All are big league rivals are waiting for our Golden Boy to fail.. much like the start of his playing career.. but i think Frank will take this team to the next level. Exciting times back on the bridge.. lets support them big.

Fully backed in the transfer market now he has to deliver on the pitch pretty much got all his targets no excuses silverware and top 3 pushing the top two cutting the gap in half. Media will be looking for blood with all the signings

The media? You  !

To be fair, he had a fantastic season last season so with the signings, let’s hope we can kick on.

One thing I want to see is a more settle back line. No more chopping and changing.

Anyone want to take a guess what the starting line up will be?

Lot's of pressure on Frank for sure. I don't think a silverware is a must, at least not this season but defensive performances like last year - hell no. That many Ls in the standings? - hell no. Looking this bad in CL - hell no.

I think a season like the first of Jose's second period will keep him here - 3rd place, in the battle till the final month, deep run in Champions League, deep run or potentially finals/trophies in FA/Carling should be enough.

agreed on all of the above.. time to perform!

Only two teams in player can stop us winning a cup this season and both will not make it to the finals in both league and FA Cup so if we don't win sliverware I will be disappointed with the team we have now

Why would you be disappointed about not winning FA or Carling? We shouldn't measure our season by that, we are not Tottenham or Arsenal. We should be entirely focused on PL and CL and since we are young team for the future and there are bigger fish right now beyond our capabilities competing will be enough. But it's not like we havent won anything significant for 20 years like these bastards from North London.

Agreed. I know this pisses on tradition a bit but I personally value a deep CL run or a title race over the domestic cups or Europa. We made our name in Europe even before winning it because we kept making the latter stages and competing with the very best time after time.

In the CL especially the memories you make as a club can be incredible and we made many even before we eventually won it, for example, we didn't win the CL in 2005 but would i have traded the memories made downing Barca and Bayern at The Bridge in exchange for sleepwalking to a Uefa Cup win instead? Not in a million years!

Winning trophies breaths a winning mentality...why do you think Pep, Klopp and Prime Jose always wanted to win silverware it's the mentality. No deep CL run or PL title fight without the title at the end beats winning silverware.

Tell that to Arse that won 2 silverwares but still can't even smell top 4... Look at the big picture, we are building a team for the future, a new dynasty that will be fighting for the CL trophy in a matter of 3 years time.

Would you honestly trade the memories we made in CL between 04-09 for a Europa in one year but kicked out of CL last 16 all the others?

Yes trophies are important, but not at all costs!

Ole can splash 200 million, play like sh*te all season, win nothing and still get protected. So I don't give a sh*t what treatment Lampard gets, I've not really seen Lamps get scrutinised by the media tbh, they usually give him a lot of praise.

Let's be fair here, the club has done the right thing, they've spent the money and are looking to close the cap between City and Liverpool. I like that! I would trade our position for Arsenal's even though they've won an F.A. Cup and Community Shield, in the long term they're not going to be challenging for the title and that's the most they'll be getting.

I can't see us challenging for the title, too many new players, too many raw players, but that's good, it takes time. Eventually they'll jel together and we'll have a rock solid team, with or without Lampard, someone can come in and make a good go of it regardless.

I'm just glad we're being ambitious in the market.

No reason why we shouldn't go for a good run in the FA Cup this year, our squad depth is now good and more than capable of being involved on all fronts. It is correct that winning silverware breeds a mentality to want more, without any and being perennial bridesmaids Frank would get the reputation of being more Poch than Jose.

As for the cup itself you can more or less tell a fans age by how they regard the FA Cup.

Let’s not forget that it is only third season for Lampard as manager. I think it’d be daft to expect him to win us the trophy already, that’s to the media not members here.

No doubt they will be screaming for him to be sacked if we don’t challenge for the title, shows how much they rate him as manager.

It strikes me as odd that people don't see this mentality of what actually winning a trophy means. Without Jose coming in and winning that first league cup and having that mentality I don't know if we would have been the club we are today his mentality of every cup is important showed the players how important getting a silverware is. Challenging for the title is great but if that's all you do without winning it I rather rack up FA CUPS League cups CL cups and Europa league cups than just "challenge for the title" o just have a decent run in th CL. I want to win the league and on the road to doing so winning cups is important for your mentality.

So, to clarify, circa 04-09 you would have given up those memories of beating Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern Munich etc and accepted group stage/final 16 elimination in all those season's for one Europa League where we beat 7th place standard teams all the way through?

If winning cups are the be all and end all in the grand scheme of things why aren't Arsenal back challenging for titles now? It's been six years since they started winning cups again and it's not helped them a jot in the league or CL, If anything it's done the opposite. Why haven't Sevilla built on their Europa dominance and translated that to challenges in La Liga or the CL?

Are you serious?

Jose showed the whole club that winning should be the ultimate goal and without him who knows...?

Such an insulting comment, Jose was sacked for not delivering it was always the club that had ambitions regardless of what Jose's ambitions were.
We won the Champions League with Di Matteo, a proper Chels figure that knows what the club is all about.

Look at Jose now, all happy to get a top 6, he went from mocking us for winning the Europa League ( "only small clubs are happy to win that") to be over the moon when he won it with Man United.

We knew what we wanted and we had the mentality before Jose came, full stop.

The "winning mentality" we got under Jose was definitely a positive and helped build a strong mentality the first time he was here but I think you're over-emphasising its importance a bit, it wasn't the most important thing that led to that period of success and there certainly isn't just one fool-proof way of building this squad up to fulfilling the potential it has. We're in a totaly different situation now compared to 16 years ago, not putting too much pressure on a young squad and inexperienced manager and being reasonable with expectations could be even more important in the long run than getting that first trophy under our belts is.

And who is more likely to challenge for the title in the next few years, Chelsea or Arsenal?
