July 26, 20187 yr #mufc are no longer opposed to selling Martial #mulive [rmc] We managed to get £55-60m bid from Barca, I think we valued Willian at £70m. Doesn’t Martial only have 1 year left on his contract? i would have thought a straight swap would fair enough because of Martial’s 1 year deal.
July 26, 20187 yr They have the option to extend by another year. Which feels weird, given they don't actually want him, increases his sale price - because he can't actually choose to leave for free next summer if they don't want him to. Still, I do not believe he will go anywhere for 80M. It will either be some mutually satisfying part-exchange or a smaller fee. No one will pay 80M for him.
July 26, 20187 yr Yeah I read about the 1 year extension. Surely it has to be agreeable on both parties?

July 26, 20187 yr 3 minutes ago, Valerie said: Really ? Labour laws permit that? From what I understand a player will sign a fixed term contract of say 4 years. The option of the 5th year can be triggered by the club upon certain conditions having been met (such as making X number of appearances during the first 3 years of the contract). It's an insurance policy for the club. If the player is a success they can retain them for a further year ensuring their value stays high, if they don't live up to expectations they're not bound to paying their wages for a longer period.
July 26, 20187 yr I am looking at Jose' demeanor and can see he is under immense pressure (seen this same unhappy Jose in his lasts months at Chelsea). Reading between the lines, I can't see Jose allowing him to move to Chelsea or any PL club. Would like Martial, he is a great player and I believe the system Jose plays is suppressing him. It’s a very common contract setup over here in the US with NFL, NBA, MLB, etc, but this is the first I’ve seen of it for a PL player.

July 26, 20187 yr I dont get it sometimes though, if you dont rate a player why not sell to a rival club. If you dont rate him then you wouldn't be bothered about him doing anything good. Its like if Man Utd came in for Pedro tomorrow morning with £60M pound bid id snap there hands off and let him go as i dont rate him. Its only players who you rate and are good like Matic you worry about selling to rivals. Edited July 26, 20187 yr by jack_super_class
July 26, 20187 yr I would think 10 mill plus Willian would be fair. Cause martial ain't worth 80mill but Willian ain't worth 70mill either so would be fair. Though I expect United sell him to spurs or more likely somewhere outside of England and then offer us somewhere around 60mill for Willian.
July 26, 20187 yr Mourinho has seen selling players like De Bruyne, Salah, Lukaku come back to bite him. Wouldn't want Martial coming to us and start scoring, reflects badly on him
July 26, 20187 yr But then there are rumours that United board don’t want to buy Willian or Persic and Jose is unhappy about it. It might be the only way that Jose can get his man rather than a straight cash deal.
July 26, 20187 yr He is rough around the edges, but he's shown he can be incredibly damaging. I would take him if we were allowed to (which I doubt we will).
July 26, 20187 yr This is United we are dealing with. Do you really see this working out? We'll probably let Willian go there cut price just to keep him happy, and then get the runaround over Martial before signing a lesser alternative on deadline day

As things stand irrespective of the 5th year option Martial could walk from Man Utd at seasons end indeed had he given proper notice he could have left at the end of last season. its rarely used but there is an article in FIFA rules on players that’s often referred to as The Webster Ruling. In brief a player like Martial who is under the age of 28 ( there is a slight change in the rules for players over 28) can during a short period in pre season and having seen out three years of his contract give notice and walk. No transfer fee is involved but compensation is. Although not published anywhere there seems to be an almost unwritten rule that you don’t sign a player who has forced their exit under a Webster although it seems that following troubles at Sporting Lisbon several of their players have walked and almost certainly have used the ruling to effect their exits.
July 26, 20187 yr Willian is a player Jose really wants. Remember our final season under Jose when everything went horribly wrong and the players seemingly turned against him? Willian performed for him, week-in week-out, running tirelessly and diligently, which is what Jose really likes. Jose always give Willian a cuddle whenever we play them. He whispers sweet nothings into his ear. Believe me folks, Jose really wants him. Martial is a player Jose really hates. He doesn't run tirelessly and diligently for him, in fact he doesn't appear to respect him, much as our players didn't. He can't be trusted to do what Jose wants on the field, which is basically to operate as a full-back. The trouble is Jose can't afford to have Martial in his squad. The art of management, as our former manager Tommy Docherty once observed, is to keep the players that hate you away from the ones that like you. Jose needs to sell but to who? Who's going to pay the money? Who really needs him? I'm convinced we can get this done if we really want to. In fact, I have no doubt about it. It just depends if we want to. We don't need a left-winger. That's the last thing we need, but maybe we want a centre-forward, which is Martial's preferred position by all accounts. We could potentially buy Bailey and Martial for the same sort of money as we sell Willian and Morata, if the will is there. Sarri turned Higuain into a phenomenon and he converted Dries Mertins from a winger into a prolific striker. He could do something with Martial, hopefully. Willian is 30 in a week or two. He has two years left on his contract. You get the feeling he wants away. He just hasn't been able to cement a first-team place these last few years. Maybe he wants another challenge, more money, who knows? He's a good player but not a great one, although he can be a great one on his day but not often enough. When his head's screwed on he is a committed player you can rely on for workrate and attitude. He's nowhere near the level of Hazard. We can afford to lose him, but we'll need to replace him. 30, two years left, if we're going to sell now is the time to do it. This is the best time we'll ever get. I'd be willing to give Morata another year but I'd be very happy to see him go if we got a replacement. Martial and Bailey for Morata and Willian? Who wouldn't say no to that? That would constitute a very good window in my view, and an exciting one. Pace, skill, youth. Yes please. Jose appears to be at loggerheads with the Utd board. You get the feeling all is not well with him. He's not happy with his squad. He wants a player he knows and trusts and that's our trump card. He doesn't want Martial about the place and there won't be too many takers at the price they're asking and it will have to be somewhere Martial wants to go. Meanwhile AC Milan want Morata .. I think we should wait for the phone to ring, as it inevitably will. Utd want Willian. They will grow more and more desperate unless they want Jose to go into full retard mode before the season's even begun. We wait. They call. They enquire about Willian. We say he might be available. We ask them how Martial's doing. We say we might be interested in a swap. They so no dice. We say fine. We hang up and we wait, until they call again. A swap? A swap. But Martial's worth more than Willian. We hang up again. You got to love Marina. We wait and they call again. Did you say a swap? That's right Woodward, we said a swap. Believe me folks, if we want this to happen we can make it happen. In fact it's not going to be very difficult. This one is playing right into our hands.

IMO Jose is already in the first stage of a huge fall out with Man Utd. This will more than likely be his final season there, if he even lasts to the end of the season. July 27, 20187 yr The latest fall out between Martial and Jose is being over blown. Like every father to be, he's going back to be his wife, no bosses would have said No, and Jose didn't really make a big deal out of it. He will leave, and unlike Hazard I don't think the situation will change as long as Jose is still in charge. Jose would love the Willian swap, get the player who will do exactly what he asks, and get rid of one he couldn't get the best out of.
July 27, 20187 yr Ongoing talks of a Willian, Martial swap deal according to sky sports, I’ll believe it when I see it. Also been linked to Bernard who we can get on a free, makes sense as he’s a right winger.

Personally I think you can only play him on the left or through the middle
July 27, 20187 yr Mourinho done some bad business at Chelsea specifically KDB and Lukaku. It feels like we are going to be on the end of a good deal this time and we get a player that can really kick on and be a top level forward. Martial must be thinking if he can play through the middle and get a good return on goals he will be a garenteed starter for France too
