Chelsea v Grimsby (LC) Wed 25th Sep 19:45 GMT

Featured Replies

I was actually expecting a boring early-rounds League Cup game, but what I witnessed tonight was kind of magical. I'm feeling all warm and fuzzy inside.

Up the Chels!

be nice to see the benefits of having a bunch of talented players come through who are already well adjusted to playing with each other...think that's an under rated aspect of bring in players via the academy as opposed to the market

The future is Blue, the future is Chelsea.

Ok only Grimsby yet positive signs shown tonight.

SFL picked a decent team and showed good game management.

For me (missed most of the first re streaming issues) yet Barkley was MOTM.

Gilmour looked good though tired at times in the 2nd.

Liked the look of James think he will play more this season.

Pulisic not really clicking though looks intelligent and think he got an assist.

CHO needs to bury more chance looks predictable in front of goal.

Bats was better than I have seen him for a while.

The young defenders look good prospects too.

3 PL sides out of the cup tonight to lower league sides. Plus Spurs yesterday. 2 more PL sides have penalties looming any minute now.

I love this competition.

Well that was fun. The youngsters look so good. Gilmour, CHO, James. What players. The two subs looked excellent. Good times.

Add Mount, Tammy, Tomori and RLC to that and imagine what we'll be like in two/three years

Don’t want to get carried away but after all the youngsters who passed us by without getting into the first team maybe we’ve been lucky and got a half dozen at the same time. We won’t know for a while but it looks quite good and I think they’re all contracted for 5 years.

Gilmour controlled everything

Bats scoring against lowly opposition, standard. He’ll be back on the bench this weekend.

Pulisic looked creaky and out of practice.

James looks like an absolute baller

Further to the above, Gilmour looks like a good little player. A little lightweight but that'll improve with age and experience. Outshining Ross atm. Outside of that first goal, some of Ross' decision making has been poor on the ball.

Lots of great performances by our lads tonight, but none of them better than Ross IMO. And he did it across all areas of the pitch.

Fantastic application, and the hunger from these young players is great to see.

Zouma, Pedro, Barkley, Alonso, Batshuayi, all put in professional performances.

James, bit of ring rust, but 2 assist and a cracking goal.

Guehi grew into the game, excellent passing range.

Gilmour ran the game, didnt put a foot wrong for the 1st 70 mins. Plays like a cultured continental midfielder.

Pulisic tried too hard at times, still finding his feet.

CHO like reece showed some rustiness, but grew with confidence, and although the minutes were more important than his perfomance, its nice he got his goal in the end.

maatsen looked lively, great pace and overlaps.

Anjorin pressed well, showed some nice glimpses.

Great night for the academy.

You happy now?

James looks really good at points think he will claim the rb spot and glad of it, wasn’t as polished as I was expecting tho remember with about ten minutes to go he got set free and ball got stuck under his feet then he controlled it and gave ball away with his pass few instances of that too, also his first assist was actually deflected to bats off the defender so not sure he will get that. But yeah he played well 7.5/10

Odoi imo really was poor though - missed three one v one’s one in first half two in second, misplaced quite a lot of passes and also did that annoying thing Willian does of seeming to just stop on the ball and slow down the attack. On the other hand his goal was good after about 5/6 attempts and he put a couple of decent balls in but this is Grimsby I honestly think mount has a hat trick if he got them chances. I don’t really rate Hudson over any of the wingers bar maybe  and it is a maybe, Pedro. Thought his celebration was pretty ridiculous too.

Gilmour was amazing, gave ball away abit when he tired but was really very good.

anjorin and maatsen both good too and Guehi to be fair think he deserves a shout. It is really exciting with the youth.

Interesting just. I thought he played well but it was a bit of a flat track bully performance. Same with Batshuayi.

Always makes me wonder why it is Ross/Michy don't show that effort to get on the ball against better opposition. I find that immensely frustrating.

Barkley didn’t take the pen Davey my man ?! (I’m only jesting not looking for another debate?).

delighted with the game tonight, really enjoyed watching the young guns, not sure there was any of them at all that looked out of place. I appreciate it was only Grimsby but it was still really enjoyable to watch. Hoping for a decent home draw in the next round to see more of these lads!

Really enjoyable watch. Feels even better with all the academy players.

We’ve got a good core of players coming through. Gilmour MOTM for me but a lot of good performances.

Have to keep the faith with the project, with a couple of tweaks in the transfer market we could be competitive for a few years.
