We've got a new Kepa

12-13 more than he did. Well expected at least. That isn't a 100% watertight stat but gives you an idea how many goals less should we have conceded.

Be interesting if there was a video made up of the 12/13 he was expected to save on the XG stats ...

We need to address the keeper this season though; if Oblak is out of question I do think we invest in someone younger who will be our established number 1 for years (Onana, Donna).

Wouldn't mind spending on Donnarumma, but it seems like it could end up being a 1 club man. He made his debut at like 16 years old and hasn't shown interest in moving anywhere like many other Italian players. Could be another Buffon and stay at Milan for the longest time.

Which brings us to Onana... A decent goalkeeper but personally not who I would want to sign, but given the scarcity in the window for keepers in general we may not have any choice.

That's not how that stat works.

I can give you a couple recently;

Zaha strike against us from Palace. I would expect that to be saved over 50% of the time by a good premier league keeper.
Keita strike against us from Liverpool. I would expect that to be save over 50%
TAA free kick. I would expect that to be saved 70-80% of the time.

We've conceded so many goals from corners, he plays a part in every goal we concede from a corner because he is the reason why teams feel comfortable swinging a ball into our 6 yard box regularly.

He makes the saveable look unsaveable.

Not that I don’t think Kepa is brilliant, I just don’t understand how he has suddenly become SO poor in one season? Under Sarri, he was decent and came up with some crucial saves.

Confidence definitely plays a part... Also doesn't help that the defence in front of him is sh*t as it is, but he really doesn't help himself.

Yes, cheers, you're right ... I did some googling after I made that post ...

Our 3-5 defeat to Liverpool was quite interesting ... apparently we won that game on XG ... 2.38 to 1.45 .. so "2-1 away win" 🙂

The stars are the goals ... the larger the star the more clear cut the chance ... the circles are other attempts that didn't go in ... the larger the circle the better the chance.

The mental side of thing definitely got to him, couldn't say exactly when but he's no where near the shots in the past few games, and didn't want come out to catch the ball ( for a few games this season he actually tried and had some success). Since he's on such a long contract, smart thing is to take a short term lose by loaning him out to a Spanish team, and hopefully he recovers, and we get our money back ( or a large chunk of it) 1-2 seasons later. Spain isn't full of good GKs right now, wouldn't be surprised if he recovers and be their number 1 next year.

Probably something simple like being dumped by his bird, and feeling homesick ... although to be fair, he was well down the list of keeper metrics even last year as well, albeit he was saving two out of every three shots he faced.

My theory is that teams scouted that he can't handle crosses. We then faced more crosses into the 6 yard box.

His confidence became shot from this. He realised that 3 or 4 times a game he would be literally bullied by the opposition.

Add in that teams must have realised that he can't jump we must have faced more shots outside the box.

I haven't seen any stats on this, just a hunch. Prior to Kepa we had Courtois who couldn't save shots at close range.

I'd like to see us pressure United to make a long term decision on De Gea  by putting in a decent bid for Henderson. He wants to be first choice at Utd and has proven he merits it. We wouldn't need to pay the f**ked up release clause for Oblak (who is undoubtedly quality) and he helps with the home grown quota.

He's just won Player of the Season so I can't see them selling him.

(I have got the right Henderson, haven't I?)

Chelsea will listen to offers of £50m for under-fire goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga this summer, having accepted that a loss on their £72m investment is inevitable.

The 25-year-old endured a nightmare campaign which saw him make numerous costly errors. He finished the season with the lowest save percentage of any goalkeeper in the Premier League and was dropped for Chelsea's final-day clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Probably Get Some Hate, But I Do Feel A Bit Sorry For Him Because He Was Brought In For Massive Money, He Knows He Was Never Worth That Much, But With That Said, He Has Been sh*t Most Of The Time, He May Do Well Elsewhere Where He's Not Having As Much Pressure As He Is Here, I'll Wish Him Luck Wherever He Goes, But I Just Hope We Bring Someone In Who Can Command A Box And The Defenders

If they get £50M for him that would be the greatest escape act from a poor purchase ever. In fact the way teams do they financial accounting he would come out at about a net wash in terms of cost.

now back to reality, nobody will pay that.

There has been some talk of us possibly getting Oblak for Kepa + money. There is a possibility that Kepa can regain some confidence and form under the tutelage of Simeone. The way he sets up his defence and motivates his players, Kepa could do pretty well at Atletico.

I saw that as well but Im sure i read somewhere that Athletico said that they aren't interested in Kepa.

Funnily enough though, I think Athletico is somewhere where Kepa would actually play quite well cause they have a good defensive setup

No hate for feeling sorry for him. Capitalising every word you type on the other hand....😆

The Dedication And Work Rate To Keep To It Is Something A Few Of Our Players Could Do With.

It doesn't make sense that Kepa was one of the most sought after keepers back in 2017 when he was close to a move to Real Madrid, but now people are saying he's poor. No doubt he hasn't be great for us, but we don't know the real reasons behind this. Could be due to personal issues, lost confidence, homesick etc. I am wondering whether the board are willing to lose money on him because, even though we bought him for £71m, we sold Courtois for £35m so maybe they aren't overly fussed about the loss of money.

Was he though. Did he really contribute. Pretty similar throughout for me, tbh.

I think it may be a mixture of all of these. Two CB's that have poor quality on the ball and don't like defending in the box, possibly due to this cr@p zonal marking. One full back on the left who is okay going forward but absolutely no pace in recovery and not particularly good at LB instead of LWB. A right back who is a great servant but has started to show signs of Ivan in decline and an over hyped goalkeeper that is nowhere near as comfortable on the ball as the hype suggested, weak on crosses, lives in his six yard box and is not commanding, thus undermining confidence in a fragile back four.
