Me too, and I still stand by it because I thought he lacked genuine insight and humility to make changes - "the players are the problem, not my methods" mindset. He comes across as having a brilliant understanding of the game but just can't quite fathom why other people don't automatically see things the same way he does. For this reason, I've always doubted Lampard's ability to arrest a slide or turn things around in a slumped dressing-room. In his playing career, Lampard could be relied on to turn the fortunes of a club in a single moment, but on his own drive and initiative. It must be incredibly frustrating for someone like that to have to try and coach others to do something that came so naturally to him.

I hope that this stint with Coventry is the first step to changing this. Coventry are a very good side, perennial promotion contenders, and it seems that Lampard have taken them to level beyond even that by putting them in the same bracket as more established contenders like Leeds.

Very much like Glenn Hoddle in that players just arent able to do the things he finds "normal" and he couldnt understand why not. Apparently he was a nightmare in training early in his career as he would ask a player to knock a cross field pass 50 yards, then when they couldnt would just meander up and smack one right to the exact place he wanted. Very disheartening to players of lesser ability. But he learnt how to circumnavigate that, and theres nothing to say Lampard cant as well, hes still young as a manager (in age and experience).

Even if he has a career in the championship that doesnt make him a "sh*t manager" as some seem desperate to paint him (not you)

Not to forget that he had (and might still have, I don't know) an issue with managing individuals. Rudiger was a very strong personality, a leader on the field and in the dressing room. Lampard's response was to freeze him out. Ditto Alonso.

Yeah, that's exactly what I mean. I do think Hoddle, being as naturally gifted as he was, genuinely didn't know. Lampard doesn't recognise his own giftedness and tends to have bought into the notion that he was a product solely of hard work.

Bad night at the office for Lamps. Coventry currently 3-0 down to Sheff Utd.

Lampard said afterwards that it boiled down to making the most of chances. Coventry were never in it. But that's Coventry. Winning streaks, losing streaks, and you never know which is next. Same under Mark Robins. They would have come good again under him. Happened every season since forever. SU are a very good Championship side but will suffer if they get promoted. Ditto Leeds and, in particular, Burnley.

Lamps Coventry currently 6-0 up against QP Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha...................................!!

Was a cracking game as well, hope he can get them promoted this year. Terrific weekend for Coventry, buying their stadium and getting their biggest ever home win at it within a matter of days, their supporters must be delighted!

Another good win for Lamps Coventry last night - 4-0 over Millwall. Unbeaten and up to 2nd in the table.

Wasn't the right fit for us - it was a sentimental appointment, but so glad he's doing well and there's an argument to be had that he's a whole lot better coach than Maresca.

Lamps followed Sarri and without Hazard so was always going to be a difficult season and it felt hard watching it as we came in 4th, lost to Arsenal in the FA final and went out in the knock-out stage to Bayern Munich. TT came in half way through the next season and brought back some success though I did not like the football style,

No argument whatsoever, a fact, yes, not an argument.

The problem with Lampard was that he was coaching too high too soon. From Derby to Chelsea to Everton, back to Chelsea, now at Coventry. He may be only good enough for the Championship, which is nothing to be ashamed of, but this is really where he should have stayed for 5 years before trying the Premier League.

Quite funny that this passage perfectly describes our current manager.

That is not the problem. He had 10 attackers and he tried to fit all of them and he tried to phase out jorgi and Azpi.

Jorgi should have been phased out the day after he was signed and we had Reece James, of course Azpi was going to play less in a back 4.

I see no issue with either of these things.

"That's the truth" - Frank Lampard gives damning verdict...

Former Chelsea player and then manager Frank Lampard has delivered a damning verdict on the club operations in some latest quotes.

On his second stint as manager... "I saw things there that I know can’t be right."

Dare I say those things may not have been addressed internally?

Would be nice if he could shed a bit more light on that. We all know he's right - our club is not being run right, but I wonder what he is getting at specifically.

Think theyre more about observations from his time in charge tbh.

My short list would be no team cohesion given the changes that are made game in and out. no settled defence, signing young players for astronomical money that are not really better than our own Cobham grads. Stubborn manager who is going to die on his possession-based football hill regardless of the talent at his disposal.

I also think the flipping players model isnt great as no one is really going to establish themselves, if they do, the money men will sell. You need a settled side to challenge for things.

I always remember Sir frank saying that in his second stint, player fitness was an issue and he had to train players to shoot. eg, we're really not scoring many goals from the wings or midfield and even strikers are having a hard time shooting in Maresca's system. Everyone just looks like theyre playing within themselves.

I just wonder how Sir Frank would get on with this crop of players tbh. Proven to be able to work with them having promoted a number who have all been sold off bar Reece James who will probably be off at some point, could see Bayern/ Barca or Madrid clubs wanting him.

An inexperienced manager making inexperienced decisions at a top club isn't the problem?

Watched the game last night to see Lamps Coventry go back to top of The Championship after some iffy form of late.

Have to say, thought Boro played the better football, but would love to see Lamps get success and take Coventry up. Trouble is, can only foresee them struggling just as Burnley have dome this season. I'm sure Lamps wants to get Coventry up in the PL, but he must also be thinking it won't do himself any favours if they get battered most weeks. Unless he gets them up and then jumps ship as others have done in the past.

Poor guy is really starting to thin on top too - that's the stresses of football management for you!
