Technically speaking Van Dijk hit rock bottom in his last few months at Southampton. He was dropped against Chelsea because he made an absolute tit out of himself against Leicester days before.
December 9, 20196 yr Regarding Zaha, he's far from my first choice but I don't think he will be as bad as People think.
December 9, 20196 yr Zaha would be an upgrade to Pedro but I am quite keen on seeing Pulisic and CHO play as much as they can.

Willian and Pedro need replacing so we need to buy in that position. City have B.Silva, Mahrez, Sterling and Sane why cant we have the same competition for positions?.
December 9, 20196 yr I think we will end up signing zaha and ake in January. Both can play in europe, both are fairly attainable. Wouldnt be my choice in either position, but they would make us stronger.

We do need some experienced balance to them, especially if Tammy and Mount are playing aswell. A signing like Zaha would be further safeguarding the long term future of Odoi and Pulisic as just as the former starts to fizzle out the latter pair will be approaching prime age.

I don't think either of them would improve us all that much, not enough to give a serious boost to our top 4 chances or set us on our way to catching up with the very best teams. Between them, they will probably cost around £100m, that seems like a colossal waste of money.

A statue would improve our defense and someone who takes a shot once in a while would be an upgrade on Willian and Pedro.

There is no incentive to lower the price in Jan. Zaha is not worth anything near that amount, and there is a reason no foreign clubs go near overpriced PL players. Dortmund were interested in the summer but were put off by the price, ended up opting for both Brandt & Thorgan Hazard who both cost less than £80m and IMO better players individually.
December 10, 20196 yr Unless we see some much improved play from our front men I would suggest up to £70m Zaha would be a decent buy at season's end. I'm in the camp that CHO will likely go on loan. Willian may or may not stay. Pulisic good at times. Zaha is physically stronger player than all the above, EPL tested and can also play upfront should Tammy get injured.

Right now i think he is better than what we have in Pulisic, Willian, Pedro and Odoi. I can. Zaha is a big fish in a very small, very sh*t pond, and still looks piss-poor most if the time. All of those players are consistently better, even Pedro, who must be 83 years old by now.

Lukaku's gone to another big club in Italy though and he's banging them in. Zaha wants to leave and so hes unhappy, your not going to get the best out of a player who is unhappy. He didn't have his best game agreed but harsh to judge him on one single game in his career. No, I said "went on to be a great" Surely you can't be claiming Lukaku is one of the fiotbal world's greats?
December 10, 20196 yr We couldn’t negotiate with Palace for him anyway, they’re still in talks with Reece James to have him released from his pocket.

He scores more goals, dribbles better, more take ons and wins more penalties and does it playing for a defensive poor team.

What goals? 2 goals and 1 assist in 15 starts this season, and Crystal Palace have the 5th best defence in the league.

This season sure!, but he wants to leave. Unhappy players aren't going to play at there best. One of the big reasons they have stayed up in the last few seasons has been because of Zaha.

He is way overpriced for me & I still can’t shake the feeling that no club outside England wants him if he really is that good.

Spurs, Arsenal, Utd, Us, Everton, Dortmund, and Man City before they bought Mahrez. I just think the fee Palace want and then maybe because Zaha doesn't score enough goals puts teams off. Id like to see Zaha in a more attacking team with better players, i think he will go up another level. Just to add last season he got 10 goals and 11 assists despite every team in the league targeting him in a poor side. Edited December 11, 20196 yr by jack_super_class
December 11, 20196 yr A good player but doesn’t rack up anywhere near enough goals or assists, granted he’s in a poor and very defensive side but we really should be looking at someone who has a better goal and assist record than we already have in the squad.
December 11, 20196 yr The problem is, Zaha won't get the space to perform as he does at Palace. Teams will set up differently against us, so if Zaha doesn't have the space, he may well be a waste. I would personally go for Timo Werner if we are looking at a forward. Not sure how much he would cost from RB Leipzig, but his goal and assist stats are really good. https://www.google.com/search?q=timo+werner+stats&rlz=1C1CHBF_en-GBGB818GB818&oq=timo+&aqs=chrome.0.69i59l2j69i57j0l4j69i61.1869j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 Above link is the google search for his stats. The past four seasons he has been consistently effective.
December 11, 20196 yr Goals/assists 19/20 Werner 1.32 Sancho 0.84 Zaha 0.25 Would Man City buy Zaha? Or Liverpool? We can do better.

Are there better plays than Zaha and Ake in their respective positions? Absolute, they are not even among the best in the league never mind Europe. It is very difficult to get quality, real quality, in the January market now. Sure you can point to VVD, but he forced his move from the Saints so unless someone like that does the same for us the best players will most likely be out of reach. You hope to get the Cahill's and Anelka's of this world. Sometimes they work out really good. So it then becomes a case of either not buying, or buying someone who is a slight upgrade on what we have. If those players are the difference between 4th and 5th, it proves worth while. I think what is important is price in relation to talent and resale ability. For example Ake. Is he as good as VVD? Not by a long shot. Is he better than Christensen and Zouma? IMO yes a slight upgrade. Is he affordable? 40mill buy back (if true) yes he is. Could we sell him for similar or more? Given his age and being a Dutch international I believe we could. His signing is a win, win in all regards for a January signing. Whereas Zaha. Is he as good as Hazard? Nowhere close. Is he better than Pedro and CHO? I would say yes, a slight upgrade again. Is he affordable? That depend on Palace. At 80mill no that is way too much. At a lower price or in exchange for say Batman then we could make it worth while. Could we sell him on for more? Unlikely, depends on the price. If we swapped him for Batman and Moses it would be good business imo. His desirability depends solely on what Palace want for him. Now don't get me wrong we find a VVD, a Ashley Cole, A Hazard and a Drogba types we can get in Jan go in at any price. That seems highly unlikely though so if we want to strengthen we may have to make do with the best of the rest.

Palace arent even looking in trouble this season. Not keen on him at all, but i think it will be done regardless. Id rather keep the money and wait until summer, champions league football, isnt the deciding factor it once was, so i dont see it hindering us in the summer, if we are willing to put enough money the table, for our main targets. Signing players that will improve us slighty, because they are easier to bring in, isnt the right way to go imo. If we are buying into lampard and his long term vision, then we shouldnt be rushing into signing players that arent exactly what we want.
