Of course it's bloody true, he chased him round the pitch to get the foul in. I'm wrong in saying i have no sympathy for him as he was very upset and never meant to do that, but it was a daft and unnecessary foul he made in revenge for what he thought was a smack in his face.

Okay fair enough, I'll take your word for it, but I couldn't help feeling terribly sorry for him. Considering he's Spurs, that's saying something.

There's something to be said for the fa to start looking at these "tactical fouls" now, they are becoming a real problem for the game. I suppose it was only a matter of time before someone got badly injured by one. Man City and Tottenham are bad for it, it's basically worthy of more than a yellow but less than a red.

We absolutely have to f**king get rid of VAR. It's sh*t.

I knew it would be sh*t but I never imagined it would be this sh*t.

If you were trying to troll the whole football community you still couldn't make it as sh*t as this.

This is beyond parody.

It wasn't actually Sons tackle that directly caused the injury. The momentum forced Gomes into Auriers foot which snapped his ankle.

It’s the inconsistency which is a major issue. The Alli handball decision was correct as it was not clear and obvious. Yet, yesterday that same clear and obvious was not applied to us. I can quite see why the tinfoil hat brigade think the FA have it in for us and I might have to pop down to Tesco to buy some Bacofoil for myself at this rate!

when did having your arm above your head become a part of defending? No that should have been a pen, like Will Hughes challenge on Emerson at the edge of the Watford penalty area. The shit is selective & we know it has been since that one ref said so in the battle at Stamford Bridge.

If you jump with your hand above your head then there’s a chance the ball will hit it.

I honestly can’t understand how a ref can watch these things multiple times in the VAR room and still get these decisions wrong.

These aren’t even subjective IMO.

It can work, but they have to use it properly. Have an extra pair of eyes in a studio and if they can immediately spot an obvious error then by all means flag it up for review (for example that RVP goal at Stamford Bridge or Walter Samuels should have been straight red and a pen vs us).

What is making a mockery is giving their own perceptions on tight calls (which leads to correct decisions being overturned) or calling goals back after celebrations for a marginal offside well before that, i know some will say offside is offside but i never really use to get worked up about a player's bulge being off, offside was created to prevent goalhanging and they're taking it far too literally. I genuinely wouldn't have been outraged had a Promes vs Chelsea or Azpi vs Liverpool esque goal against us stood (pre VAR), infact i likely wouldn't have even noticed the offside.

They should flag obvious errors and leave narrow calls alone, if the ref f**ks up a 50/50 call or fails to spot a toenail offside then sh*t happens.

Apparently it was Aurier's challenge, and that doesn't surprise me, that guy is a f**king dirty bastard.

He's a dirty sh*t, but even he didn't mean that. His involvement was all down to momentum.

Son's challenge just tripped him up, it was Aurier's tackle that crashed into his ankle, Son should have his red card rescinded and if there's a red card to be given out it should be to Aurier

Nobody should be getting a red card. Isn't VAR supposed to have a look at red cards? What's happened here? Atkinson has put the yellow back in his pocket and changed it to red, either on the advice of VAR, or with VAR's approval. I mean nobody on the planet would consider that a red card for Son, yet VAR has. You couldn't make it up.

RE VAR: I think it is encouraging strikers that get the slightest touch to go down dramatically in the hope of a getting a penalty and if not from the ref then from VAR.

Something has to be done for the sake of the game.

Unless you're Hudson-Odoi, in which case you get a yellow, even when there's an arm pushing you from behind.

It is certainly inconsistent and I think Everton should have got a penalty against Alli's raised hand from the corner, the MOTD pundits said the ref must thought it was for protection............. yet this is a contact sport and his hand was raised in an unnatural position and makes contact, it's a penalty all day and they blew it!

Just because Son made a drama out of it afterwards with the 'tears' and head in hands stuff, doesn't mean he wasn't culpable too. Aurier's challenge was equally as dirty, throw the book at both of them.

If you are going to give red cards for Sons challenge then you won’t have any players left at the end of a game. His tackle was the sort you see many times in every game and was in no way ‘dirty’. The consequence of that challenge was a one in a thousand chance and was never a red.

As it happens I think Son should have been booked for simulation for the penalty incident like CHO was and he wasn't yet agree that challenge was a yellow, no more. The ref over-reacted and I think he can be forgiven that given the serious nature of the injury to Gomes.

Pish-posh.

It was a desperate and reckless lunge which endangered the safety of Gomes. He was right to be sent off. Son has previous with this sort of tackle too- remember the match against Bournemouth?

Sky Sports break a story about Real Madrid apparently wanting to sign Sterling.

You know they are going to run with this story all week.

Coincidence that this story broke this week in the run up to Man City’s match with Liverpool??
