I was Sarri out before it became fashionable.

So was I and there has never been any point at which I have felt even remotely close to changing my mind. The fact that he keeps picking Jorginho week after week just reinforces my view.

OUT.

That actually made me laugh out loud:laugh2:. You’re pretty spot on to be fair. The false 9 is just horrendous. It nullifies Hazards main assets and makes it extremely frustrating.

He just said in his post match press conference that he feels that the false 9 was the right decision. See if he came out and just said ‘yes I got it wrong with the false 9, we played better when I brought the striker on’ it would be a lot less frustrating than just saying that he was right when it’s clear as day that it wasn’t.

I would have played that team and lots agreed at the time. Hazard doesn't track back and CHO (who was awful today and contributed to it not working by not moving or running in behind) isn't disciplined enough, we'd be too open. So play him in false 9 (which we've done successfully before).

I'll be very disappointed if Sarri goes. I think we have absolutely zero chance of winning a trophy in the next 2 years if he gets sacked.

Hazard is totally ineffective as a false 9, as soon as he moved back left, he came to life. How many times have we executed it successfully compared to how many times we’ve been beaten? I’m pretty confident it’s a strong swing to the negative outcomes.

Out of curiosity what about Sarri makes you think that he increases our likelihood of winning a trophy? Seen as he’s not got any track record of winning them?

I think he increases it from zero. Which is what we would get if we replaced him with....who? I think this obsession people have with him not winning a trophy as Napoli manager is weird. We were a pen shoot out away from winning the league cup and we will be in the semis of the Europa League. Under Napoli he made them the second best team in Italy - unfortunately you don't win trophies if you are the second best.

We play hazard in false 9 when we are playing a team who are better than us as hazard doesn't defend. We played it against city and beat them earlier this year. Pep said that was one of the reasons why. Obviously it doesn't always work, but when you are playing a team that is better than you it's odd to expect a victory.

I have a question. Who would you replace Sarri with?

if we have Sarri next season, without Hazard and no opportunity to strengthen in the transfer market, my guess is that we will finish mid-table. Can't see us challenging to be honest. City, Liverpool, United, Spurs and Arsenal are likely to improve. Everton too arguably. My guess is that it's going to be ugly for a while.

Totally agree with you. Am not Sarri's biggest fan but no one gives a name who they would replace Sarri with!?

I’ve been Sarri out since probably about January and still am. Changing my mind based on a few games would be “fickle”.

Changing opinions based on new information is actually the opposite of fickle and what everyone should be doing.

True. What new information came to light recently that helps those in the  "Sarri in" camp? I'm genuinely curious.

Take Hazard out of this team and i can see it to be honest.

thank you, that was my main point.  maybe something special will happen that I can't foresee but on the evidence of this season, Sarri leading this group of players (with Hazard) isn't that inspiring. without Hazard I fear for us - can't see where the goals are going to come from

I said this in the match thread but you could tell pretty early that Giroud was needed. We managed to get in at half time 0-0 and that was the time for the change. CHO is good at crossing and had no targets, Hazard is best on the left which he showed in the second half. Higuain came on and was awful again, Giroud is the in form striker, I don't rate him generally but atm he is our best bet. Keeping Willian on was pointless.

He got it wrong again today.

Great that he started CHO & RLC but then cancels that out by playing Hazard as false 9. It just looked like we were playing for a 0-0 and maybe try and nick a goal. That was never gonna happen. We should have started with Giroud with Hazard in his favoured position, where he has been ripping it up and then thrown CHO on for Willian in the second half, with his pace going at tired legs.

Unfortunately with Sarri, it is one step forward, three steps back.

I haven't doubled checked this yet but apparantly we've taken 4 points from our away games against the top 12 teams this season. Four points!

Against top six we've lost every single away game.

I don't really see the point of continuing this experiment.
Not only are we not delivering performances or results but he's clearly clueless in the market as well. His two main men have both been extremely underwhelming for months now. Whats to say the third and fourth wouldn't be the same if he was to stay here for the future?

Sounds like late wenger's arsenal

That stat is sadly correct. we won at Watford, drew at West Ham, and lost against all the others. We still have to play United and Leicester. If we don't improve on that record we will not finish top 4.

Holland, Howe, Nuno Espirito Santo if non of the three are available, I will settle for Lampard

You’re exactly right, you don’t win trophies for being second best so it’s completely irrelevant that he made them the second best to your point that he makes us more likely to win a trophy? He has nothing on his CV to point that he increases that likelihood - that’s why I’ve asked the question.

One example of an even where it worked doesn’t mean it’s a success the majority of the time, we heavily rely on Hazard and his attacking quality, his defensive lackness is definitely outwayed by how much he offers us off the left hand side. He doesn’t offer half as much centrally.

It will depend on who is available, the bigger priority should be a DOF before we hire a new manager in my opinion but preferably someone who doesn’t play our best creative/attacking player out of position.

You know we beat man city when hazard played in that position right?

We aren't challenging anyway. With no opportunity to strengthen in the transfer market, our rivals will be miles ahead of us. People think we can challenge every season, but the truth is we have a squad full of sub-par players, as well as over £100m worth of players on loan. The board have wasted so much money and not strengthened in any area for two, maybe three seasons now. We literally have zero game changers in our squad barring Hazard. Pedro may pop up with goals occasionally, but there's nobody else. Our bench is thin and our first team is bang average without Hazard.
