Not getting into space and making himself available in the final third. When he is getting on the ball, it’s safe, almost lazy. He’s the attacking player of the midfield 3, the link between midfield and attack, he’s got to make things happen whether that be a through ball, a smart darting run or bringing the ball forward with conviction. He’s doing none of those things so far. He's got to do better, I agree, but he has done a couple of runs inside the area, one of which could have been a goal but he missed the last shot, and has linked up well with William. He's got to work more, I agree with you.

August 7, 20187 yr I don't expect too much. These players haven't really played together in a competitive game and everybody is still getting used to the system. These pre-season friendlies are really for us to experiment and for players to accustomed to the system.
August 7, 20187 yr Lyon's counter attacks are very good, our midfield let them too easy. Ampadu has stopped 90% of the attacks, few good blocks. Our best player until now. Also, Zappacosta has done well defensively, Willian had great moments, also a good free-kick. Abraham needs more movement towards the ball, he does move forward and asking for the ball, but he needs to come towards. Moses isn't a quality winger, maybe best RWB in the team, but as a winger, he missing a lot.

He just takes the ball in his feet and passes to defender letting Lyon to get organized. Not all his fault as it is team game but he is not someone Sarri will use. Nor is Bakayoko. Ruben for me is 50-50 but if he wants to play all the time he needs to go back to Palace or somewhere else.
August 7, 20187 yr Don’t think that half taught us anything we didn’t already know. Abraham doesn’t look ready to step up to this level, I expect a loan for him. Moses isn’t going to offer anything as a winger, think he might find himself marginalised this season. Don’t see where he fits in, players ahead of him even as second choice. RLC, I’m not seeing it. Not going to force his way ahead of Barkley or Fabregas on this showing. Bakayoko. Yeah, whatever. Drinkwater, alright as a backup, won’t ever be first choice but maybe a decent option for rotation this year. Ampadu, quality. Premier League loan could be great for him. Emerson, quick going forward. Maybe lacking a little quality. Zappacosta, just seems to fluke it if he goes past his man, just kick and chase from him. Alright as back up but Dave has nothing to worry about. Christensen, being overshadowed by Ampadu, getting beaten a little too easy for my liking.
August 7, 20187 yr Well, how the hell did I stay awake during that? Yikes. We're passing the ball, and keeping possession, with no seeming goal in mind. Tip tap tip tap. Woo hoo! The few times we've gotten to the flanks, we've crossed it along the floor, don't we have anyone who can head it? Christiansen looks the most newrvous at the back, imo. Ampidou look pretty good though. Abraham? Give the guy a chance, he hasn't even come on yet. Has he? If this is the brand of football we've got to look forward to, then it's going to be a long long season.

Totally agree it's not all on Danny, Bakayoko and Ruben need to step up, Ruben has been poor he's looked like he's ready to be told he's going on loan

He has taken a player out if the game and made space, instead of hitting that space he then just ambled forward. Never seems to want to bust a gut going backwards or forwards. I refuse to believe it’s just how he looks. I genuinely think he’s too casual in his play a lot of the time. Barkely has impressed me this pre-season with his strength and work rate. RLC needs to show more. It’s all very laid back and safe. Where’s the bursting run, carrying the ball forward, where’s there evidence of good passing skill and vision? Where’s the killer instinct to try and get a shot away. I want him to succeed here but he’s doing nothing to get me excited for him playing. Overshadowed by Ampadu and Hudson-Odoi this pre-season and considering his reputation that’s disappointing.
August 7, 20187 yr To be fair to RLC, he's only recently come back to training. I think it's a bit much to expect him to adapt immediately or be up to fitness as he has barely played a competitive match with this team.

August 7, 20187 yr Main observation: plastic chairs and heat don' t go well together. Apart from that: Ampadu doing great, Drinkwater gets moaned at a lot for losing the ball, RLC not very involved, Willian trying runs but not a lot of help, Tammy's trying but first touch is letting him down, Baka only passing sideways or backwards, Zappa and Emerson trying runs, Moses no end product. Lyon have threatened a few times, we've been lucky. And what"s with the spoken commercials in an American accent? fFS...

Sarri apparently doesn't rotate much and he may well think he is justified looking at the lack of depth that we have. It’s Lyons last as well and they’re playing their first team, so God knows what that says about them. Honestly, considering the team, I don’t think we’ve done that badly.

Abraham needs a loan Bakayoko is going to Milan apparently Is emerson better than alonso? Hmmm i am not so sure. Drinkwater done well. Willian and RLC i was expecting much more. Agree Zappacosta better than Moses, although that is not much of a high bar to get over Loan or not Abraham is a bang average striker in the making. Agree with other posters he is not good enough for our level. Will probably be great at Bristol City, or Swindon, Reading etc. Bakayoko - Milan. Thank god. The car is warmed up and i'll be round the back of the standto pick him up in about an hour. Is emerson better then alonso. Possibly the more pertinent question is whether emerson is better than Kenedy, who we let go. Drinkwater done well - Errm, not with you on that one. Looks pedestrian to me. Let's be honest with his apparent pedigree he should be running this midfield. Willian does what Willian does. Bit of a sprint, couple of step overs then kills all of the pace out of any attack. I would love us to trade him for a midfielder with genuine pace and a natural attacking attitude. (not sure that is Martial either) Both Ampadu and Christensen look really good for me. Probably the only highlight for me. The football started crisp and pacy and it looked exciting. But again no cutting edge and a gradual slowing up of play and movement. Final point. I'm gutted to say it but RLC is just missing a bit of DNA to make himself a real top player. Has got the touch, the flicks, the eye, but he has no gumption about the next phase. He should be tearing this game apart on his own. He leaves me so frustrated. I'm sure it won't happen for him here.

Hey, i agree we haven't done that bad and with a little bit of a cuttign edge, a bit more urgency, a little touch of class at teh right time and we'd be out of sight. That's obvious even though we haven't tested them at all yet.
August 7, 20187 yr I've got a feeling that when this clicks we are going to be very good but we are going to have take some serious pain until it does.

August 7, 20187 yr I think Ampadu and Luiz could be an interesting complementary pairing at centre back. Definitely hope Ampadu stays with us and doesn't go out on loan anywhere. He's plenty good enough for us now ...
