Jorginho is.... (well now was) a Blue

Featured Replies

He's become a bit of a scapegoat which isn't really fair, but then, when is life ever fair.  Lacks the physicality that we need from a midfielder in the PL for me, and doesn't offer enough going forward.  Of all our midfielders, I think he would top the list to move on and try and different direction.

I was talking about lamp 1st season. Honestly, Lamp is not stupid. It is so obvious that Kante is better when he has freedom to hunt however it was also so obvious that we had massive problem against transition and protecting our backline.

Jorginho was vital for Lampard in that first season of his, the duo of Kovacic-Jorginho was the go-to setup for the majority of that season.

The moment he abandoned that and started playing Kante as the deep DM that was the moment that cost him his job here.

Sarri relied on Jorginho when he came, Lampard and Tuchel too. They really weren't stupid for doing that.

I thought Lampard lost the Job after kante got injured

It was widely reported that Lampard's job became in serious jeopardy after the City hammering. Kante played all bar 45 league minutes up to and including that game.

Lampards downfall was ironically the attacking side of it. Look at the football played in the Everton game just before lockdown and then compare it to any game post the restart up until his sacking (even when the results were good), night and day.

If Lampard had stayed it was a certainty Jorginho was either out the door or a backup bench-warmer at best.

And we'd have also finished about 10th, at best.

Yeah but we might have won the league next season.

Let's be honest you don't really believe in that... Like if Lampard was correct to not rely on Jorginho he could have at the very least managed to keep his job but everything went south for him. Though in his first season he was relying on Jorginho-Kovacic duo and it went much better for him.

I love hypothetical scenarios Gol. They are the wide awake imaginary version of a dream. Let's roll with my version.

Under Lamps Jorginho and Rudiger are 'istory. Tomori stays and turns into our own, (but better), version of Van Dyke. Tammy is nurtured and polished and wins the Golden Boot with 43 goals. Pulisic continues the brilliant form he showed under Lampard's guidance and nudges out Messi to win the B'allon d'Or. And Lampard continues his total football philosophy whilst still bringing through our own exciting young players and in the process winning back to back EPL titles with his trademark fast paced attacking football, including two games against Tottenham in the 2021/22 season which we win 10-0 and 14-0 respectively.

And we don't re-sign Lukaku. Isn't that a beautiful thing?

Yes that's one thing, to imagine things... But I also find it interesting that in due time after Jorginho, Alonso and Rudiger were "'istory" for Lampard that he was also 'istory as our manager and then we all saw how all 3 of those players suddenly had an important role for us once again under Tuchel.

During his last perior Lampard didn't want to use those players against e.g. the best team Man City and we still lost, while Tuchel used them not so much afterwards and we won and not just once but multiple times so that doesn't point to a possible fluke either.

Maybe Lampard could have changed his view after the West Ham match but that's hindsight 20/20, to be fair he probably watched Rice and didn't notice that we won 3:nil that time...

Ohh he would have been certainly a goner. His performance under Lamp even make me think about bringing back Bakayoko.

Glad this has gone quiet. I think he is an important player and valuable to the squad. There are two or three brainfart moments by Jorginho during a season, but other than that he is a unique player in our squad and one of the few in world football that can dictate the tempo of a football game so effortlessly. Would love to see a midfield of Gallagher Jorginho Mount at some point, with Jorginho in the pivot spot, think they will complement eachother very well.

With that group of 3 in the middle we would ship 3 goals a game.  We'd probably score a lot too mind, but it wouldn't win us any trophies.

Jorgi can't dictate tempo. He is excellent when you want to slow things down (to some degree) but he can't speed and slow game down at will.

Sick midfield of:

Kovacic Gallagher

   Jorginho

In a 4-3-3 this reminds of Sarri’s tactic with the attack being boosted by Gallagher that is more potent in comparison to Kante.

Having two or three brainfart moments aren't what concerns me, my biggest concern is that he can't maintain good form for more than half a season.

Against big teams it's a non starter but I feel it could work against teams who come to Stamford Bridge and park the jumbo jet.

It was only used a few times but I seem to remember the Jorgi/Mount/Barkley trio worked well against those type of opponents.
