among the top 20 clubs in world football. The obvious aim of the club is to be one of, if not the best clubs in the world! And if I'm honest, the club have done a bloody good job over the past 15 or so years. The club may have made a fudge of things here or there, but on a whole we've managed to be the most successful club in the country over the past 15 years.

So if you want to cry every time we have a sh*t transfer window, or if the club doesn't feel the need to keep you informed of every stage of the process of hiring a new manager, then so be it. I'll just sit here and patiently wait for the season to start, and judge the clubs decisions once the season's finished!

For purely academic reasons could those distressed with the board for not just coughing up the £8m answer this hypothetical question.

Your work colleague has brought in a sandwich for lunch, he then decided actually I fancy a pizza and orders in the pizza and now has no intention of eating his sandwich,  you offer to take the sandwich for your lunch as you actually quite fancy a sandwich and offer to pay your colleague the amount he spent on said sandwich and he says f**k off I want double. What do you do??

You piss on his pizza.

Is there any way we can restart the poll at the top of this thread to see where people stand with their votes for the manager a few month later? @coco @Mod Stark

No you will have to start a new thread. But you can probably predict it will be Sarri, he hardly had any votes to begin with, but now fans have heard about him and his style of play they favour a change from our last two defensive managers.

e2a: in fact reading back to the 2nd post in this thread, Sarri was not even on the initial poll.

While it's true that we did spend £250m last season and missed out on Champions league spot, we also sold for £200m in total so if you want to look at it more realistically we didn't just spend like Manchester teams in new players but we mostly spent to replace players, so in total around ~ £50m is not such a big investment in the squad compared to Manchester teams.
Still not a real case when we compare ourselves with Liverpool and Spuds.

Well with the release clause expiring tomorrow I guess today is the day. If we aren't paying the £8mil release clause then I doubt we will bother any further since ADL can ask for more than £8mil after tomorrow.

Hypothetically without having any knowledge of Sarri's existing contract, would the compensation reduce? He is reportedly earning at present 1.5m per annum with 2 yrs still left on his deal. So the contract is worth 3m with maybe an added million as a sweetener for Napoli. Probably won't work that way but I can imagine a lawyer arguing that point.

Exactly although I'd probably get fired for whipping my cock out in the office and the pizza is a favourite of mine and I would want to tarnish the double award winning pizza. So maybe something slightly more civilised.

Isn't that what we have supposedly offered which seems reasonably fair

I was around when we were really sh*t and whilst your point is correct, Shaggy is also correct in saying that we truly have little room for our sense of entitlement as everything that we currently have has come directly through the funds provided by RA. Even when we got close to moving up to the next level we only got the players to help us get there off the back of the hope that Matthew Harding would change our fortunes. RA took us to another level and if, a generation later, we are now finding that there are bigger fish out there than us, we should still be happy with the quality that we do have within our squad. That is the point I think Shaggy was making.

Fine, be annoyed all you want. But do you even know why you're annoyed? Other than the media hyperbole, do you have any idea what's happening behind closed doors at the club?

I know that Conte is still our manager. I would like to know why but regardless, that is annoying me.

OR, after tomorrow, Sarri can just hand in his notice and walk away.  If what someone has posted above about him earning 1.5 million a year, then give the bloke a 3 million signing on fee.  Sweet.  (If you really want him, that is)

Can he do that, with 1 year remaining though? Wouldn't they force him to pay off the remainder of his contract?
