From what I remember of Areola he isn't the best at commanding his area either. Liverpool specifically targeted him for it by making a couple of players practically step on his toes.

July 27, 20205 yr The signing of Kepa just highlights the madness that is football in the modern day. I know it's not Kepa's fault but I shudder when I am reminded that he cost us £71.6M. I know football is far detached from the real world but to the normal man in the street, £1M is a great deal of money - life-changing. We all dream of a lottery win - what we could buy with £1M, £2M, £5M etc..........Buys nothing in football these days but there are still bargains to be had at £20M upwards. But somehow, we managed to spunk £71.6M on a keeper who is not fit for purpose. We have had some dreadful transfer dealings over the years but this one will take some beating.

July 27, 20205 yr - For 14/47 goals conceded this season, he didn’t move (30%). That is the root cause of the problem, he doesn't react to some shots for some reason. If he was on the end of Mason's FK he would've most likely just stood there and watched it go in whilst most keepers make a full stretched dive even if it's futile. I don't know why he does this.

July 27, 20205 yr Chelsea will listen to offers over £50m for under-fire Kepa Arrizabalaga and will consider long term loan move away with Frank Lampard ready to push club to sign new goalkeeper. (Mail) #CFC

I can see either a sale of around that 25mill mark to a mid table Spanish team who can only pay him about 40k a week. Or a loan with loan fees with similar wages. Either way we will be paying the rest of Kepas wages for the remainder of his contract.
July 27, 20205 yr I'd like to see us pressure United to make a long term decision on De Gea by putting in a decent bid for Henderson. He wants to be first choice at Utd and has proven he merits it. We wouldn't need to pay the f**ked up release clause for Oblak (who is undoubtedly quality) and he helps with the home grown quota.

Home grown quota not much of an issue now when we have so many young english players coming through. If we can get anything above 30m for Kepa we've done very well. May not have the budget to spend on Oblak until next year though

July 28, 20205 yr I must say I don't recall him committing many absolute howlers, as we've grown accustomed to seeing from some of the other supposed top keepers in the league this season (De Dea, Pickford, Kasper, etc.). I wonder for all the stats about his poor save percentage and high number of goals conceded, how many of those he should genuinely have been expected to stop.
July 28, 20205 yr 12-13 more than he did. Well expected at least. That isn't a 100% watertight stat but gives you an idea how many goals less should we have conceded.

The madness is, since I first stepped into the bridge for the first time in the early 80's, he is simply the worse No1 keeper we have had. You can go through them, Peter Bonnetti, Peter Borota, Steve Francis, Eddie Ned, Dave Beasant, Kevin Hitchcock, Kharine, Edd De Geoy, Carlo Cudicini, Cech, Courtois and then there's.......Kepa, he is simply f**kin hopeless!
July 28, 20205 yr Right now, I'd be happier with Ross Turnbull in goal ... or even Deco LOL ... at least he'd be guaranteed to dive 🙂
